Post Your DVD Display Area Thingies...

...or whatever you call them. :P

I'm basically thinking about getting a better storage shelf set-up for the DVD mess because the thing I've got now I've had for so long it's starting to lean from the weight. :D:D:D

But rather than just ask people's opinions and suggestions [ because that would be a short boring thread ] , maybe people posting pics of their set ups along with any suggestions will help with ideas too.

And discuss!...

I was responding to almost the entire thread with that comment. :D Only one user with an actual area set-up for their media mess. :(

My dad and I built that shit. It was a BITCH. It was top heavy, and we wound up putting wheels on it. What you DON'T see is the steel reinforcement bars we have underneath the shelves to keep them from bowing under the weight.

I was wondering about that since it looks like the shelves are open from one end to the other without any reinforcing breaks which on a long shelf would definitely bow. I was also wondering if you had to mount it to the wall to keep it steady.

If I could have bookcases like that, this place would be wall-to-wall. :D:D:D

My dad wanted to mount it to the wall. I protested. HARD. I mostly didn’t want to have to spackle the wall later, nor do extra work. Also, I knew it would be top-heavy no matter what.

I decided on wheels to make it easy to clean/movie. The other reason was to let me know if too much weight/cargo was being used without damage.

Goddamn I am jealous of that.  I have zero room for shelves in this dinky-ass room I call home, so I've got animu stacked 2 and 3-deep in these wire cubicles that are crammed next my bed to the point where you can barely get in there.  I finally cleared off the lone free-standing shelf or two of other crap so I could put disks on there, but I've never once been able to have my whole collection all in one nice display.  It may be pathetic but one of my main motivations for moving out of here is being able to have enough room to set up a few Ikea shelves and finally get to see it all.

I have no idea what Ikea that would be about.

But this post reminds me of the time I saw something in the cable guide called "Bikini Islands", and I was like "ooh, that sounds nice" so I put it on, and it's a documentary about a group of islands actually naked named the Bikini Islands, which were not known for ladies in skimpy swimsuits (though I think that's actually where the swimsuit got its name from) but rather the islands served as extensive nuclear bomb test sites. Not quite as sexy as I hoped.

Its about IKEA, the whole company, how it operates and its origins. Its in a docuseries on Netflix. Every episode is about something else. I think the last one I watched was about vaping and then this one started and it was about IKEA and I was like ...

oh gawd

T.T

This might be too sad for me to watch

IKEA must have quite the sordid history.

I wanna see how @Dark_Cloud_Overhead stores her collection. :D

No you don't. You really, really don't. I have most of my stuff in dresser drawers, or cabinets... even have a bunch of DVDs stuffed away in rubbermaid containers. I'm hoping in the coming year I can finally clean out some space so I can organize everything better, but the way it is now, if you were to name a random title in my collection, I'd probably have trouble finding it, even if you gave me like half an hour to do so. 😕

All right. All right.

Here's a couple shots to show you a little better what I mean. I have to use up every little bit of space that I can, so stuff is a couple of rows deep and as a result you can only really see what's up front all that well. It's worse for the stuff in drawers or rubbermaids, as only the tops of the cases or boxes are visible unless I pull stuff out. There's also no real order to any of it. I just put new stuff wherever I can find space for it at the time.

I used to have my DVDs on a bookshelf but Ive been downsizing in the last year so they are now in a paper bag along with some older video games I cant give up yet.

My small collection features Battle Royale, Gokusen, and Welcome to Greenwood.  And all the Yu Yu Hakusho seasons.

I think that's where Bikini Bottom on Spongebob comes from....Which is why the creatures are deformed, and interact with each other differently and there are many things at the bottom like human trash and structures....All that the sealife use to maintain their society.

I saw a video on it but I don'tt wanna look for it right now.

Now I'm curious about how many of those tupperware bins you have. :)  That looks like it's about 1/10 of your collection or less.

I'd post mine, but I'd have to clean up too much shit to make it presentable.

There's only a couple of them actually. There's some other cabinets with stuff too, but probably around half of my collection is packed into the dressers. There's several of those altogether.
