i feel like a dinosaur going to the mall whenever i need a shirt but i don't like getting stuff online because i need to know how it fits and don't feel like dealing with waiting/returning

Posted

I go to one store because I know all the pants are long enough for me

I need to figure out where to get my shoes from now. I used to go to Payless because they had shoes for my big feet

=_=

Now I dunno where to go. I already wear mens sneakers, trying not to wear men's deess shoes too

shirts - landsend.com - got some corporate logo'd shirts from them once at work, very comfortable, fit well & held up for a few years.  Now they're my go to for shirts.

levi's - sears.com (unless Levi's were mislabled at the factory, the sizes are always true).

shoes - famous footwear or sears, in-store.  Size has to be right, that's why in-store.

Suits: Jos A. Bank usually.

Shirtings: Paul Fredrick and Charles Tyrwhitt (both online) Knowing your sizes is a must.

Slacks: Kohl's usually (Dockers are plentiful and consistent) or Men's Wearhouse/Jos A. Bank if I need something a bit more formal

Jeans/socks/teeshirts/boxers : Walmart

Shoes: I got a local guy who gives me a discount if I pay cash. Generally I would suggest Zappos for online. Florsheim, Rockport and Johnston & Murphy are my go to brands, and they all have direct sites as well.

Bottom line, know your measurements and find companies that are true to the sizing. The ones I listed are true to their sizing.

Also, never buy a suit online. Ever. If you absolutely have to, buy it an inch larger and unhemmed, and go to a good local tailor to have it fitted properly.

i guess i'll post what i do

Jos A Banks/Brooks Brothers are too plain for my taste. Men's Warehouse closed down by me, but they were ok.

casual shirts: i go to the Hilfiger and Polo outlet stores about an hour away or Macy's if I'm too lazy to do that

work shirts: Banana Republic only because they seem to be the only store in existence that have a slim fit that 's slim enough to where i don't have to get the shirts tailored right after buying it

work pants: Macy's or Belk

shoes: Clarks Bostonian/Rockport. or New Balance for casual/gym shoes

Jeans: Levis for work/play or Walmart if i need to do work where i'm going to get dirty.

socks/underware/et al: Target

Kohl's, Walmart, and whatever store in the mall I run into that has cute stuff on sale. Pretty much anywhere except for used clothing stores like Goodwill because wearing those clothes will majorly set off my OCD.

I just went to kohls this weekend and all their fucking clothes sucked. They had young girl graphic tees that madison like but when she picked it up the stomach part was cut out. She begged for and i had to say no..

Then all the shirts were like that or weirdly cut. Then i could barely find anything decent or even nice for her. Kohls has really gone down hill. Jcpenney had much nicer stuff and even big girl stuff for me. I kinda wanna take all the kohls stuff back and get my fucking money back.

my stepmom likes kohls but i could never care for them. penneys used to have pretty decent jeans and polo shirts but they changed the material over the years and it became itchy.

the shirts i get are cheaper than the brands that Ginguy posted

Ginguy who has Republican political operative money.

That doesn't do anything to dissuade from the impression that you do in fact make big money

Goodwill is the real answer. Also the Christian thrift store chain but they're more expensive, nicer clothes though

I haven't bought clothes from a brick and mortar store in over five years...

Just figure out your sizes and buy a ton of shit, return most of it, keep a few nice pieces

it was only the shirts that i thought were too pricey for me. Paul Fredrick is silly though because it's 95-115 for one shirt and you'd still have to pay shipping. for a good work shirt i don't see any reason to pay more than $50. anything more than that and you're paying for a name

Honestly, I get most of my clothes from thrift stores especially jeans and flannel shirts.  My fandom t-shirts I get in the men's department at Walmart. But, there is one thrift store here that is super cheap and has jeans for like $3 and often has "all clothes $1" sales quite often.  I even get my boxer shorts, bras, and socks from there occasionally (about $.50 per boxer, bra, pair of socks) which is kind of gross to some people but a little bleach in my wash takes care of my germaphobia.  I don't have much luck with shoes at thrift stores so I get mine at Walmart most of the time and they're around $10.  Being on disability/Social Security has taught me a lot about being a frugal shopper but I've always kinda shopped at thrift stores it's just now I rely on them more heavily.  I don't care about brands but I have Calvin Klein jeans that I paid $1 for and many, many Marvel tshirts from Walmart that were only $5.

You also don't get invited to swanky soirées on private island compounds and pizza parlor basements. It isn't until you're laying naked next to Alan Dershowitz, enjoying the most illegal massage in the world,  that you realize it is the clothes that make the man (do illicit things with minors)

It was the clothes, your honor, the clothes made him do those terrible things.

And with that the defense rests.

i know my size. that's not the problem. the problem is with "slim fit shirts". if i don't get them tailored they look giant on me. i have to find stuff that's slim enough to where i won't have to spend $30 on getting a shirt tailored. i'd rather buy a $50 and not have to get it hemmed rather than a $20 and spend $30 on getting it altered

the only reason i go with brands is because of what i said in an earlier post. some brands fit me better than others. work shoes i get rockport or new balance because i have feet that are wider but not so wide that i need wide shoes.

Yup. I get nerdy men's shirts from Walmart too, and Kohls when they have sales. The slit-fitted shirts in the women's section annoys the shit out of me on top off the horrible choices we get.

If you need help ordering just ask the gin blossom in that beautiful pink Paul Frederick, he is a connoisseur

It’s a mixed bag based on where I’m at. Usually clearance or sale items at H&M or the Uniqlo website. Mall clearance sections or outlet stores have made up a majority of my recent clothes purchases.
