Who on Earth okay'ed this shit. Does anyone actually think this shit will be any good or did they realize too late how shitty it's going to be and just decided to release it anyway to hopefully make some money back.

i would hope the latter. SEGA's dumb but they're not THAT dumb

You can apply this post to literally every Sonic game.

whoa that's a big N-O. ANY sonic game? the 2D ones were great and so was Sonic Adventures 2

We disagree there. Even the first one is kinda not great, in my opinion.

And I like Sonic as a character, at least in theory. I remember liking the cartoon. But even the best of the Sonic games are extremely flawed.

i'll agree the 3D ones have been ok at best and lol at worst, but games like Sonic CD are some really great ones

Fair enough. I may have to revisit them. Admittedly it's been a while.

Sonic CD is on PC now, and it's pretty cheap (and you can probably find it for free if you really tried hard enough, it's not that big of a download and pretty much any PC can probably play it)

Ah yes, Christian Weston Chandler. A sad, sordid tale about a crazed, autistic person who incurred the wrath of /b/ in its prime and just kept giving them ammo.

Oh wow thats a whole ordeal

That video I posted just covers the big details but there's a wealth of information from other sources.

I mostly feel a mix of pity and schadenfreude.

I can tell it's going to be difficult

Chris-chan is a national treasure, and I'll thank you to show him the respect he deserves!

I’m still trying to figure out who this is geared towards. I understand that targeting the 3D era fans and Deviantart furries would be a fundamentally bad idea.

But older people or parents with some familiarity with Sonic would have a hard time gauging what they aim to accomplish with the property.

The only conclusion I could come to is that they wanted to make a time-filler film and slapped Sonic on instead of the Easter bunny or Alvin & the Chipmunks. That the Sonic property never had a purpose in this film other than add a licensed character to a generic “actor befriends CGI animal” kids movie.

It needed to have that one thing that gave Detective Pikachu the upper advantage with fan service to make the game’s world come to life. But because the Sonic story is an irredeemable mess, it was always a fools errand to make a live action Sonic from the start. So filmmakers are left with the choice of creating a nightmare hellscape film for fans or resign themselves to the fate of making a film with no identity or reason to exist other than allowing the studio to have any film slated for the month of its release.
