ah yes. i too have tangled with the licorice beastie. 

i also realized that these candies can get stale. too hard to try and swallow, that is IF you can chew it.

*not that as a kid, i wasn't gong to give it my all*

i check every damn exp. date. and i also noticed that if a date is with 4 months of purchase, 

they are borderline stale. best to get anything 6 months or more. fresh and soft.
