Both this place and the old ASMB...

Like what Pat said.  The people who were drawn to the ASMB in the first place were united by common interest in some weird programming.  It was a broad range of people who got together because we all liked one niche thing.  And where we were all weird for liking weird shit, it was easier to get along and meet folks and find more shared interests.

On top of that, the original ASMB was built as a real community.  SwimBuddha running shop at first, making threads about going to the vending machine and how he'd buy the first person who replied a candy bar.  SwimTorrent taking user ideas for polls on the site.  The team actually sharing what users were saying on TV.  And then you had showrunners and talent like Andy Merrill making the SwimBuddha eats poop thread, and Adam and Matt from Sealab creating the character MCHeshPants420 and trolling the boards before they dropped the episode "Dearly Beloved Seed."  From the community the channel actually provided, it encouraged people to have fun and be weird and open.

And from there it just grew.  After chatting on the boards about topics a and b, it was easy to go into topics c and d and so on off the boards to online chat, and from online to real life meeting.  It was super comfortable because these were already friends that we knew from a community that valued us all.

And UEMB here is an extension of that, because even though the channel left us, the community and friendships were still there and there was a want to spread that feeling again.

Or maybe we're just all fucking loonies.  I dunno.

There's a certain kind of, some might say, broken -We fancy the term eccentric Ourself, but sometimes you have to call a spade a shovel- that many here exemplify. Not all, but many. That's not what's special though, in and of itself, but rather that said brokenness is tolerated. Celebrated, in some circumstances. We're an Island of Misfit Toys.

I joined the ASMB because I got banned on the IRC for Toriyamas World due to my spamming of gay, anime, slash fiction. I simply had to share that beautiful content with someone and since I was already playing games on the old [as] site, joining the forum made a perfect target for my horrendous, if not incredibly sexy, teenage, fan fics.

have been the only online communities with which I've felt comfortable enough to join.

And I can't quite figure out why. What is it these places do differently? It has to be something, but I dunno what.

Weird likes to smoosh into the right kind of another weird and they often smooshily mate for life.

I joined this board almost a year ago because I wanted to snoop on everybody and see how you guys were doing. <.<

Yeah i joined when i first realized that the late night cartoons i was watched were called anime, and i went to the internet and never looked back.

I have only been with a few other communities and this is the only one that really stuck for me.

The variety of people, even though we all are originally here for [as] comedy and anime, makes it unique enough to keep coming back.

I've always been a troll....From the moment I got internet, trolling just felt right....Bet, MTV, VH1....Just whatever, I'm here to shit on your taste in shows and your opinions......I honestly came to [AS].com just to play the Rock, Paper, Scissors deathmatch game when I saw it advertised after ATHF (I remember this vividly).......I came to the site just to play games....Had no intent on ever joining the forum.

Then Tim and Eric became a thing.....I hated them so much that I joined just to complain about that shitty ass show....Long story short, I started liking people here.....Even the T&E fans, despite my disdain for their show.  It just felt like home......Then I discovered Babbling....The rest is history.
