"Could barely tell"? No more than two minutes in and I was asking myself, "Wait did we skip something here?" Did the fact that the ship was just leaving Japan at the end of the last episode and was suddenly at the island without any context not raise any flags for you? Or Senku talking about a specific material he needed from the Soyuz capsule as if the whole crew knew about it, when it was the first we were hearing of it? Or, I dunno, the prominent new character who showed up out of nowhere? Or most tellingly of all, the way that everyone was casually dropping the fact that there were people on the island? The show has never lurched ahead like that without filling in any details, and it stuck out like a sore thumb. Someone I know confirmed it was the wrong episode, and so I bailed right away, figuring in the worst case I could go back on my own and watch episode 6 first. Only I don't have to now, because the block made the right call and decided to air things in their proper order. How is this a hard concept for you to grasp?
-
Maybe for those of us who bailed on the episode as soon as we figured out it was the wrong one, because we wanted to watch the story in its actual order? But yes I'm sure it was some deliberate plotted-out conspiracy instead of the same type of dumbass mistake that the block has been making for 20 years. Totally.

Which [as] Action Screw-Up Was the Biggest in Your Opinion?

It was before my time but I think screwing up the finale of your most high-profile anime co-production of all wins it easily. -
dr. stone Dr. Stone Episode #42 (307) Discussion
Top Gun replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
...it doesn't? Right from the start they're magically already at the island and talking about inhabitants whom we didn't even know existed. I was sitting there thinking, "Wait a second, did we skip something?"- 116 replies

It may have aired early on. I've tried to block as much about it from my memory as I possibly can. Another fun thing about that block. At one point it aired the deliciously cheesy Street Fighter II V, but it cut the series off about 2/3 of the way through for seemingly no reason. A group of us on the boards were already watching shows on our own and then discussing them once a week (we started off with Monster, before SyFy aired it), and because we weren't going to stand for letting that masterpiece go unfinished, we decided to try watching the rest of it together live for the first time. It worked out pretty well, and so a certain poster who liked a certain pirate anime put together a schedule and forced us to start watching it together from the beginning. It's been over 15 years and counting, but most of us are still watching the new episode of One Piece every week, and we have that interrupted Street Fighter series of all things to thank for it.

The dichotomy of that block is still hilarious to me. It launched with a premiere of the GITS: SAC sequel movie Solid State Society, which kicked ass, and then I think that was followed by the great mindscrew sci-fi series Noein, and then like Jman said later on it had huge titles like Gurren and Gundam 00 and freaking Monster...but in the same breath it would air absolute drek like Vampire Wars or Sword for Truth, or what I still think may be the very worst anime series I've ever witnessed, Virus Buster Serge. I am never getting those brain cells back. Say what you will about [as]'s ups and downs over the years, but even in its worst moments it's never plummeted to those depths of shit.

SyFy tried running Ani-Monday against [as], but along with some great shows they also were in the habit of airing some of the most dire godawful OVAs ever animated, and they also had a ton of commercial breaks and wound up cutting out episode content for time. The whole thing fizzled out after a few years.

I had the exact same reaction to what you spoiled. Sooooo satisfying. This game has refined the BotW experience in myriad ways, and one of them is enemy placement. BotW had that invisible "leveling-up" system that universally upgraded the colors of monsters depending on how many you'd killed or bosses you'd completed or however it works. It seems to be more regional in TotK, since even after dozens of hours I'm still seeing clusters of red enemies. Powerful enemies like Lynels and the mini-bosses seem to be fixed at a certain level too, which is handy when you're trying to get a specific picture for the Compendium. There were a few weapons in BotW you could level out of ever seeing, and a few more that had limited fixed spawns, but all of those seem easily renewable now, which is nice. But yeah, I've been bingeing this off and on since the release weekend. I've finished three of the main regional quests, completed who knows how many side quests, done a ton of stuff in the sky, found at least some hidden treasures in the Depths, and there are still two whole overworld regions I haven't been in yet. Every play session I start off with a vague plan, but then I get distracted by finding something new that usually leads to a few other new things, and then I look up and I've been playing for 4 hours.

7/15 Toonami Update: FLCL Reruns added
Top Gun replied to CountFrylock's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
It's kind of lame that we're getting a rerun plunked in the middle, but it's pretty obviously a warm-up for one of those new projects, whatever they wind up being. Plus...it's FLCL. I've seen it easily over two dozen times, I can quote almost every line, and I'll be there again quoting every line along with it. -
Okay the burro joke got me.

I'm not sure if I ever interacted with her on the ASMB, but from hearing everyone talk I really wish I had. Rest in peace.

Demon Slayer Swordsmith Village to get 70 minute season finale
Top Gun replied to Jman's topic in Anime & Manga
I've heard pretty mediocre things about this season. I still haven't even felt motivated to watch Mugen Train. -

It was my younger brother's game so I'd just fool around with it a bit, but I think he wound up having BIte for anything that was strong against water, and Water Gun/Hydro Pump for anything that was weak to it. That thing was a steamroller.

My brother got through all of Blue with a single overleveled Blastoise, so you shut your damn mouth.
