They're large statues of men used for advertising, originally for muffler shops - the most famous is the "Indian" seen in "Wayne's World" at 63rd & Pulaski in Chicago. Besides the Muffler man & Indian version, there's an Astronaut, Frankenstein, Paul Bunyan and others.

Used to go to a place in Chicago that had "Kickass Garlic Bread" as a menu item. Ciabatta with garlic butter & romano cheese - served with marinara, I could live off the stuff.
