Time is a cruel mistress. Yakuza’s first game has a goofy English dub, but even that had Mark Hamil to make up for it. Eventually, Yakuza 7 would get an English dub that has voice work from George Takei and a stellar cast of professional anime voice actors. Meanwhile, Shenmue’s z-grade voice acting is retained from game-to-game because the unnatural robotic conversations became a part of the game’s identity. I love the games, but much of its charm comes from being one of the most expensive and beloved kusoge out there.

A Shenmue anime wouldn’t feel complete if it didn’t sound like they pulled people from the street to record the dub.

I used to catch it back when it was Extended Play and he had Kate Botello as a cohost. It used to be one of my favorite shows back in middle school along with Anime Unleashed. I’d also watch lot of their shows as chill background noise like Eye Drops, Screen Savers, and Call for Help. The G4 years were rough, but X-Play at least had a good few years until it ended up getting bombarded by Campus PD and Cheaters reruns.

I don’t remember the Red Light District arc being explicit, but I’d guess they’re being asked a ton of questions about it because the arc does focus on brothels and the women who work there.
