As with the FFA thread, the gritty look of the universe combined with the goofier humor does remind me of how the Mario Brothers movie came about. I can’t see the movie being great, but it should be fun to watch or at least ridiculous enough to be entertaining. It is difficult to not hear Deadpool in Ryan Reynolds’ version of Pikachu, but it sounds like that was what the film was going for by having him do a similar voice with the detective form of Pikachu.

DB Evolution was a more dramatic overhaul that changed everything about the characters as well as the lore. If it were to be as bad as DB Evolution, Pikachu would have to be a 20 year old high school student in yellow face paint. Mario Brothers seemed more apt to me because it was still the same concept as the game, but set in a gritty, edgy backdrop. The steampunk town aesthetic and Mr Mime’s face were clue-ins too.

It looks like the awful live action Mario Brothers movie, but that’s why I want to watch it

I think there was one local gym teacher I remember a year ago who was busted for this, but often when they’re on the news, they’re unattractive molesters. Often either the janitor or the gym teacher too.

Did anyone even see the last movie? Good thing that they announced it alongside Gonzo’s 3D anime or else it would’ve been the most lackluster project in this announcement. -

My sister used to loop the Affirmation album on repeat during car trips, so I couldn’t think of a better band to represent the late 90’s to the year 2000 than Savage Garden.

I’m glad it revived the discourse of analyzing what they meant when they said “a chicka cherry cola”

What Is Your Least Favorite Horror Sub-genre(s)?

The last remake I saw was the one for Elm Street, but it feels like the creativity or atmospheric creepiness was stripped away in favor of emphasizing how creepy it is that this iteration of Freddy was a child molestor like the original scrapped idea for his character. It seems like the most asymptotic of most remakes save for the new Halloween one where the passion and creativity is stripped in favor of making a rehashed slasher but with the modern conveniences of CGI, the occasional gore, and a story that’s passable enough and PG-13 enough to waste time for teens looking to throw popcorn at other moviegoers during Halloween. I still need to see newer films like The Witch, It Follows, and Babadook, but cheap remakes or stuff like Insidious just let me down and discourage me from horror films past the early 2000’s. I like watching horror during October but I found the only horror-themed things I enjoyed this time around were Devilman Crybaby and playing through RE2 -

Looking it up, there’s an odd distinction with gorno material. I can get into The Evil Dead movies or Ichi the Killer, but I find that the Saw movies and a lot of Eli Roth’s movies focus too hard on seeing how they can make someone’s death look gross that there aren’t any genuine scares. I think that I have a better time accepting gorno if the movie is campy. Like the Evil Dead series and Bruce Campbell are great because of how immersed in the goofy atmosphere it is, so while it’s not scary, the gore highlights more of the cartoonish atmosphere of the universe. Same with Ichi. Meanwhile, the gore in mid-2000’s horror was just joyless and focused more on trying to see how they can pull someone apart or throw acid on them to emphasize how cringe inducing or gross it could be. -
Can’t help but feel disappointed that it’s not the one Sacha Baron Cohen proposed, but maybe I’ll catch it when it’s streamable

Gorno or ones where it’s more gross than scary -
Haven’t thought about Pokémon, but I definitely beat Pokémon Silver before I got the full version of FFVII
