As far as Final Fantasy goes, I'm pretty much a 16-bit only guy... just listened to this theme for a little over a minute and it didn't even sound like a battle theme to me, let alone a boss battle theme. It sounds more like an "explore the open world" theme.

Damn, was that because of the eye-patch or lack of glasses? In high school P.E. swimming unit, I had to get out of the pool to use the bathroom. I was genuinely shocked I was able to find the bathroom and a urinal without my glasses... But the bathroom was mere yards away from the pool anyway. (outdoor pool... This is California, after all). But then when it came time to get back in the pool, there was no fucking way in hell I was going to figure out which lane I came from to go back to.
