My mental health is deteriorating rapidly.

It helped me to accept that things will be bad and just be ok with your powerlessness to do anything about those in power. We all get mired in this presentism that makes us believe that Joe Rogan is always going to be the hottest shit in media, that MAGA will always be the most powerful thing in politics, that what drove people to the polls for Trump today will drive them to him tomorrow, etc. Change can happen fast. You never know when the last cheeseburger could be eaten or the craven politicians jump ship due to a turning tide.

Also, the stars will still be in the sky, dogs and cats will still love their people and bears will keep shorting in the woods. That is at least something that will probably stay the same for now … unless a gamma ray burst we never detected washes over earth and kills all life making all the unnecessary emotional space given to Trump worth nothing.

Not trying to be profound. If stuff like the Education Department and WIC are eliminated, my life will be much harder. But how much can I let that take away from trying to enjoy now?

Colorado's Democratic governor cheers RFK Jr. pick for HHS

https://www.axios.com/local/denver/2024/11/14/jared-polis-democrat-governor-rfk-jr-hhs

"What he's saying: Kennedy "will help make America healthy again by shaking up HHS and FDA," Polis said in a Thursday statement on X. "What I'm most optimistic about is taking on Big Pharma and the corporate ag oligopoly to improve our health."

The intrigue: Polis appeared aware that his statement would be controversial. He asked people to dive deeper into the issues "before you mock him or disagree."

  • In a subsequent social media post, Polis backtracked, saying he "will hold any HHS secretary to the same high standard of protecting and improving public health.""

For all the pearl clutching at RFK, this actually is a pick that easily could have bi-partisan support. RFK is very skeptical of Big Pharma and their ability to hide from lawsuits, thinks the Gov should be able to negotiate prices, and thinks Americans should be able to import drugs from Canada. All points that a lot of Liberals make.

He also is a huge champion against processed food, and thinks Obesity is our biggest health crisis.

He gets a lot of shit, but hes also pretty spot on with a lot of whats causing health problems in this country. Ultra processed foods, artificial sweeteners and colors, all sorts of chemicals in our food. These are generally bad for you. Im very excited to see what he can do to help fight back on these problems.

How about no.

Nominations shouldn't require spin doctors and shit-whisperers to 'explain' why a totally horrible pick is actually the greatest f-ing pick ever! The dude had a brain worm...in his brain...that DIED. Brain worms live to do two things - eat brains and shit eggs. His singular worm DIED. Yeah, I really want that kind of person in charge of determining what is and isn't safe to eat.

And, anyone popping up with a 'he was just trolling! lol' hot take if/when any of these shitty picks are pulled is full of shit themselves. You want someone to make shitty hiring choices, put them in charge of a hot dog cart. It's not 'trolling' when the positions being filled are going to affect everyone in the damn country.

I wonder if Jimmy Carter was told Harris lost. If I was his kid I think I would’ve lied to him and told him Harris won so he wouldn’t have to die knowing we chose a fuckin dildo for President, again

Up next, he's going to pick that snail trail head of Moms for Liberty for Education. Calling it now.

After all, nothing says qualified like someone who hates kids, hates books and hates education being tapped to be in charge of all those things until it can be completely gutted.

Look at RFK Jr being forced to eat one of the most highly processed foods in the world.

A shred of schadenfreude but it's still schadenfreude

Won't affect celebrities either way

You say that but with trumps presence there’s an increased desire from his party and supporters to commit acts of terrorism against anyone who isn’t a straight white dude

you think they’ll give celebrities a pass?  I have my doubts

And celebrities are rich enough to move out of the country or buy a bunker or hire a small private army if they wish

Putin can make anyone he doesn’t like vanish off the face of the earth and that’s who trump wants to imitate

I don’t think we should so easily ignore the fact he wants to imprison and possibly kill those who don’t like him

Kill those he Doesn’t like

If anyone thinks he can’t touch them  think again.

This isn't Russia and if Trump tries to pull that shit then he's going to trigger a coup

Denzel honestly thinks both sides are the same and we’d be getting a tyrant no matter what

I mean, he didn't exactly say that, but it's pretty disappointing that's all he's got to say about what's going on when it comes to politics right now. I get that he's trying to be apolitical in advance of the big movie he's in coming out, but saying something like that doesn't come off as apolitical really; it just comes off as gutless honestly because there really is no equating the way the left and the right operate anymore at all.

People keep saying trump can’t possibly get away with what he wants to do

whose gonna tell him no? He’s surrounding himself with yes men and so far he’s been able to escape facing any consequences for his actions

I doubt that’s gonna change anytime soon

trump gets what he wants we’re seeing that as we speak

When his Stance is both sides are corrupt  that’s the same as saying voting for anyone is a vote for a dictatorship so why bother voting at all?

There's gonna be some resistance to him getting the things he wants, but we've seen in the past that he doesn't have a problem stepping back when there's a public outcry and then try to get what he wants later on again and again until either people's resistance has been broken down or he can just simply find a way around it. He's ignorant about how government is supposed to work, but he's primarily just looking to tear things down and purge anyone not loyal to him, so unfortunately given enough time he will eventually get his way on a lot things.

Just a matter of how many roadblocks can be thrown up to slow him down to try and run out the clock before the midterms when maybe, just maybe, the dems can get back the house or senate and act as an actual check on him. That's pretty wishful thinking I believe at this point though.

Yeah, I get what you're saying, but corruption doesn't necessarily equal dictatorship. There's been corruption in our government for a long time, as well as many others around the world, without it ever going anywhere near the point of a full-blown dictatorship.

Blue states. Literally the GOP has been deconstructing federal restraints for states to have more power. That doesn't just apply to red states.

What is it the right is always saying about “the elites” or some dumb shit?  Who among Trump’s administration aren’t part of the wealthy ruling class?

“Cantor Fitzgerald CEO, oh yeah that guy is just like me!” -Anyone at a Trump Rally

Picturesque Italian village offers $1 homes to Americans trying to flee US after Trump victory

Be lying if I said I wasn't somewhat tempted. Next to Japan, Italy is the country I would most love to see. Don't know about living there though.

If I knew Italian, I would be seriously tempted.  Start over from scratch in a remote job, rebuild an old town.  Very pioneer of them.

His picks get worse and worse. Bye bye dept of education. Now there will be no standard of learning and teaching the south won the civil war will be perfectly fine. Craziest shit is the people wanting this the most are the same people opining how younger generations can’t read and write in cursive. They don’t have to worry about that anymore. Future generation won’t even know how to read

You’re going to see a LOT of remedial classes for adults.  Lot of demand for community colleges and GED’s.  Because when they don’t have it is when they’re going to realize they need it.
