Toonami's certain yet somehow also uncertain future

In this thread, we talk about how, while we know for certain that we get an epic night of Batman this Saturday, and we know Blade Runner: Black Lotus is coming November 13th, practically everything else about Toonami is a big fat question mark, and here's why...

SHOWS ENDING (EPISODES LEFT)

Black Clover (0)

Fena: Pirate Princess (1)

My Hero Academia (2)

Food Wars (4?)

Yashahime Season 1 (8? 11?)

By December, with the exception of Shippuden, we will have an almost completely different lineup. So it would really behoove Toonami to announce what the heck it's gonna do with some of those rotating timeslots!

Low hanging fruit: Demon Slayer Season 2; Jujutsu Kaisen; Ass Class Season 2; Harley Quinn Season 2?? (Hell, they ARE airing Batman movies, and you couldn't pick a better time to announce it, especially if it's allowed to air uncut and uncensored at 2 AM/11 PM PT or something!)

Longshots: SSSS.Dynazenon; Lupin III Part 6; Mob Psycho Season 2; Boruto Season 2

One thing is for certain: I expect to be surprised! Bring it on, Toonami!!

I hope to be surprised, too. Though it wouldn't take much to surprise me since I don't keep up much with current stuff. Stil, most of those shows aren't really ending, just stopping till more episodes are ready. I'm gonna really miss Black Clover though. I'm personally crossing my fingers they put on another fantasy world show with swords and sorcery type stuff. Anything in that genre really, other than more SAO that is.

As I mentioned before there are a ton of returning shows with new seasons that Toonami has aired before, plus several new picks I can think of that would be right at home on Toonami. I don't think this is an indication that they'd need to do a lot of last-minute decisions, but it IS a sign that they need to make those decisions NOW. I believe they have already been working on that, or at least they should.

Didn't Demon Slayer's new season start like, a week ago? I doubt the dub will have enough episodes ready to air before Thanksgiving at the earliest. Ass Class is the most obvious answer for one of those slots and I'd be surprised if it didn't pop back up to replace something. Yashahime can probably just belly flop into season 2 without a break, god help us all. It's just a real rough coincidence that so many shows are ending so close together.

Yeah, first episode was last week and the post Mugen Train material isn’t till December.

The only way Toonami would air Demon Slayer Season 2 soon is if it was a simuldub.

It'll be nice to get some fresh blood in the lineup, even if it's just new seasons of older shows. I had a lot of fun with AssClass but kind of forgot about it since, so hopefully we get the rest of that. A bit longer-term but the second half (part?) of AoT's final season was just announced to start in January so that seems a safe bet in a few months.

I'd say it's more likely to be February following the conclusion of Blade Runner: Black Lotus.

THIS JUST IN!!!

FB_IMG_1634152583930.jpg

Aaaaaand a marathon of Fena on October 30th (starting curiously at 10:30), which means we don't get the regular lineup back (probably with a full hour of MHA) until November 6th!

That’s the quickest turnaround from Blu-Ray to Toonami yet.

Maybe they feel it will do better in the lead-up to Halloween than it would on Halloween weekend itself?

I think at this point it's a foregone conclusion we'll get the normal lineup on Thanksgiving weekend this year. With both Christmas and New Year's Day on Saturdays this year, those are almost guaranteed to be marathons or some other sort of special event, though I suppose they COULD attempt the regular lineup on 1/1/22. I for one would like to see them air Gundam Thunderbolt one December. Could this be the year?

I Hope we have some amazing announcements in november to make this long pause for the block worth it

because that long of a wait...you got people wondering what is it...what's coming in november aside from blade runner?

the mystery and speculation begins

will it be something unexpected or expected...something minor or something major

About Demon Slayer, isn't there a six episode television version of the movie? If so, it would provide the cushion for dubbing the new season.

Otherwise I'd expect Blade Runner, Ass Class 2, and half an hour of anime themed cosplay tik tok vids....

Assassination Class Room S2 while expected would be very underwhelming after the long pause

That's what I think.

Other than the first episode of Season 1, which is basically just a prequel to the events leading directly up to the movie recapping the adventures Rengoku had before meeting up with Tanjiro and Zengitu on the train, that's it for new material for 6 weeks.

Count me in with the rest of the Ass Class 2 party. I'm still frustrated they didn't just go straight into it after season 1 finished - pre-emptively logged it on my rating schedule and everything, too - and Demarco did say they'd get around to airing the second half, so really, they have no excuse but lack of remaining budget if they fail to bring it to us by the end of this year.

they also did say Boruto would return...before it didn't so   what they say isn't always accurate

Jujutsu Kaisen wouldn't be advised until they've got the second season done and dubbed. It's got it's following so having a straight run of at least two seasons on tap [ with the hope of a third season being worked on slowly but surely ] would be the optimum to draw current fans and new potentials in.

Please no more Gundam though. -.-; If you are going to throw away a spot on space opera filler, just get the rights to 'Galaxy Rangers' and be done with it. At least it's 80's cheesy on semi-purpose and it's probably dirt cheap at this point since I'm probably the only one here who remembers it. :D:D:D

Or perhaps Yamato 2199/2202? It's damn near mysterious THAT hasn't shown up on Toonami yet. A bona fide space opera like that would be great in a mid-block slot, and Food Wars! won't last THAT much longer.

Gundam isn't exactly "space opera" subgenre; it's "Real Robot." Elements of the same but not quite the same.

Never thought we'd be at the point where DC animated movies seem to be easier to acquire than actual anime series, but here we are.

Netflix has that on lockdown…where it gets good views.

I swear, if the Netflix Bebop or Yu Yu Hakusho become hits and get SNL skits or something, I expect DeMarco to scream.  Or TOM to make a very angry speech towards Netflix.

Which, Jujutsu Kaisen or Galaxy Rangers? I thought Netflix USA didn't have the streaming rights to the first at least - I watched the show on CrunchyRoll where it's been uploaded in a number of different languages. Galaxy Rangers getting good ratings anywhere is just plain weird.  :D Unless you are thinking about Power Rangers which strangely get ratings no matter how old the episodes and are also supposedly not going to be on Netflix anymore.

I meant Gundam. Kaisen was actually on HBO Max but with the sale final I expect it to go if not gone already.

Sale final? Netflix has gotten random Gundam shows in the past but usually only AFTER they air on Toonami!

Netflix may have "f**k you" money, but they're NOT omnipotent!

I meant the Crunchyroll sale to Sony.  Those anime are likely leaving HBO Max very soon if they haven’t already.

Well, then how does Netflix have Gundam on lockdown? There is ample evidence that they have JOJO on lockdown, but I can't see any evidence of Gundam being on lockdown.

I know FUNi has some entries, and Netflix has the Hathaway movies.  It’s evenly divided.

Wait... does that mean we're probably not getting any more Jojo?

Thank fuck.

I enjoyed the first 2 or 3 seasons of Jojo. But man it just goes off the rails and loses any semblance of coherence. The horny rape monkey whose stand was an actual ship was a nice touch though.

Netflix announced it like, months ago. The hell rock have you been living under?

One that doesn't get Netflix.

Plus, like... I didn't enjoy the series. Seems pretty natural I wouldn't keep up on the news about it.

I mean. The campy over-the-top isn't awful. It's just gone on a bit longer than I personally find pleasant.

Also probably turned off tag notifications a long time ago.
