CountFrylock
I Don't....there are too many of them as it stands and subscribing just to watch one show and add on another bill to pay isn't a fun idea especially since streaming services have the habit of rotating shows in and out....or outright removing them for one reason or another once upon a time streaming was seen as the better alternative to cable...now it's becoming just as bad if not worse due to every company wanting a streaming service and everyone's favorite shows being split off into different services they have to pay monthly for

Real_AirCooledGirl
No. Streaming companies can give or take away content on a whim that way. Why should we consumers have to put up with that? I'd rather have anime, movies, etc. on physical media that I can display on my shelves. Having it streamed isn't the same. A critical piece of the experience is lost that way. cyberbully
I feel like you're comparing apples and oranges here.Ā If we're talking steaming services, they aren't here to replace physical media, they are here to replace shit like cable and satellite..... scoobdog
I kind of thought the intent, early on, was for services like Apple Plus, CBSN, and HBO Max to be a directĀ replacement for ownership of individual titles. Yes I Know that but with standard television becoming less and less relevant...that's gonna be the norm for all shows and movies The TV Networks are already seen as quite outdated so i see less variety in the line up's and fewer new shows as a result(Most New Ones hitting streaming services instead) Physical Movies/TV Shows are just for the really nerdy collectors these days so i can see fewer and fewer of them being made only leaving the ones forĀ series people will pay good money for leaving the option for everyone else to go down the pirate route or subscribe to numerous streaming services at which point the culling will begin because i can't see the industry sustaining so many streaming services at once without several folding and calling it quits Edited August 9, 2021 by CountFrylock

GuyBeardmane
With the release of Eva 3.0 + 1.0, I have strong opinions on this now.Ā I can't stand Amazon, but I had to sign up for an Amazon Prime trial to watch the movie.Ā When my trial expires, I will no longer be able to see the movie.Ā I would love to have a bluray copy so I can put it on my shelf next to Evas 1.11, 2.22, and 3.33, but I have a strong suspicion that Amazon will not allow the movie to be released on physical media. It's shit.

It's not just TV and movies that are badly affected by streaming without physical releases. Video games, too. I have consoles from the Genesis/32X to the original Wii. I'm also a PC gamer. Digital releases are not the same as having physical discs and cartridges that you can display on your shelf. And what happens if the servers for Steam, Origin, PSN, etc. go down for good? What happens to your games? How would you play them without physical media to store them on? There's a reason why I won't buy a new PC unless it has an optical drive. I have older games that came on CDs and DVDs and would like to be able to install and play them.

Real_AirCooledGirl
Just now, AndrƩ Toulon said: I sold a rare copy of little Samson for 1000 bucks because fuck physical media The only time I sell physical media of anything is if I upgrade movies and anime from DVD to Blu-ray. I did that when I upgraded Marmalade Boy, Patlabor, Gungrave, Black Lagoon, Chobits, Shakugan No Shana, and some others, and that was a couple years ago. Marmalade Boy, in particular, was one show I hoped to get some money from. On one hand, three of the box sets (there were no singles in the Tokyopop release) had remainder scratches on the barcodes. On the other hand, all four sets had cels that, put together, show a scene from the show (I won't spoil it here if you haven't watched). The Patlabor DVDs were Central Park Media's old sets and I upgraded to a Blu-ray box set that had the movies, OVAs, and TV series. I didn't expect the guy at the flea market to make it rain, but I did want to get all the money I could. I then used the trade-in value to buy some Genesis, PS1, Super NES, and Saturn games. PhilosipherStoned
PhysicalĀ home releases? (Oh I guess you mean just straight to dvd or dvd etc adaptions)... Anyway I've been diggin amazon video a bit. I'm pretty sure I read something about The Boys going to HBO max for season 3 months ago, and who knows how long it'll take Incredible to release season 2. They advertise both of these still like it's their top money makers and you need to subscribe for more.. but as a fan of horror they linked me to Shudder.. which I'm probably being charged for seperately or I'm gonna be at some point.. Still I found a lot of new horror flics there I digged whether they were low budget or just poorly advertised I can't lump any of the movies I found there in with the b/cĀ movie barrage Tubi would give me..Ā Edited August 15, 2021 by PhilosipherStoned

Dark_Cloud_Overhead
I've yet to subscribe to a single streaming service. The idea of paying for anything atop of my cable bill is just... no. Dumping cable just to have to subscribe to a bunch of different services is also a no for me. It is frustrating though, as a lot of shows I'd like to see are exclusively on some of the streaming services, but I figure if they're any good they'll get a home video release, and I'll eventually be able to check them out from my library for free. There's just so much stuff that's available for free that I could pick up from there anytime, there's really no reason that I see to pay extra just to watch something right away.
Real_AirCooledGirl
I subscribed to Crunchyroll once upon a time, but it was only so I could watch anime without ads polluting it. Watched a fair chunk of anime that way. If something particularly catches my eye, I prefer buying that in physical form, ideally on Blu-ray. I've since cancelled my subscription because life happened.
