we're supposed to get -2F and 8" of snow sunday night. you're welcome to shove spring down my throat anytime.

yikes and eeghads.

i was a little leery of going out and cutting hedges and trimming because

of a latent cold snap. but i think we're in the clear of frost.

the redbuds are already blooming, as well as the 'tulip tree' and rose of sharon (sp)

i just need the frost to leave the ground so we can bring in the plumber for our venue. he won't cut thru the alley and tap the water/sewer until the frost is out. at this rate, it won't ever happen.

May June will be your best bet

as for op, i'm very jealous. spring cleaning/yardwork is like, one of my favorite things. i'ma just look thru the fence and drool while you get yours going. :(

She got one big area totally cleaned off the other day. It was supposed to be our outdoor kitchen area, but will now be used as a gardening prep area. Complete with work tables and everything else she needs.

see, that's what every backyard needs. a place to create and build and grow. especially if there's kids in the mix. i was just reading a study (but it's just one study! i get that) saying people who are more exposed to green and growing stuff as children tend to suffer from significantly less depression and anxiety as adults.

I have heard that too. And our boy loves being outside.

We have three fountains in the backyard. Each with a pool. One with a bridge you can walk over. We have a huge patio, complete with electricity.

We have several shops. One we are looking to expand, since it has water hook ups. We will be breaking ground for the garden soon too.

We want to try making wine this summer, since we do have a small, very very small vineyard.

i get that.  but you all technically won't get any warmth for another week or so, right?

i've catching bits on the weather channel. the last thing i saw was the cold front pushing down

and then swooping upwards towards ny/ma area.

yeah, it's coming this weekend. one last gasp (hopefully) and winter should start retreating. shit, up in sponges' territory and farther north, they got FEET of snow in the last week.

i feel like anything as warm as usda zone 8 doesn't technically experience more than a couple days of winter.

i have to say, i'm not a fan of the damn humidity,

but...BUT...being zone 8 is not terrible when trying to plant for

the bees. i ordered seeds from burpee for some really unique flowers,

i know they will thrive here.

bells of ireland, amaranthus (green), viola, and of course cat nip. :)

also got some watermelon (bush baby) romaine, and fennel.

What? Lol ive never heard of such a thing. U telling me there's TWO springs bitch

The division of the seasons seems arbitrary to me. Here, it always seems like fall is only like a month long (late October/early Novmber to Early December). This year fall started in I want to say late September (which I guess is abnormally normal), and then winter happened when it usually did... but then it got even COLDER for practically the entire month of February. I don't think I've ever experienced that before. February was practically "super winter" here. (super winter in comparison to normal winter here, all you non-Californians would laugh at me calling this super winter).

Finally this past week it's starting to warm up. I get out of work at 4:30 AM, and finally there's no longer any frost or fog on my car windshield when I get out of work. It's still raining though, which is weird.

It finally stopped raining long enough to get out in the yard this past weekend. Did a bunch of weed pulling and brush clearing. This yard hasn’t been tended in years and is ROUGH, but I’ve got a little garden spot that’s ready to be tilled and another spot ready for my chicken coop. 👌🏻

Come up here and show me your ways. 😅

i would love to.

but this yard isn't as pretty as it could be. needs lots of tlc in fact.

i didn't do shit with it last year. did a little trimming, planted some things...and the garden. but nothing in the 'secret garden'

but it's coming along swimmingly.

I don't know what disco is talking about. In Georgia, we have two seasons: summer and fall. That's it.

That’s bullshit, and you KNOW it. I know it, too. I used to live in Georgia. Every winter: blizzard.

You fuckers have a fucking winter. Harsh ass winter.

You must have lived in north Georgia.

Down here on the coast, we see snow a couple times every ten years, and not enough to amount to anything.

The thing about the weather down here is, it's hot one day, then freezing the next, repeat.

Beggar Bun-Bun, the beggar bunny who likes to hang out in my window, realized this morning that the drifts are now high enough and strong enough for him to reach the bird feeder.

He is a fat bun-bun right now. :D

I just read this to disco, as she's not online, and she was in awe. I'm laughing, even though I probably shouldn't be.

Lived in 2 places in Georgia. Greater Gwinnett county, and Peachtree.

Yep. North Georgia gets snow. We don't down here. This close to the coast, the winters are mild. I have worn shorts and a t shirt at Christmas several times.

I have on Christmas several times in Texas, too. Even swam, because of 100-degree heat.

Our flowers and trees started blooming a few weeks ago. Pollen is everywhere. Lots of rain. Our weather is crazy right now. Last week was a roller coaster. 50 degrees one day, then the very next day it was in the 80's. It kept going like that for a week.

When we went to Savannah last Friday, we left in long sleeves because it was frigid. By lunch time, we had the air conditioner on in the car.

Fun update on this -

Beggar bun-bun who transformed into Fatty bun-bun at some point last night / this morning turned into 'I-killed-the-dinosaurs' bun-bun. He got too heavy for the snow crust while pigging out on sunflower seeds and cratered into the drift. :D:D:D He's safe somewhere under the junipers right now but I wish I had been awake to see it. Judging by the explosive damage, he really spazzed his way out of there. :D:D:D

I need to go outside and waffle stomp the area into a safe windbreak now and refill the feeder for the birds who are starting to line up outside my window looking for pity. :D
