GunStarHero Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 Honestly surprised it's lasted this long. Haven't touched it in probably 8 years at this point. Was fun at the time and an alternative to the boards and even Chatzy when we used that way back in 2004-2006.

If I'm not mistaken, most of the more prominent IM services were available at the time but not a lot of people on the boards were using any of them. Chatzy was an in-browser chat service that you could create and modify rooms with. There were usually multiple rooms going at once, some with passwords, others without. But the appeal was the drop in, drop out setup. You didn't need to register and could even use the same name as someone else if you so chose. Lots of private rooms for cybering, I recall. Then Myspace and YIM/AIM/MSN started gaining traction and people would use those in conjunction with the boards, as well as online gaming services.
katt_goddess Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 Yeah, I just saw that notice too. I haven't used it since my dial-up days because tinychat become the better alternative for the few times I felt social but it's still sad it's going. Most of my old WS / [ as ] connections were via YIM once the FC went away.
Sieg67 Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 Wasn't AIM discontinued a while ago? I'm surprised they lasted that long with how easy texting is. My only question is how will they catch the predators now?
Chapinator_X Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 (edited) It's been ages. I guess it is the last of the instant messengers left Edited June 12, 2018 by imchapp.in
Vercaties Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 How dare they discontinue my repressed childhood!!!
K_N Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 With the ASMB, AIM, MSN and now YIM gone nearly every record of my years of cybersex with forum weirdos is gone from the internet. The times, they are a changin'. 1

Ginguy Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 I never used any of those. Nothing of value is being lost. Honestly I kind of want Facebook and Twitter to be next....
