The more work you do, the more they expect outta you.  I like to keep the bar way lowxD

you really should. there is no real benefit of doing more than what you are expected  since you wont be getting any raise and youll be doing so much work.

I've never had to work from home, but I want to avoid it for this reason.

this is the first time i am doing it and it feels hard to concentrate on work.

like doing anything else is better than work.

I've been working from home for the past few years and it's tough at times, really not for everyone.

I find it's best to set yourself a rigid schedule, just like you'd have in an office, and stick to it with as few exceptions as possible.

Failing that, set a quota for the hours of actual work you need to do in a day and time yourself.

That sounds like it takes a lot of discipline

lol, that's why I do that, used to bust my ass but reaped no benefits from it other than making other people money, since they don't believe in spreading the wealth, I no longer believe in working until my eyes crossxD

so now I'm all about the:

at best you are looking at very marginal money compensation if you are lucky. at worst you will get asked to do more and get nothing in return.

if im at home im just never going to want to do anything productive. im not very structured either so any schedule would not work for me.

I work from home sometimes, and sometimes I'm out in the field, sometimes out in meetings. It is kind of chaotic at times, but it isn't that bad.

It really just boils down to getting up every morning, writing down a list of things to get done, and doing it.

It does. My first few times trying to work from home didn't go well.

I still can't focus if I'm not specifically working in my office at home... if I take my laptop out in the living room or something I end up playing with cats or watching netflix.

I could never do it.  First off my cat wouldn't let me. He's got this new trick where he taps you on the leg or shoulder for attention and second I have zero discipline. I'm one of those jackasses that needs provided structure. xD

I don't keep a tight schedule and just try to finish a list of daily/weekly goals I have on a whiteboard. That way I'm not stressing out over time(which leads to me getting distracted by the internet), and I don't get bored. It really does take a lot of self control though and like @KN said, it sometimes takes a few tries to get it right. Just try out some things like reorganizing your work area to make you more productive or look up tips from other people working at home with the same/similar job as you.

Yeah our cats are actually a huge problem with my work life sometimes.

My biggest one has a new trick where he gets behind my monitors and slowly shimmies himself right up against my keyboard.

i work at home a lot for bar stuff because it's impossible to do some of that shit while actually at the bar. we put together a home office last month because it's hard to focus when you're hanging out downstairs with the kids running around and tv / music going. i actually get shit done when i'm in the home office, but i tend to immerse myself into my work and lose track of time, especially with the design stuff we've started working on for the bar. focus isn't my problem; it's the lack of free time to dedicate to the work. i usually don't get started til after 9pm when the kiddos are bathed and sleeping, and before you know it, it's 2am and i have to be up at 6 for the day job.

I often envy my boss for her flexibility to work from home or at the office but at the same time I know that without being forced to commute to a space purely dedicated to work or without constantly being on the phone while working from home, I'd be a complete loss.

how can you not get distracted? i have work but cant concentrate on it xD

If you booked me to film a scene everyday for a month with no off days, I’d be fine doing it, but when I’m at home, just doing one camshow can be the hardest thing to accomplish.

this is very true at the company i just began working at. they let call reps do training, assist line, floor assist and lead assistant and even supervisor duties without raising their pay. im just gonna be the best at MY job and not try to do everyone else's.

i did it with a kid and my mom in the house. i just decompressed on my two 15s and my 30 minute lunch break (i watched steve wilkos - it was awesome). The pay was shit tho. thats the only reason i stopped. also, xbox was kind of stressful - so many things go wrong with the shitbox (dont get one) LOL
