  1. So you then.
  2. I hope this show is a huge success and all of the incels whining about it come down with apoplectic rage cancer. Unlikely, but a man can dream.
  3. You, uh, gonna explain how a "financial flop" garnered 8 seasons?
  4. I still haven't seen any of Haruhi, but personally I thought the concept of Endless Eight was goddamn hilarious. Like, if you're gonna do it, go whole hog.
  5. Comedy is something that can be especially culturally-dependent. A lot of Japanese comedy centers around the manzai routine, which honestly comes across as pretty painful to most Western audiences.
  6. Sweet, I can get even more caught up.
  7. Yes your shitty videos add so much to a conversation. How do I know it? Because it misrepresented the series from day one. One Piece is frequently silly and goofy, and Oda draws more than a little stylistic influence from classic Looney Tunes shorts, but it also plumbs some hefty emotional depths and is shockingly dark at times. It doesn't take all that long into the series for moments like that to start cropping up, either. I daresay that most people who fall in love with the series do so because of that aspect of it, and if a viewer never gets to experience that but instead suffers through spring-loaded guns and suction cups and murderous chakrams (wut) and people "staying in jail forever," they're not going to feel that draw
  8. The fact that few anime fans now have had personal experience with it doesn't mean that it didn't have a significant detrimental effect when it was first released and people were actually watching it on Toonami. This isn't a hard concept. And yet despite that setback it's proven to be a long-term success for FUNi.
  9. Because she's pathetically desperate for any shred of attention, even negative attention?
  10. I frequently disagreed with his philosophy on modding, but no one cared more about this bunch of weirdo misfits than he did.
  11. It's no worse than DBZ proper.
  12. I don't think I ever saw most of the last season, but this thing has me hype. What I really need to do is rewatch the whole damn thing in all the time I don't have.
  13. This doesn't surprise me in the least. Lazzo has always seemed like a massive cunt. If it weren't for Saturday nights and the occasional Venture season, I probably wouldn't have watched [as] for like the past 8 or 9 years.
  14. I mean I'll give you that the theme song has probably found its way into the general anime fan consciousness, but how many anime viewers today do you think have actually sat down and watched so much as a few minutes of the 4Kids dub?
  15. It's been more than a decade. The only people who are more than vaguely aware of that dub are old-school Toonami farts.
  16. Neither. Orange juice is my jam in the morning.
  17. I kind of have a toss-up between parts 2 and 4, but part 4 is really really good.
  18. In what alternate universe? FUNi acquired the license to OP in 2007 and started dubbing with the Jaya/Skypiea arcs to carry on with the then-current Toonami broadcast. They went back and started dubbing from the beginning of the series within a year or two. And no, companies don't dub and release several hundred episodes of a series "out of pity." The series has consistently been one of FUNi's top sellers.
  19. Man you really can't get any pussy can you.
  20. Haaa, our old wiki.
  21. Aren't modern Jeeps pretty much hot garbage other than the Wrangler?
  22. I think OP probably has a bit less natural widespread appeal than either Naruto or Bleach. Naruto benefits from starting out with its protagonist at a closer age to its target audience, and it plays the "ninjas are cool!" trope pretty straight from the get-go. Bleach has a darker/"edgier" aesthetic that it wears on its sleeve from the first episode. OP's artstyle is admittedly an acquired taste for a lot of people (it took me some time to come around myself), and its first few arcs are relatively lighthearted; I think Arlong Park is the first moment you see Oda really nail that perfect mix of pathos and triumph that he's honed to a razor's edge since. All of that being said, I agree with Queen that OP was massively hamstrung right from the get-go with how and where it was launched. Naruto and Bleach received top-notch dubs, while OP was saddled with...that. In a world where it premiered on Toonami with FUNi's dub from the very beginning? I think it would have had more than a decent shot to go fairly mainstream.
