Naruto Shippuden Episode 477 Discussion
rpgamer replied to CorbeauKarasu's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Weird that everyone is criticizing the extent of their "friendship," like.... that's half the damn point here. You can't judge their friendship on what you expect friends to actually be, because Sasuke is a bitch ass punk. A rival is the closest thing he understands to friends. Naruto's whole point, his entire character, is killing enemies and rivals with kindness. And a good beatdown is the only way Sasuke is going to understand the extent of their friendship. Just like with literally everyone else in the entire show, it's down to Naruto wearing him down. Honestly, it's just impressive that they kept this giant mecha chakra battle to just these two episodes. Respect for not dragging that out longer than it needed. ..I see after this there's a couple "mixed canon/filler episodes before one last batch of filler.. got a bad feeling "mixed canon" means "we'll replay the last bits of this fight before seguing into another pointless flashback."- 76 replies

Naruto Shippuden Episode 477 Discussion
rpgamer replied to CorbeauKarasu's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Catching up, and.. I'll just say it, last week's episode was better than any episode of Naruto had any right to be. I mean.. maybe not Sasuke's whole monologuing bit.. other than that part, it felt pretty solid. The flashbacks, such as they were, actually contributed to the setting in a meaningful way. If you only showed someone one singular episode of this show, and it was that episode..... you'd be setting an awful high bar that none of the rest live up to.- 76 replies

One Piece Episode 651 Discussion
rpgamer replied to CorbeauKarasu's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
I really dislike these episodes where fuckall happens while we dedicate time to backstory of a character you'll forget about once the arc is over. There's gotta be a more elegant way to incorporate some of this while still progressing what's actually happening. Whole episode could've been designated as filler and skipped with nothing significant lost.- 52 replies

2024 Presidential Elections: the schadenfreude commences
rpgamer replied to NewBluntsworth's topic in Current Events
The target voting base is getting old and hard of hearing (and senile... at best). So you kinda gotta shout out loud to be heard. -
Yeah, jumping straight into a marathon day maybe didn't help, could've been eased in with some others. Cow and Chicken was always very much a "small doses" show for me.
-
Yeah, that shit definitely needs closed. Like, sure, there's a logic to it. But, if you're hitting that period and needing forgiveness, chances are you're in no position to pay the taxes on it either.
-
Yeah, yeah, it'll help plenty, to be sure. Still, feels like a small first step that hopefully leads to more. I've also never been clear/certain on the whole discharged/forgiven thing after 20-25 years, and whether that just ends up hurting you on taxes instead..
-
Imagine taking out less than 12k in loans. That's like "gave up half-way through" money.
-
Dumping this here because why not Looks like Cow and Chicken are getting worked in now as well. And unlike the starting lineup, this one hasn't aged so well... not that it was great to begin with.
-
This was a known quantity from the start. Kid with a god complex, thought he could "kill all titans" at the age of 12 or w/e. I knew this ending was coming, and it's even more satisfying to hear the admission that this was all really stupid. I regret not dropping this show completely years ago.

Feels like it's no coincidence this song took until now to pop into my feed..... -
I began to wonder, watching last week, how much screentime Zoro would still have if you trimmed out all of the "you're going the wrong way" padding. Genuinely adds nothing at all but filling time.

That picture makes him look like a geriatric Karen. As if the stress of trying desperately to pretend he's not fucking everything up is finally catching up to him. Do you think he even remembers what he liked about twitter to want to buy it in the first place? Do you think he ever thinks about how he could still be enjoying a not-as-broken twitter if he just kept his dumbass mouth shut? I mean, sure, there's the theory that this is "all according to plan." And, yeah, maybe some decisions. But I'm less convinced he ever actually intended to tank one of the best platforms for him to leech attention off of everything. He could still have his own little corner of followers huffing his taint. But he's determined to double down on literally every decision he ever makes. -
Can't really refute any of that. I'm not so sure how much you were meant to be truly attached to any villagers, tho, as much as maybe just.. appreciating the village as a whole. An arc more about Irumyuui than anyone else. But, I mean, in the end, I enjoyed it, so naturally I'm gonna try to spin it for myself as getting something worthwhile out of it. Still, not wrong, in the long run, likely not really much importance to the story as a whole. I might also throw out, like.. it's definitely a funny series to get hung up on "attachment" to anything, really. Another thing the story does weird, the way Riko can just so casually toss everything aside and continue on deeper, knowing she'll never see any of these people again. There's a sadness in leaving and loss, but she's always able to look ahead with a smile. Knowing that, it's a bit of a feat that the show can manage to build up any attachment at all, flimsy as it may be.

Eh, I'm more on board with S2 for at least keeping on theme. I'm less invested in the adventure part, I see the story being more about finding the light of optimism amidst crushing despair, with a side helping of "sins of the past." But, the criticisms are definitely valid. Took a while for the threads to really start weaving together, and all told, pretty light on "progress." That's just, like... the whole show. =p But, is also some of its appeal. It's far from tame. Edgy, some would say. But, the story still tries to make some good come of it all. I'd say it's that juxtaposition, the gap between gruesome and wholesome, that works for drawing people in.

naruto Naruto Shippuden #465 Discussion
rpgamer replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Personal conspiracy: They were approaching the end episode somewhere in the high 400s and decided "let's just fluff this up a bit with some garbage to hit a cool 500." Knowing everything had been written, and thus, nothing new would be contradicting filler back-lore, they were free to just make up whatever they liked. -
dr. stone Dr. Stone Episode #47 (312) Discussion!!
rpgamer replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Criticism: Air tanks. Not oxygen tanks. At no point did they separate hydrogen/oxygen from water, they were just pumping in straight air. Which is good, because pure oxygen would've been no help. (also, while I can buy cobbling together a tank to pressurize, big doubt on just throwing together a regulator with whatever's on hand..) Plus the three of them could've easily just shared regulators, splitting up the air, to not rely on believing a) he could actually get a gulp of air off someone trying to speak without also inhaling a load of seawater, and b) that he could swim back to the surface on that one gulp while also carrying half a statue. Seriously, Senku, really shoulda planned ahead on a strategy to actually lift stone up from the seabed. Extra ropes to haul from the surface, and/or lift bags to add air to for help from buoyancy. Sand art ending is pretty cool, tho.- 43 replies
