Can't really refute any of that. I'm not so sure how much you were meant to be truly attached to any villagers, tho, as much as maybe just.. appreciating the village as a whole. An arc more about Irumyuui than anyone else. But, I mean, in the end, I enjoyed it, so naturally I'm gonna try to spin it for myself as getting something worthwhile out of it. Still, not wrong, in the long run, likely not really much importance to the story as a whole. I might also throw out, like.. it's definitely a funny series to get hung up on "attachment" to anything, really. Another thing the story does weird, the way Riko can just so casually toss everything aside and continue on deeper, knowing she'll never see any of these people again. There's a sadness in leaving and loss, but she's always able to look ahead with a smile. Knowing that, it's a bit of a feat that the show can manage to build up any attachment at all, flimsy as it may be.

Eh, I'm more on board with S2 for at least keeping on theme. I'm less invested in the adventure part, I see the story being more about finding the light of optimism amidst crushing despair, with a side helping of "sins of the past." But, the criticisms are definitely valid. Took a while for the threads to really start weaving together, and all told, pretty light on "progress." That's just, like... the whole show. =p But, is also some of its appeal. It's far from tame. Edgy, some would say. But, the story still tries to make some good come of it all. I'd say it's that juxtaposition, the gap between gruesome and wholesome, that works for drawing people in.

naruto Naruto Shippuden #465 Discussion
rpgamer replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Personal conspiracy: They were approaching the end episode somewhere in the high 400s and decided "let's just fluff this up a bit with some garbage to hit a cool 500." Knowing everything had been written, and thus, nothing new would be contradicting filler back-lore, they were free to just make up whatever they liked. -
dr. stone Dr. Stone Episode #47 (312) Discussion!!
rpgamer replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Criticism: Air tanks. Not oxygen tanks. At no point did they separate hydrogen/oxygen from water, they were just pumping in straight air. Which is good, because pure oxygen would've been no help. (also, while I can buy cobbling together a tank to pressurize, big doubt on just throwing together a regulator with whatever's on hand..) Plus the three of them could've easily just shared regulators, splitting up the air, to not rely on believing a) he could actually get a gulp of air off someone trying to speak without also inhaling a load of seawater, and b) that he could swim back to the surface on that one gulp while also carrying half a statue. Seriously, Senku, really shoulda planned ahead on a strategy to actually lift stone up from the seabed. Extra ropes to haul from the surface, and/or lift bags to add air to for help from buoyancy. Sand art ending is pretty cool, tho.- 43 replies

These are probably largely fixed in the "New UEMB Copy Test" theme, which seems to be the one made for making changes to nail things down without constantly changing things for users still on one of the older themes. Pretty sure the spaceships aren't so much a theme thing as a site thing, requiring digging into actual site code, if they can be removed at all.. (much like how I hate the sidebar creating a ton of empty space in large threads..)

It does cleanly wrap up the "Why is Hank blond?" question.. But it also caused me to consider.. I suppose you could make a case for that contributing as well to Hank's dichotomy of having delusions of heroism and villainy both. That makes Hank the grandson of Force Majeure. Certainly a plot thread any sequel (or fanfic) could follow up on..

Eh, is fair. I just didn't want to make a new thread for a one-off thought. I get it. Moving things over is tidy. There's really not so many special cases like this where it's a big event more than just a singular episode (since we don't really get movies anymore..). And we all know how rare it is for not-Action to generate any discussion besides..

Movie discussion got archived, so here works (srsly, archiving serial episodes I get, but.. eh) Debbie mentioned Rusty took her mom's invisibility and gave it to her, and Debbie gave him "..my stuff I wasn't planning on using using." Was the implication there that she never wanted kids and gave Rusty her ovaries or eggs or whatever he needed to create his artificial wombs for the boys?

Hm, yeah, I'd stick with it. I don't really interact with a great deal more of the site, so not much else to give input on.

I've been on the ASMB Vibes 2.0 theme, switching over to make notes. Personally, more a fan of the lighter grey for post backgrounds, a la ASMB. The black-on-almost-black is a bit much. On the other hand, the ASMB theme has the awful greenish yellow color for things like the top banner, new reply circles, etc. Literally anything is better than that. Blue thread title font is ok, think it's same/similar on all themes? But the green-on-hover is kinda clashy. Square vs circle avatars, not a huge difference, personal opinion and all. There's probably some design philosophy that says circles are more aesthetically pleasing or something. I'd probably lean more towards squares.

Maybe meant as a "new here, wave hello."

For fans of old school flash games, the Submachine series has just had a remastered re-release, whole compilation made with new game engine, runs as a more contiguous series. Everything is so much smoother, still the hand drawn art, tweaked puzzles, some new stuff. Just a really solid collection of games I've always appreciated for their style and design. Any kid that liked puzzle games and browsed the free flash sites probably caught wind of this being a big name in the genre. Just one of those indie games I've always enjoyed supporting.

A new reason I really hate the informative sidebar on the right of larger threads: The reply box gets squished into an ugly mess.

It's honestly remarkable how much filler they chose to blend into even the last handful of episodes of the series. Seeing a lot of "Mixed canon/filler" through most of the remainder (and two more filler arcs). Not even a moment of consideration for "hey, this is basically the big climax, maybe we shouldn't shit all over it."

Been seeing a new banana bread flavor lately, and it's not too bad, for pop tarts. I've been saying they needed a banana flavor for years. Now they just need to make a strawberry-banana combo. With choco frosting.

Are we definitely committed to the not-quite-yellow color of the top links and unread message circles and such? It's such a clashy color that doesn't mesh with anything... I mean, I sorta get/respect the nod to old ASMB styles that looked like ass, but... Appreciate putting posts on the grey background, tho. I like dark themes, but pure (or nearly) black background for everything was kinda its own strain.

Feature I've found that I'm not a huge fan of: Looks like if there's 2+ weeks between posts in a thread, the site will literally add a "2 weeks later.." insert between posts. Again, just more unnecessary empty space.

I forgot all about these guys. Definitely not my jam, but respect for the commitment. -
The worst part, as buddy pointed out, is that somewhere in those 30 minutes you still come to the conclusion that it must be some kind of gag, but it's just not a funny one. We're so used to [as] also being terrible that we just accept that sometimes the "so bad it's good" is really just bad.

Oh, and gifs.. we used to have a button for that in the post editor.. didn't we? I guess it's gone now? It kinda wasn't working for me for a while anyway, I suppose.
