  1. I see no problems with Mxy's design, personally, but I have no great opinions/attachments to the character. Going full chaos god mode tho, he did have a proper moment of terrifying and sinister. Overall, I enjoyed it. Good way to set itself apart from usual stories, establishing we're off on (yet another) alternate dimension Earth. Dropped probably a couple dozen DC references. Set itself up as a little bit bigger than the otherwise simple day-in-the-life of learning-his-powers Superman. Maybe a bit of a distraction from Cadmus, but that's probably a good thing.
  2. Hmmm... trying to think of where I already knew about that relationship. By the looks, I likely would've only seen/known him from Teen Titans and Young Justice as well. I guess is possible sometime back then I just happened to look them up to figure out who they were (and understand the difference between him and Grodd. >__>)
  3. Of course Ivo is still alive. He's fricken Professor Ivo. There's gotta be a 0% chance we won't see an AMAZO at some point. Although.. not sure how that'll work out against only Superman. Usually that's the sort of thing you kinda really need a whole Justice League to throw at it.
  4. That shot, of the sky changing color, that's exactly what always comes to mind when I hear Crazy Sunshine.
  5. Yeah, pretty sure this is genuinely established Mallah/Brain lore. Preeetttty sure they've been in some other animated stuff besides TTG. And yeah, naturally most would've assumed Grodd as the more recognizable gorilla. Kinda genuinely not enjoying Lois' reaction to the Superman reveal. "WHy diDN't yOU TEll mE EveryTHINg???!!!" Gee, Idunno, maybe because he's not human and that's not the sort of thing you just go blabbing to everyone?
  6. I shared in the other thread, but, well, since you linked the original, I gotta again share the mashup
  7. He's been listed in the credits, and the suit from this episode was a fair giveaway. General Wade Eiling's lore is also usually connected to Captain Atom, and has the same general motivation as Waller an the rest of the government getting involved in these things: "We want a military-controlled super-weapon just in case we need to fight Superman/heroes."
  8. Agent Slade Wilson. aka Deathstroke. The general is The General. I only really know the JLU version myself, tbh.
  9. For a moment I wondered why they didn't have Tom announcing they made an oops and why they were repeating this episode.. Then I remembered, everyone's on strike.
  10. Only credited as "The General," but I called it. Slade/Deathstroke felt pretty on-point here as well. And Waller being ruthless? Timeless.
  11. Found a fun little series of articles examining the themes and symbolism of FLCL episode by episode. https://ap2hyc.com/2017/03/symbolism-flcl-1x01-fooly-cooly/ They don't seem to link to each other, so might have to just search FLCL on the site for further reading. Thing I learned: When Canti eats Naota, he displays the kanji for "adult."
  12. Despite having the soundtracks, there's still something special about hearing the songs in context. And yeah. Hybrid Rainbow always evokes that image of Canti in the air with the crows.
  13. But he somehow remembers what he was called as a baby.
  14. As old as the cartridges are, chances are good all the saves deleted themselves. Always had trouble when I got the urge to play one or two of those games, they'd be a bit picky about whether or not they remembered having saves.
  15. My gut tells me one of the dudes next to her was General Wade Eiling. But that might just be my JLU bias..
  16. Why does young-Clark wear glasses before even discovering he has powers? Why does he wear glasses at all prior to being resigned to having an alter identity? My Krypton knowledge might be pretty sparse, but, kinda thought they were largely "normal" (mostly due to having red sun), yet Jor-El is depicted as a flying older Superman? I'll let the high tech spaceship thing slide, at least. It's a stretch, but.. doesn't completely ruin anything yet. If you're going to throw in an anime costume transformation scene, you really gotta crank up the gratuitous fanservice, c'mon. Anyway. It's an origin story, which I'm never stoked on. But, I did catch in the credits, kinda nice to see Chris Parnell getting a role that isn't a total sad sack. Evidently, Mr. Black Ops was Slade. Ok, we can roll with that. And the cameo of Waller at the end, I can get down with. Ultimately, not knowing the Super-history super well, kinda wondering/hoping this is at least pulling from.. some actual source material? And not going crazy overboard with retcons. Otherwise, you kinda start alienating some of the comic book audience you're trying to target by deviating from established lore. Does sorta need to tone down the moe moe flirty omg they're totally crushing each other stuff, tho. Cute stuff is cute.. sure fine, sprinkle it in here and there for whatever. But, again, feels like a disservice to the core Superman audience you're trying to catch?
  17. What the FF7 Remake should've been. I'll take an entire new game in Neo-Midgar any day over what we got...
  18. Finally noticed Hulu has the dub up. Time to give it a go. Animation certainly.. takes some getting used to. Not bad.. but certainly a big departure from the original. Music seems like the bigger miss, tho. Show has a whole different vibe without that steel guitar. Guess they wanted a departure from space western.... Likewise maybe dropped the ball on just dumping so much exposition in episode 1. So much info that worked so much better as a slow reveal.. similarly not keen on letting Vash show off his shooting (even if it is just one bullet) in the first episode. It spoke so much about his character in the original that he didn't fire a single bullet until episode 5. I guess, exposition-wise, it at least does sorta help set up important elements like the Plants, and the planet's predicament, even if the Knives reveal was maybe far too early.. And, maybe just me, or maybe just the passage of time, but it did take a minute to really start to hear that old Vash. Maybe the character's just got a different tone from the original even. Idk.. Just sorta lacking that subtle sense of Vash being/acting like an absolute lunatic goofball.. maybe for the best as episodes go on, will see. Maybe too I just need to take this more in a FMA:Brotherhood-type approach, where they know the original already set the stage, and this is just diving straight into the meat of it.
  19. You, uhh.... already spilled the beans a while ago....
  20. Haahh. A blink-and-you-miss-it, they left in some of the frame/animation info or something during the transition after the power up, before "We've broken inside." "Property of Cartoon Network Studios" is almost cut off at the bottom. Whatever it's from is listed as 11070 10_354.mov
  21. Ok, but here's my eternal question: Do werewolves grow extra nipples when they transform? Or do they just always have extra nipples even when they're human?
  22. So, if I'm seeing right, fully half the block starting this week is dedicated to reruns? Eesh. I'm probably incredibly biased, cuz I've fully tuned it out and can't actually speak for the quality.. but I wouldn't be shocked if Naruto is also in some ways at the root of this, being in one last burst of filler hell. Looks like thankfully that will be coming to an end in a couple months or so at least; maybe getting back to canon can bring back some energy.. In general tho, as nice as it's been to have some big names on the block, maybe it'd be worth looking to cultivate more of a "cult classic" feel. Clearly they're not able to pick up new stuff very well or very often. So why not look back to find some sleeper hits. Sure that runs the risk of hitting a "that's old, people have already seen it" etc. But, idk. They could maybe pull off finding a few things that have those dedicated audiences, things that didn't catch the right attention and maybe just need a wider reach to catch on. Orrr, they're old and the reason they're not popular is because they're just not very good..
