Well, apparently the person in a FB (?) chat who was supposedly trying to get people to photoshop fake evidence against him turned out to be a false flag by someone who'd either hijacked the person's account or spoofed it, it's not clear which. The photo evidence of the alleged swatting was apparently recycled from a previous swatting (??!) from 2016 where she said the police broke down her door. I suppose that could be faked too, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to know how to tell. Even if it were proven to be faked and her story was proved true, it wouldn't matter, now that they've gotten the fake version circulating. So maybe score one fake for each side? I dunno. I do know what I see in those con pictures and believe they felt how they said they felt, having been on the receiving end of shit like that myself. I just wish the dudebros who couldn't care less about Vic but saw an opportunity to go back into full gamergate bitches-be-lyin' mode hadn't gotten involved.

I think that statement is what happened to that. That's got "lawyered up" written all over it. No admission of guilt or that he was aware he was in the wrong, and no real apology. "It's impossible for me to discern other people's boundaries." Bullshit. Ask them, doofus. And maybe draw some boundaries of your own as to what's appropriate. @ RPD: I think someone already said this, but it's not "he said, she said," it's "he said, she and she and he and she and she and she and she and she and she and she and he and she and he and she and she and she and she and she and she and she and she and she and she and she and she and she and she and she and she said."

Looks like he's been creeping on high school girls for 30 years. You can practically feel her disgust rolling off the page. Lol, his resume says he was a cop in MD. Looks like all he did was make training videos and such A/V work for them, though he says he "performed the duties of a police officer." My ass. Anyway, even if his anime career's over, he's got plenty of fall back lines of work, like audiobooks, commercials, training videos, and crap like that. He's not going to end up panhandling over this. Then again, if Louie CK is any indication, he'll be back in the booth in a year or less.

I think the narrative is that she's accusing him because she wanted his behind the scenes jobs, like writing or directing or whatever. But it's weird that he cites that it would've been fine if Sabat or Schemmel took those jobs, even though both of them, especially Sean, have landed on Vic with both boots. It's apparently only bad if women take harassers' jerbs. I seem to have missed where Monica finally said what her story was other than "it happened to me," let alone how it's been "proved" false. One of the things I noticed in a lot of the photos, even of apparently happy fans, is not just that he puts an arm around them or lays a hand on their shoulder, but that he's got them in an iron grip on both shoulders or upper arms. It's a very possessive, controlling approach, especially when he's behind them. Even if you were up for a peck on the cheek, that would make most people uncomfortable. It's also beyond creepy that he uses his fan club as unpaid labor to sell his merch at cons, staffing tables, collecting money for him and handing it over to him at the end of the day. He had so many chances to change his behavior but didn't, and even then I might've been willing to cut him some last-chance slack if his apologies sounded genuinely contrite and sincere, but despite his being an actor he couldn't even pull that off. He still either doesn't think he did anything wrong, or he firmly believes he's entitled to behave that way because he's a "star." I imagine he can still find work in games, since the dudebros will be on his side and happy to support his work just to pwn the sjws.

That's what I always thought, but damn, he sure has been throwing shade at Vic in some texts and tweets. Not sure what to believe on that front, other than they all seem pretty two-faced.

Todd's not doing all that great at the moment either. #kickTodd

What Comics, Webcomics Are you Reading Currently
Gina Szanboti replied to J.M. Matthews's topic in Arts, Literature & Music
Love Advice from the Great Duke of Hell is the funniest thing I've read in ages. I love everything about it, from the art style and the extraordinary facial expressions to the framing of the images. The plot twists are brilliant and always catch me by surprise, and fit together like a madman's puzzle box. And all the pieces that seem like one-off jokes have a way of showing up later on in hilarious ways. I'm sitting here laughing just thinking about it. It's absolutely brilliant. I can't recommend it enough. Go read it now. -

I like chibi Pouf's happy face, and I'm still trying to figure out why Youpi wears a rugby helmet, but it's cute on his chibi form too. -

rants Haters/Complainers: Legacy of Spleen
Gina Szanboti replied to mthor's topic in General Discussion
I can't stay awake. No matter how uncomfortable a position I'm in, I get about 3 paragraphs into reading an article and I'm gone. I don't like this. -
Haven't watched it yet, but I really like the original title of "My Housemate Is on My Lap, But Sometimes on My Head." I thought it was ecchi until I found out the housemate was a cat.

You mean the right click on the file I want to scan? I tried that, but there's no option. I guess I could try uploading the file somewhere and then downloading it to see if it still gets flagged. If not, that would mean the site is just on google's shitlist for hosting files with malware (though they claim to scan uploads), or someone just troll reporting them. I guess if I just open the file Malwarebytes will quarantine it at that point, right?
-
So is there a way to scan a specific file for malware? I've got Malwarebytes, but as far as I can tell that only scans the system and not files, and has no option for scanning files on a Mac. Am I misunderstanding that? I know they've said outright custom scans of individual files are neither available nor a priority for them to implement on the Mac software, but are they scanned during a regular scan? Since the new year Firefox has been giving me malware warnings on downloads but I don't think they're infected unless the lockers are adding it when they're uploaded (which would be stupid if it's even possible), and I'm not seeing complaints in the forum. MWB sez scans are ok, but if it's not scanning files I haven't launched, that's meaningless. I've read that Firefox just tags files from sites that have been reported to google as possible malware sites, but the site itself doesn't trigger an alert. FF sez they "may" sent metadata to google to verify or something, but the message is no different from what you get if they're just going by general reports. Also, any guesses as to why I can't see pictures on imgur's site (I have to open Safari to view them), but they show up if someone embeds them, and why I can't see videos on Crunchyroll's new html5 player on either browser?

rants Haters/Complainers: Legacy of Spleen
Gina Szanboti replied to mthor's topic in General Discussion
I hate 12 hours of 45 mph winds. Even without having my old tree to worry about falling on the house anymore, I still tense up every massive gust that sounds like a freight train coming at me. I'm fine to 25 mph, but when it's 30 and above, I'm a nervous wreck. I grew up in an old, old house with literally foot thick stone walls and inch thick old growth planks for any wood parts (there were 12 in logs in the ceiling of the basement), so the wind didn't bother me. If a tree fell on the house, it would just break the tree. Tornadoes just went around and moved on to easier sport. I guess it's not the wind I'm afraid of, but rather this flimsy house. -
Actually, we kinda already do. I'm pretty sure I could buy that jacket off the rack right now, sans capsule. Or maybe with, I dunno.

ANN just promoted a Happy Science movie
Gina Szanboti replied to Chapinator_X's topic in Anime & Manga
Macdonald's response to the dust up: "I've removed the advertorial from ANN. The advertorial was purchased by a regular client and our sales team was not informed that it was for a religious propaganda movie. Only the team member who received the advertorial from the client and uploaded it became aware of its content. This team member was not aware of the history or controversy surrounding the content and had never been made aware of ANN's position on not promoting religious or political propaganda. "I personally apologize for this last bit. It had never occurred to me while training this new team member (it's something that comes up extremely rarely) when they took these duties over from me. This was a mistake on my part, and I will address it by updating our long out of date written advertising policy in the coming months." I can see how that could happen. It doesn't seem far-fetched that knowledge of Happy Science could fly under the radar of someone on the sales side. I appreciate that he took responsibility and didn't offer a "sorry if anyone was offended" non-apology. -
So what are your choices for the Best of 2018?
Gina Szanboti replied to Chapinator_X's topic in Anime & Manga
Well it certainly went out with a bang (that we can not show you!) and a high kick. Even the zawa chorus got in a dither over it all. -
My Sentai order arrived yesterday. So even if you order from Sentai, they have rightstuf ship it? I saw on the package that it was from RSI, so I was confused when it was the Sentai order. That's funny. Now the question is, if rightstuf can make time in their busy holiday season to ship my Sentai order already, why can't they ship my rightstuf order that fast? Haven't heard a peep except to acknowledge the order.

So what are your choices for the Best of 2018?

Recovery of an MMO Junkie was 2017, but I agree with you for loving it. Just bought it on BD myself. Magical Girl Ore started out but got weak in the middle, but kinda redeemed itself in the last couple of crazy episodes. I'm telling you Cidz, if you want relaxing comedy after work, you gotta watch School Babysitters and How to raise a mummy. Both are excellent and cute as all get out. Also Jingai-san no Yome (see my post above), if you're pressed for time and need a quick fix of silly mofumofu. -
So what are your choices for the Best of 2018?
Gina Szanboti replied to Chapinator_X's topic in Anime & Manga
Edited from my ANN list, in no order: Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens I loved all the characters and was impressed with how intricate the plot was without ever pulling dei of the machina variety out of their asses. Everything was properly foreshadowed and almost all the plot threads were neatly tied up at the end, with the danglers perhaps inviting another season. Hinamatsuri One of the funniest things I watched all year, it could still rip your heart out in a flash, then turn on a dime and make you laugh through the tears. A lot of original and creative ideas going on in this one. Megalo Box This one had me from the OP and never backed off the throttle. Run with the Wind One of the best surprises of the year, what I thought was just going to be another shounen sports anime about the power of friendship carried forward on two (or 20) feet (which it is, of course), has turned out to be a delightful character study of a bounty of fascinating people. I love them all, and I love the natural, slow building of their relationships and progress. So glad it's 2 cour. I think I'd happily follow them for 4. Thunderbolt Fantasy 2 The most fun you can have with over-dressed puppets! Watching Vape Wizard get pwned because his target was even more of a slime than he realized was the highlight of the season. That and the touching tale of a man utterly devoted to his bloodthirsty lady sword. Angels of Death I was unprepared for how invested I got in these psychopaths and their murder games. Not usually my cuppa tea, but the main couple were just so great together. The series only suffered when they kept them apart. Dragon Pilot: Hisone and Masotan What a quirky idea, and a delightful execution. Someone mentioned facial expressions, and they weren't exaggerating by half. Though not quite to the extent of Hinamatsuri, it achieves the dual goals of heartwarming and hilarious. Hakumei and Mikochi This one nearly booted Megalobox off my top 5 (had to flip a coin), which is funny because they hardly occupy the same niche. I'm a big fan of The Borrowers, and this scratches a similar itch for miniature things. Like Megalobox and this series, the title characters couldn't be more different, and how they get along and get on each other's nerves is utterly charming. Though I mostly identify with the practical and rough-edged Hakumei, Mikochi complements her perfectly. And the costuming and scenery are to die for. This is what iyashikei anime should be. How to keep a mummy/School Babysitters These are the Bobbsey Twins of Sweetness and Light and it would be cruel to separate them. I adore them both, delirious as I remain from the overdose of warm fuzzies. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime It's just really pleasant to watch and I'm thoroughly enjoying Let's Play "Civilization": the Anime. Honorable mentions: Devils' Line Another big surprise. I came for a time-wasting vampire anime and got a slow burning romance and conspiracy series. The heroine took a lot of getting used to, but I actually warmed up to her after she started becoming a little more assertive. Unfortunately, the ending got pureed in a whirlwind wrapup, like someone pulled the plug and only bothered to tell them 3 days before the finale was due. Frankenstein Family Hate this English title (I first knew it as Creature Family Days). This is an obscure and weird little piece which sadly doesn't really end, but it's engaging along the way and pretty creative. Hinomaru Sumo This one gets a shout-out just for making huge, nearly naked guys body-slamming, head-butting, and just slapping the shit out of each other interesting. This is so far away from my wheelhouse I can't even, but I keep watching with anticipation. Jingai-san no Yome This precious little short just makes me squee with its adorableness. The first episode was a wth letdown due to half of its 3-min run time being used for the OP, but with the basic premise, what there is of one, out of the way, it was my weekly dose of feel-goodness. It doesn't make a lick of sense, and doesn't need to, but if it can't elicit at least one "awww" per episode, or a sigh of regret over not having one of these alien husbandos in your life, you're dead inside. While I'm at it, Best Characters: Zack (Angels of Death) A psychopathic, and nearly indestructible serial killer, Zack was the life of the series. He was hilarious when he was being grouchy, touching when coping with his own PTSD, and poignant in his honorable devotion to Rachel. But I think the thing that stabbed my heart the most about him was that he couldn't read, and this bothered him, as much as he tried to pretend it didn't matter. That was a subtlety of characterization that totally caught me off guard, and impressed the hell out of me. Prince (Run with the Wind) Everyone on the team would qualify for my Best Characters list, but I'll limit it to Ouji, my spirit animal. Clad in an amusing assortment of mood tees, he may run like a goofy Titan, but he gives his all, and never gives up, public humiliation be damned. He may be a spindly little guy, devoutly wishing to become incorporeal, but he has a defiant otaku heart. Narrator (Mr. Tonegawa) He totally makes this series. I've never heard anyone have so much fun with narrating a series before. It's also really jarring, in a funny way, when he spits out English words (like "Number Two!" in the OP intro) with perfect American pronunciation. Have a listen to the beginning of the first episode and see for yourself. And consider that what you hear there is the most restrained his narration will ever be in the series. -
Obligatory end of the year BEST ANIME OF 2018 LISTS
Gina Szanboti replied to PowerKing's topic in Anime & Manga
I'm still a little hesitant to call it a harem, as in naming that as its genre. There's no arguing that it doesn't have harem elements, but they seem to be more fan-service than genre-service. Harem anime usually revolve around the MC and his/her harem, with some side characters sometimes thrown in. But Slime has a whole host of other characters of equal or greater importance than Rimiru's small harem, all of whom adore him, unless they're the villains. And the main storyline isn't about him deciding on which lovely lass to hook up with at all. It's got much bigger fish to fry. At most, the harem elements are just comedy relief and eye candy more than anything. -
Obligatory end of the year BEST ANIME OF 2018 LISTS
Gina Szanboti replied to PowerKing's topic in Anime & Manga
I wouldn't say "This is amazing!!!!1!" But it is really pleasant, and I enjoy watching it every week. That's more than I can say for most of the genre, which are either OP MCs in the service of bloodbaths and angst and being badass, OP/over-9000-luck MCs who don't do anything but hang out being OP and nice, or OP MCs with a gimmick instead of a plot. Slime is a nice OP MC who does things, and has adventures in literal world building, and has a gimmick, and has a very intricate plot gradually being woven. It can be bloody when it needs to be, but that's not its hook. So yeah, it's different from what it appears to be, and I like it a lot. And Ranga is a very good boy, yes he is. -
Overjoyed over here. I have to say I found ANN's wording in their news item a tad brow-raising though. "A stage presentation at the Jump Festa '19 event revealed on Saturday that Haruichi Furudate's Haikyu!! manga is inspiring a new television anime series. The staff at the event did not specifically call the new series a fourth season." Why even say that? What else would it be, a reboot?? I just hope all the original staff is returning for it.

Ok, so I finally got Ajin Season 2 and Tanaka-kun over at Sentai, which were only $33 even with the shipping added. At rightstuf I picked up Black Butler Book of the Atlantic, MMO Junkie and pre-ordered Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens. That's enough stuff I won't open until 2020 or so...

I don't curl up with man babies either, no matter how often they're changed.
