  1. Ok, so the transcripts of the TCPA hearing have been acquired, and here are excerpts and commentary from some of the Law Twitter gang. https://twitter.com/questauthority/status/1172642897566609409 (Marchi) https://twitter.com/questauthority/status/1172947630751662080 (Rial/Toye) https://twitter.com/questauthority/status/1173299507003568130 (FUNimation) It's interesting, minimally snarky, except where things get so terrible he can't help himself. Plenty of hilarity and flabbergast to go around, but this exchange had me laughing my ass off: THE COURT: And how much money did he lose on all of those? MR. BEARD: Oh boy, that I can answer. So Mr. Mignogna -- it's hard to give you an exact number. THE COURT: Well, you said, boy, I can answer that one. I thought you were giving me an exact answer. MR. BEARD: No, no, that's not it, Your Honor. THE COURT: Oh, I was looking forward to it. Given his folksy use of y'all from the bench, I can just hear the deadpan disappointment in his Texas drawl. This whole case reminds me greatly of My Cousin Vinny.
  2. I liked it. It looked good and I enjoyed wallowing in the despair of its dystopia.
  3. Wait, twisting it was fatal?! Wow, I mean, poor technique, sure, but I wouldn't expect it'd be lethal.
  4. I take it you survived then? How did the milk taste? Was it as awful as Scoob said? Are you going to try the tablets next, so you can indulge anywhere? Inquiring minds...
  5. Ok, I'll agree with the building codes thing. There should be two exits from every room, not blocked by stuff. That wouldn't even be that expensive of a retrofit. Mental health services is much more difficult. You can't force people to become therapists, and it would take time to educate even those who want to enter the field. But that's a cultural shift of huge proportions, and even the US, with our high per capita number of therapists and psychiatrists, do a lousy job of it. It's taken a few generations of PSAs just to reduce the stigma around mental illness here, and yet it's still stigmatized and undertreated. And there's also the cultural conflation of violence with mental illness. We assume mentally ill people are violent, and that their violence is caused by mental illness. There is an intersection of the two in some individuals, but mentally ill people are not usually predisposed to violence any more than anyone else, and being violent can simply mean you're a hateful bastard. You don't need to be sick to be a cruel asshole. You can also be mentally ill without that illness being the cause of your being a violent asshole. It's complicated, and we're far from recognizing that across society.
  6. What tells me it's fake is that the audio is perfect instead of sounding like a tin can, and the resolution seems way higher than any cctv footage I've ever seen. Usually you can barely make out what they're recording, or at best they're really grainy, but this is practically HD.
  7. What do you want them to do, outlaw gasoline?
  8. You can still read it if you're not logged in.
  9. Since you seem to have an interest in mecha, I really think you'd enjoy Planet With. Read the synopsis and watch it. I can't explain it, it's so weird. But every piece of weirdness has a purpose and locks into place in one of the most tightly written and executed series I've ever seen. Vinland Saga is pretty good. I'm not quite as crazy about it yet as I'd expected to be, but it's early in the story. Hisone and Masotan is pretty great. Goofy dragon mecha for the win! See also my recs in moonmaster3's thread.
  10. Arguing that he's not at least a Limited Purpose Public Figure was silly to begin with, when half of the complaint is that the defendant's actions cost him money from public appearances where people come specifically to see him and get his autograph. They did that before all this hit. Tons of people nationwide don't pay to see people who aren't celebrities/public figures of some sort, or pay to get their autograph, or create fan clubs for them. If cons announced you as a guest, people would go, "Who?" When cons announced Vic was a guest, people went, "I gotta go meet him!" The judge just remarked that the packed courtroom was enough evidence, knowing that all the other evidence they were preparing to show on that point, like the GFM, was already in their filings and would just confirm what his eyes were telling him.
  11. So many questions... Nah, I'm out.
  12. I see. So you're saying I need to do more than lol to signal that I got the joke and thought it was funny, because I tried to figure out what he actually said after the humor wore off? Ok, do I need more smiley faces or maybe gifs of women eating salad while laughing? Benny Hill music? We aim to please!
  13. Can't tell if you have no sense of humor or you think I don't. Probably the latter. Or maybe puns are beneath you? What can I say, I'm just part of the ignorant masses. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  14. Lol. I think what he's saying is, "They killed 'em, man, they helped me out." As in, "you really killed that audition." But it got your attention, so it worked out.
  15. That's the only one I know, outside Cowboy Bebop.
  16. The fact that you had to yield to an oncoming car should've been your first clue that it was a bona fide left turn, however slight it may be.
  17. Oh, google translate. I tried page translation and kept coming across people having worked on something called "Shape of the Samurai." I could not imagine what that was, so I copied the characters (聲の形) and just fed them to Translate, which yielded "形shape" in English. oO After listening to the lady pronounce it, I finally figured out it was "A Silent Voice," which in Japanese I guess is "The Shape of the Voice" or so. Apparently google was just pulling the 士 radical (samurai) out of 聲 (koe/voice) and running with that. smh I guess I'll wait for ANN to do their follow up in depth for these people and their work.
  18. One more, behind the scenes. "Show me your hole." You monster, isn't he scarred enough already?!
  19. Lol, his mom's name is Patty.
  20. Maybe in SoCal. Oh ffs, Skyrizi? Are you kidding me? That's stupider than Mavyret. And its generic name is even worse: "risankizumab-rzaa." Do they have a panel of Klingons naming drugs now? Also, why is Humira pronounced "hyoo-mair-uh" when it's spelled with an 'i'? Shouldn't it be "hyoo-meer-uh"?
  21. @ tsar: A Keanu forest. (so seamless it's better fullscreen.)
  22. Yeah, ok, but that's not Popeye's being gangsta, that's Popeye's planning poorly and being sold out, and hangry fools acting like fools. Not really on my radar of most interesting things. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Maybe if they'd been running news teasers during commercial breaks 40 times an hour like the box ads, it would've been. But that's the only reason I was thinking about Popeye's at all, since I can't go eat there anyway. Nevertheless, this doesn't surprise me, since these are the same people who thought it was a good idea to put 5 fucking pieces of chicken in a box intended for 2 people. They're probably just promoting it for 2 though, as cover for people who are going to eat the whole box themselves. Btw, I kept forgetting to reply to this: "came directly to this page without seeing anything else." UEB wasn't the first site I came to when it got cool enough to log on, but do you normally hit up google first thing? I have a handful of pages I cruise through to see what's up, but search engines are none of them.
  23. Admittedly, part of this has to do with my needing to have the font zoomed, so I don't see whole headlines. But until almost the bottom of the page, there's nothing there to indicate a battle worth looking into, unless I'm deliberately looking into it. The Vice video is the exception, but that wasn't there when I posted (I had done a search during the first post to see what else was in the $10 box). Probably because I specifically searched the box deal. And dude, you think a box deal or a chicken sandwich is "gangsta"? I was expecting to find some running gun battles in the bayou over chicken recipes or strong-arming franchisees or some serious shit like that, not a fucking Twitter war.
