My theory is that the percentage of immortals increased through attrition of the mortals due to desertification, and famines and poverty and conflicts generated by such. Most of the only people left were the rich immortals, and the rich mortals who were thinking about taking the cure for death. Would've been nice if they'd clarified that though. Maybe the price just went down, since the demand dropped as more people became immortal, since it's not like you need to do it more than once. Your guess is as good as mine.

If I'd known you were in the market, I'd have sold you mine.

I agree with the second part, but it was in no way good. I don't even know where to begin with how stupid the backstory turned out to be. But just sticking with the "present-day" story, if APE is sending them out on their final mission (which if it succeeds, parasites won't be needed anymore, and if it fails, this bunch is all dead, making the promise to free them moot either way), why go to the trouble to quash two parasites playing at getting married, bothering to wipe their memories of it, and not bothering to wipe the rest of their unit's memories of it? There's such a short window for it to be dangerous to their worldview that it's not dangerous at all. Looks like we're going to get a bit of the old incest jammed into the story now too, since Dr. F is almost certainly 02's father, and Hiro is likely his clone. Oy.

The wedding dress material nearly killed me. "That dress looks gorgeous!" "Thank you. I saw it in the window and I just couldn't resist it."

Oh god, I'm still dying over this. Succinct and to the point! This is much more fun than elsewhere, where people are arguing that somehow heterosexuals have historically been as oppressed for being straight as homosexuals for being gay, because of anti-miscegenation and one-child laws, and honor killings.

Well, the last episode of the second season of Spirit Pact aired today. @mochi if you can make it through the first season, you might actually like the second one. It's still as ridiculously convoluted as the first, and Tanmoku Ki still coughs up blood to punctuate his sentences (but they actually make a back-handed reference to that in series, which was hilarious, as well as a major plot point!), but they're quite a bit bolder with the soul-mate thing and kissing, even if they still avoid the main issue by couching it all in supernatural terms. I.e., they do both seem to really care about each other as people and equals and not just as spirit master and spirit shadow. And overall, I thought it was just executed better, and more interesting overall. It looks like the want a third season, given the ending, so now's your chance to catch up in case they get one. Since it's a Chinese gig, I don't think it will ever get more explicit than kissing. I'm surprised they got that much by the censors.

A tribute to Special Week, the protagonist of Uma Musume
Gina Szanboti replied to Chapinator_X's topic in Anime & Manga
Here's all of Suzuka's races. The last one is first, starting about a min in. I don't know why the start of the race is so foggy! Watch full screen, because they do horizontal split screens while they're focusing on the pack, and you'll want to see the whole field up top. They finally come back to him full screen just as he comes out from behind that tree and bam. I watched some of the other races. I've never seen a horse race run clockwise before, and it's really weird. Also, at about 29-30 min in, apparently one of the horses lost his jockey right out of the gate and ran the whole race alone. You gotta watch that one. It's the only one I really, really wanted subtitles for! -

I know, I love the phones. Episode 7 So they don't shoot horse girls, do they. It was interesting how closely they adhered to the actual race. In the video I saw, Suzuka was just booking it and leaving everyone else way back in the dust, then on that last turn he stumbled, and you could see his jockey fighting to pull him up asap because he still really wanted to run. Very sad. He barely got him off the track before the other horses caught up and nearly ran over him. Had he not had such a commanding lead, it could easily have turned into one ugly pileup. I thought they might do an end card for Special Week, but they didn't. Maybe too much rl sadness for one episode to carry. -

Yes, Gold Ship. I dunno, she just reminds me of a bell hop or a 30s cigarette girl. It doesn't matter if people follow racing, they just like horse girls, just like they like cat girls and monster girls. Kentucky Derby this Saturday! -

And Special Week and Silence Suzuka were half brothers of the same sire (Sunday Silence). I wonder if Suzuka is going to break her leg in the Tennoshou... If so...will she be put down? Who's the one who dresses like a bellhop? No one ever seems to call her by name, and I don't want to go back to watch the beginning again. @ Elfie: Well, they're all real horses, and I don't know the ratio of living namesakes to dead ones, but I think they should've stuck with all being the latter. -

Old age? From what I could gather via googletrans, it seems like he crashed in the pasture and injured his hip, and when they later went to check on him, he'd died. The tweets seem to understand it as due to this accident rather than age. 23 isn't all that old these days, at least for horses well-cared for. He could've lived another decade easily. When you think about the premise of the series, it's kind of weird to be using still-living horses as namesakes. This just kinda highlights that weirdness. It's like Spe-chan prematurely sucked out his soul or something. -
Movie sequels that really shouldn't have been made
Gina Szanboti replied to pail's topic in Movies & Television
All the Rambos after First Blood. All 14 Air Bud(dies) movies, including the first one. At least they haven't ruined Bullitt with a sequel or remake. Yet. They keep wanting to though, so it's probably only a matter of time. -
Good Comedy/Slice of Life this season
Gina Szanboti replied to CaptainStarwind's topic in Anime & Manga
Wotaku and Hinamatsuri are the best ones this season. Mahou Shoujo Ore is...weird but actually kinda funny. Saiki K. is still going, but you should probably watch that from the start as it keeps adding characters. Uchuu Senkan Tiramisu is mildly amusing, ymmv. It's short. Hoozuki no Reitetsu is also ongoing, but if you watch a few episodes of the first season, you could probably jump in about anywhere. -
For people who hate sports anime y'all are sure crazy for stats. I think you guys are focused on the wrong Thunderbolt. The "questionable" slot will go to Thunderbolt Fantasy, the most badass action, decapitating, dismembering, blood-spraying, sword-and-vapery puppets this side of China, scripted by the Booch himself. (Yeah, I know it hasn't been licensed for anything but streaming and there's no dub, but no one knows anything yet, so I can still dream)

Is Zero Two becoming more human? Because the cuts on her fingers from biting at her claws were red, not blue, at least on my monitor... And they kept showing us her hands, like we should notice.

That gleam in his eye when he's happy. ::melts:: So I guess no surnames in this dystopic future, huh, not even for citizens. One thing weirding me out is that the old guy's eye patch looks like he's got a hole in his head. Oh, and holy cow, does this have a great soundtrack. And that OP - it's so nice to hear something distinct from the usual interchangeable fare.

I thought the last episode was excellent, especially the storybook inclusion in the ED. I'm still waiting to find out why Dr. Franx has one oni horn.

I don't like rl boxing, and I don't much like anime boxing either, but just the first shot of the pebbles on the barren ground made me sit up in my chair, and I was already all in for whatever ride they were going to take me on. There wasn't one thing I didn't like about the first episode, from the fantastic music to the Cowboy Bebop esthetic (including JD's resemblance to Spike), and Yoshimasa Hosoya's world-weary but caramel voice is just the icing on the cake. The retro look of the animation with the sharpness of modern techniques left me drooling. With the show-don't-tell story construction, so much world-building was packed into this one episode without having to say much of anything about it. E.g., JD running his fingers along the bloodstained wall spoke volumes without a word. This premier was so good, I'm afraid of it - usually starts like this end in bitter disappointment when everything falls apart.

Boys' toys are getting weirder and weirder

Wow, was that June Foray yelling "They're about to attack!" in that Dino ad? -
Animated people are prettier than real ones. Their faces also express emotion better. I don't like real people, so I don't enjoy watching them on tv or in movies, except for some fantasies like Marvel and DC movies. I can barely stand to watch live action anything anymore. I don't go to movies in theaters because it's too expensive and I can't make it work with public transportation hours (even seeing a matinee requires a 6-7 hour chunk of the day). Even stuff I'd like to watch on tv I can't find because Comcast's search function sucks, as does my google fu. Basically it's way too much work to try to figure out if/when it's on, I forget to even look for it, and I won't ppv to watch it. I like anime better than domestic cartoons (except Avatar, which might as well be anime) because domestic are either Pixar or Disney, which all look exactly like everything else Pixar or Disney puts out (I'll still watch those though), or are hideous looking edgy crap like adult swim's animated comedies like say Super Jail (except Venture Bros, which is great), or are just ugly cartoons, e.g., Rick and Morty (which is a good comedy, but ugly) or King of the Hill (good stories, but again, ugly artwork) or Family Guy which is just ugly, period. Japan can certainly indulge in ugly too, like Pop Team Epic (esp. Bob Epic Team), but mostly anime is more aesthetically pleasing to me.

I expect something like that to happen, since this reminds me of God Eater with mechs instead of living swords/guns. Or at least the monsters remind me of it, since they behave almost exactly the same way.

Japanese Pair Team Skates to Yuri on Ice Song
Gina Szanboti replied to ben0119's topic in Anime & Manga
I hate that the IOC suppresses all the video, but won't make it available even on their own sites. Hopefully I can catch it Tuesday, though it won't be as fun not being the first time. -
They're together so little that it's kind of a moot point. The scene above is pretty gay, because vampires, but it doesn't happen until the last few episodes of the series. All their other time together is mostly flashbacks of when they were kids, and the rest of the time they're just angsting about finding each other again, with continual near-misses. Cause you know, they be fam. Star-crossed, but fam still.
