discolé monade Posted April 22 Posted April 22 A few weeks ago, President Trump shared a video on his Truth Social account that said Warren Buffett called Trump’s economic moves “the best he’d seen in 50 years.” That would certainly be quite the endorsement from the world’s most famous investor.Of course, as you probably expect, Buffett never said that. In fact, he hasn’t anything about Trump’s tariff rollercoaster that has created chaos and uncertainty in the stock and bond markets, and overall confusion in the broader economy. 1 3 Quote
Jman Posted May 1 Posted May 1 https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c807n4rnmjyo.amp As Tariffs ruin everything, including potentially Christmas, Trump once again does what he does best, double down, go “Nuh uh!” and claim he needs more time. 2 Quote

Tax incentives and the like are what’s needed, but states can do that while tariffs can be unilaterally imposed, hence his love affair with them. This may be a way to get concessions on tax benefits for studios, but he’s too stupid to do that and his advisors would need to figure that out. Edited May 5 by Jman 4 Quote

At this rate it won't be long before someone simply sneezing in another country in our general direction will be considered a national security threat, and he'll demand we build a giant sneeze guard around the entire nation. We'll be the country-sized version of the bubble boy then. Only it won't do any good because he's the worst germ there is, and he's already inside. 2 Quote

He just wants to inflict enough pain on it to force it to heel and accept some type of government oversight that'll no doubt be about who they can hire or imposing certain restrictions on what type of content they can include. Just another part of the never-ending, ever more ubiquitous culture war of theirs. First the Kennedy Center and the museums, then the schools, and now this. It's no secret that Hollywood has been a big driver of cultural change in this country, and to a lesser extent worldwide. Only figures that with their so called war on woke they'd eventually go after it. Edited May 5 by Dark_Cloud_Overhead Quote
Jman Posted May 5 Posted May 5 https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/trump-jon-voight-unveils-hollywood-movies-tariffs-1236207690/ The actual proposal. It barely makes any mention of tariffs because the T word makes Trump hard. Honestly, if this had been published instead of the all caps tarrifsturbation, people would have a more positive outlook. 1 Quote
Insipid Posted May 6 Posted May 6 (edited) I watched The Apprentice, mainly because a Japanese minister calling Trump an extortionist recommended others to watch it. The movie really shows how Trump came to be what he is now. And the interesting thing is that the film has a similar effect to The Wolf of Wall Street; scumbags will be enthralled by Trump but most people will be able to see that he's garbage. Insipid Posted June 11 Posted June 11 (edited) I've been reading the Walmart Effect. I higjhy recommend it. The book is 20 years old, but it nonetheless explains how Walmart became the behemoth it is today, and how it has influence American businesses. Walmart is similar to Trump in a way; not necessarily the source of systemic issues but prime indicators of them. Hyper-consumerist car-dependent suburban culture did not start with them, but it is exacerbated by Trump and Walmart. Edited June 11 by Insipid 4 Quote
