Yep, nothing revs up military graduates like hearing from some doddering draft dodger about...whatever random thing fired the single functional brain cell left before pudding time fully sets in for the day. 1 3 Quote

Dark_Cloud_Overhead Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Trump pardons former sheriff convicted of bribery Guy was supposed to report to prison today to start serving a ten year sentence, and instead gets away scott free. Apparently crooked folks all over the country are falling all over themselves to try to get the swamp king's ear so they can try and buy a pardon, going so far as to even hire lobbyists now to help them do it. Sadly, this just goes to show that not only does crime in fact pay, but that paying can make said crime just magically go away. 3 Quote

Lobbying for pardons has been part of the system from its inception, though. Unfortunately, it's built into the system as a way to leverage powerful people who can ostensibly offer something in exchange for forgiveness. 1 Quote

tsar4 Posted May 28 Posted May 28 Just a random thought: Imagine it's announced that Trump will be attending some sporting event. All the players come on the field...take a knee - and refuse to play until he leaves. 3 Quote
Insipid Posted May 28 Posted May 28 Trump has approved the Nippon Steel and US Steel partnership . . . personally, I think Nippon Steel should tell them to fuck off, as many of the steelworkers' fathers were all jap this and jap that back in the day. What the fuck ever. I'm certain Nippon Steel has a longer term vision anyway. And of course Trump mistakenly calls Nippon Steel "Nissan." 4 Quote

So Nippon Steel should refuse because current workers' fathers were racist? That's like saying the US should refuse because of Pearl Harbor. 1 Quote

Much of the sentiment against China right now mirrors the US-Japan rivalry in the 1980s. Trump wanted Japan to be tariffed to hell back then. And lol, mentioning Pearl Harbor like this is in exceptionally poor taste. 1 Quote

Your explanation makes it feel like even more of a non-sequitur than it did before. Is it? I think it's equally as ridiculous to hold a grudge over generations in both cases. 1 Quote

I think he's being sarcastic. If I recall, he was one of the biggest proponents for the deal here on the boards, so it's unlikely he's suddenly opposed to it. 2 Quote

Knowing the history of the rust belt, the current attitude toward globalism by many MAGA type blue collar workers, and Nippon Steel saving their jobs . . . it just leaves a poor taste in my mouth. As I said, I trust that Nippon Steel has a suitable long term plan. The deal is being made regardless of what I think, and it makes Trump look good. Whatever, really. 1 Quote

The racism of the previous generation hasn't gone away, and its evident in how Pennsylvania's blue collar workers voted in the last election. 1 Quote
