Bad News For Stuart Baker/Unkown Hinson/Squidbillies fans

Such as myself. [adultswiim] fired him from Squidbillies over a string of comments on facebook in response to Dolly Parton supporting BLM he commented or posted some comments like calling her a  "“freak titted, old Southern bimbo” and a “slut.” Personally I respect to her career but if we're a comedian or comedy characters or comedy fans totally not shocking to think any of that if you were alive in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's might be funny.

I think what pushed things too far was this quote in another post "Any libs following me, please unfollow me HAVE FUN [sic] forsaking your own race, culture, and heritage" which I can't defend although I could see him drunk and being in character getting carried away trying for laughs. Either way I am trying to get an interview with him, but a lot of fake facebook accounts for Stuart Baker and Hinson and I'm not at all famous but I have a couple accolades at this point so who knows? Figured it was worth a shot.

An entertainer who has been part of [asmb] about 10 years before you joined(so 2004) and I was also a SwimHelper for muiltiple folders in the last 4 years or so of the boards and a friend of Luuv.

Now refresh my memory who are you?

He was getting ready to run for office too. Looks like North Carolina dodged a bullet with that one.

Yeah sad to say I agree with you. This was his originally apology.

Been a fan of him for 15 years and a fan of squid-billies for the same. Hate to see his entire career undone over this but he did cross a line

It be true.

Swimdeus is my dude, he can vouch for my OGness

Okay SwimDeus is a good dude.

Odin and Luuv both verified my account but could never retrieve it for me. My perma ended up being 2007 Da_Killa_Ounze which is one of the reasons I was made SwimHelper. Was Sawdamizer really your original screen name?

Not being a jerk but I don't remember a sawdamizer in 04. I do remember you around the 2010's though. Thought it was like 2014 or so but I'm not perfect. I am human. I can forget shit lol

Yeah, that garbage after he was fired kinda nixes the in-character shit. Hopefully this movement continues taking out the trash, fuck him.

Kind of my thoughts exactly, it seemed like even if not in the best taste it was an overreaction considering the character he portrays.

I mean, this dude is still a step behind on the shit scale under Dan Harmon and his fucking a doll video.

Gonna have to disagree after looking at the story, as a lot of us have made jokes about pedophiles but when confronted with actual pedophilia we gag. So he tried to make a molester joke and realized how awful it was, either through the perspective of others or in thinking about defending the sketch and artistic freedom. He just said I'm sorry that's way too offensive and I shouldn't have made it.

This guy is doubling down on his shit, and the way things are right now I can't stand anyone that has a problem with BLM. If you say you know enough to have a problem with BLM you shouldn't have that problem because this recent spate of events highlighted the reasons BLM has to exist in the first place. Shitty people make enjoyable things sometimes. Roman Polanski made more than a few movies I like. It is what it is.

At least Harmon was trying to be funny. This guy is just ranting about Dolly Parton supporting BLM, fuck him. I know barely anything about her but her support is not surprising at all, she was always outspoken.

I agree with most of this. But I still think Harmon was a piece of shit for making that video. It wasn't funny at all. And I was a fan of Rick and Morty, but can't see myself watching his shit anymore. Far as Dolly Parton goes, if anyone doesn't like Dolly, that's their problem. She has never been anything less than a stand up person. She knew she would lose some hillbilly fans who only liked her because of her body. But she didn't give a shit. She isn't fake, and she'd rather stand up for what she believes in, than have the support of some inbred trash fans.

In respects to both of these acts, the shit isn't funny....On the subject of pedophile joke, when the joke is on the pedophile, I can back it...When the joke is on the child, it's not funny. I don't care for Squidbillies, so I have no fucks to give, but I'm dumping Harmon because when I just saw the initial clip, I was like "eeeeh, maybe" but after seeing more of the pilot, dude was full on "LMAO, child molestation....Look at your dad while I fuck you, you fucking baby".....So as much of a fan that I WAS....Fuck him too.

Yeah, I didn't watch the Harmon thing, sounds awful. You gotta at least give Harmon credit for pulling it and apologizing. I only read one story about what happened there, and since I don't have kids the kid toucher stuff hits me less. But I can see how an artist could take something to a really dark place with an intent in mind, and not realizing what they did until their mom calls and asks what the hell their problem is.

I mean, in the realm of a celebrity, it's hard to just take an apology at face value because their career and the livelihood they've become accustomed to is on the line....So I'll say maybe he took a second look and saw it was in bad taste, but it's hard not to think his motivating factor was "oh shit, my money"

There is no denying he was proud of it (since you say you haven't seen it, you wouldn't know) because he introduced it with disclaimers and made the statement that it was dark, but maybe we would surprise him with our reaction...Which sounds to me "This is great, and I hope some of you are open minded enough to find me simulating raping a baby as funny as I found it"

Ack, cause I can also see that opening intro like, "I'm trying something weird and I hope it provokes conversation about the subject."

I really don't want to watch the video. It's easy to see the defending your job portion too. The world may have been better off when that shit was confined to boardrooms but maybe not.

It sucks you can't see this guy's cartoons cause you might understand why I could have this thought, but i wonder a bit if John Campbell's breakdown had anything to do with making everyone hate him, it was so random. A quick short of what he did, he put pictures of him burning all the books he was supposed to send his fans because he couldn't afford to send them, used racial slurs and vanished. He could very well just be a piece of shit, but shitty people sometimes do things I enjoy.

Well, I tend to overthink shit under the guise of seeing the bigger picture.....What I'm saying is, Harmon was "brave" enough to come forward with his shit, hoping for a different reaction but how many creators have shit exactly like that or worse that they keep a tight lock on because they KNOW it'll ruin them....Leaving me to blindly continue to enjoy their work dishonestly.

What he made was fucked, and I can't in good faith support him...But, he did give me a choice....I'll give him that.

But that's all I can give him.

This is part of why I don't look at celebrity news, I don't care about their lives. They pretend to be other things.

The only reason I defend Louis CK is because I inadvertently found out a lot about his life during the period of those incidents. His wife wasn't touching him, enough that it bled into his comedy, and he really loved her and I can see the rationale in his dumb head of "well if I'm just jerking off in front of her I'm not cheating." Lots of guys cheat at work, and the work environment of a comedian and comedy writer is extremely informal. I doubt he thought of his position when he did it, I think he just wanted to cum in front of a woman without cheating or getting caught.

That's really the primary driver behind cancel culture in general.  Without agreeing with the concept, the point stands that celebrities really can't be afforded the benefit of the doubt when it comes to apologies, even unprompted ones, because they have too much capital (real and emotional) invested in an artificial, public persona.  The apology has to come from the person not his or her avatar, and, for better or worse, cancelling an individual at least in part strips away that artificial front.  Unfortunately, the larger issue is that cancel culture doesn't allow for a space for honest apologies once the artificial image is destroyed.

Personally, I don't hold Harmon to that kind of standard because he's a particularly dark comedian.  For better or worse, he's made a living off of making some really cynical, if not outright nihilistic, jokes, so it's to be expected that he's eventually going to make a joke that goes too far and he's not going to apologize for it simply because its vile in it's own right.  It's only somewhat comparable, but this isn't unlike when Gilbert Gottfried made a joke about Japanese tsunami victims and was forced out of his iconic pitchman job with AFLAC.  Anyone who's seen Gottfried over the years expected him to make that joke, but that doesn't mean it was any more acceptable once he did.
