Toonami Unevenedge Ratings Discussion 3.0: Let The Good Times Roll!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Those Rick & Morty shorts held Batman very well and then Macchu Picchu dropped hard with the 18-49s. Not surprised.

It's possible that the first half hour or two of Year One did out draw Family Guy but the average of the 90 mins didn't. Even so, that's excellent retention all the way to 3:30am.

I wonder how the JoJo, Clover and Shippuden might have done airing after Batman: Year One. They'd probably lose a fair amount of viewers but I'd like to know just how many would stick around for anime after a Batman movie.

D-Do they not realize that it already aired on cable back in 2008?

It WAS edited all to hell back then from what I understand!

Also, THIS was 5 years ago. SAO II slipped back under a million as the Mother's Rosario Arc kinda hit a lull following the epic sword fight showcased the previous week.

Take that Jericho!

NBA and UFC winning the night is no surprise to sports fans, but Batman = Ratings.  Honestly, you could just put the block on hold till Fire Force starts and go through the remaining good Batman DTV films and it would probably do better than the cobbled together quilt of reruns and Black Clover.  People will tune in for the month, and you even have a built in slogan -

“Same Bat-Time, same Bat-Channel!”

Not really. Cartoon Network was pretty lax when it came to editing PG-13 movies back in the mid-to-late '00s. I even remember Gotham Knight having the same TV-14V rating then that it also had now - though since I never saw Working Through Pain or Deadshot until this past Sunday, I can't say whether they cut anything from Bruce doing street doctor work or Deadshot assassinating that one rich guy - so chances are it was left fairly intact.

JoJo beat FCS Football in 18-49, LMAO! And both crushed it in 18-34!!!

Jojo beat Assclass. That makes sense, given that Jojo aired just before it.

What the hell is that supposed to mean? It's always listed as a rerun for some weird reason! But it didn't do TOO bad. Would have been #16 or #17 if included:

Adult Swim’s line-up performed as follows:  DRAGON BALL at 0.11/254K & 0.12/270K and 0.12/457K, JOJO’S BIZARRE ADVENTURE at 0.20, ASSASSINATION CLASSROOM at 0.19, BLACK CLOVER at 0.17/287K, FIRE FORCE at 0.15/250K, NARUTO at 0.13/219K, SAMURAI JACK at 0.13/243K, and GEMUSETTO MACHU PICCHU at 0.12/207K.

I'm not buying that "0.12" for Toonami's DBS; it seems like they just got dyslexic and it should really be "0.21."

When did that change for BC, I could have sworn it has been listed as new before.

I don't obsessively follow these things, so you'll have to indulge me if I miss something along the way.

When BC lost its original 11:30 timeslot when FLCL returned in 2018, it ceased to be listed as a premiere.

Also, continuing with my "5 Years Ago" series, Akame Ga Kill continued to KILL IT, buoyed by an unlisted network premiere of DBZ Kai that Toonami and [as] just recently lost the rights to after over 5 years!

JoJo and Ass Class stay put at #11 and #13 and both shed about 30K total viewers and a hundredth in Adults 18-49, though Ass Class DID gain a little in 18-34! And hey, both curb-stomped AEW in 18-49!

Also, 5 years ago, Toonami gave us a Michiko and Hatchin marathon, plus this music video, which was watched by almost a million people (oddly enough, somehow not me):

But it's pretty damn good, huh? Both the song AND the video! And yeah, I have a similar story. I have a friend who is married (so no possibility of overnight stay) who decided for some reason she wanted to watch Toonami with me that night. We watched the first episode of M&H but then she realized it was a rerun so she didn't want to see it, so I went home to watch the rest of it since I DID want to see it. Unfortunately the video played on TV on the way home, and I failed to record it so I never actually saw the video on TV.

http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-saturday-cable-originals-network-finals-9-5-2020.html

"Adult Swim’s line-up performed as follows:  DRAGON BALL at 0.11/289K & 0.10/237K and 0.20/363K compared to last week’s 0.11/254K & 0.12/270K and 0.23/457K, JOJO’S BIZARRE ADVENTURE down 0.01 to 0.19, ASSASSINATION CLASSROOM down 0.01 to 0.18, BLACK CLOVER down 0.02 to 0.15/259K, FIRE FORCE down 0.03 to 0.12/214K, NARUTO down 0.04 to 0.09/170K, SAMURAI JACK down 0.05 to 0.08/150K, and GEMUSETTO MACHU PICCHU down 0.04 to 0.08/138K."

https://programminginsider.com/saturday-final-ratings-146th-kentucky-derby-on-nbc-is-most-watched-labor-day-weekend-sporting-event-in-three-years/

AVERAGES:
TOTAL VIEWERS - 258,571 (#34; 3rd to last so far for 2020)
ADULTS 18-49 - 186,571 (#33; 4th to last so far for 2020)

DBS = crap confirmed, especially in this lame arc. The sooner it can be replaced with SAO and be sent packing to replace Jack at 3 AM, the better! Hopefully that is the plan in October!

But there is something that I feel must be mentioned: as bad as 2020 has been so far for the ratings, with a peak of 718K/444K adults 18-49, 2018 also had the lowest lows, with multiple weeks of under 100K 18-49, and 2019 had ONE (on November 2nd). But 2020 has yet to even have ONE. Samurai Jack's 105K 18-49 is the lowest we've seen yet in 2020; hopefully it won't get any lower than that for the next 3 months and change! As for its total viewer number of 150K, it ties the nadir for total viewers, last seen on 11/24/18, also at 3 AM, for a rerun of Lupin the 3rd Part 4.

Ass Class also did pretty good! Both the highest ratings either has pulled off in their current timeslots all year!

Far cry from what we saw 5 years ago though:

DBS back over 500K:

"Adult Swim’s line-up performed as follows:  DRAGON BALL at 0.05/217K & 0.09/275K and 0.25/506K compared to last week’s 0.11/289K & 0.10/237K and 0.20/363K, JOJO’S BIZARRE ADVENTURE up 0.02 to 0.21, ASSASSINATION CLASSROOM up 0.01 to 0.19, BLACK CLOVER up 0.02 to 0.17/346K, FIRE FORCE up 0.04 to 0.16/277K, NARUTO up 0.03 to 0.12/233K, SAMURAI JACK up 0.03 to 0.11/206K, and GEMUSETTO MACHU PICCHU down 0.01 to 0.07/135K."

JoJo and AssClass continue to gain strength:

Final-Cable-2020-Sep-19-SAT.png

Those 18-49 and 18-34 numbers are actually pretty beastly! It's been a good long while since we've seen Toonami shows get 0.31's in 18-34! This even beats what the Batman movies were able to do!

Too bad all this positive momentum is going to be stunted in 3 weeks with the RTJ special and the latest Toonami block EVER!!! Toonami has NOT failed to air at Midnight or before for over 8 years, ever since 5/26/2012! But on 10/10/2020, it will. 😪

I don't know why we're not getting the ratings for the entire block.

They always come in mid-afternoon:

"Adult Swim’s line-up performed as follows:  DRAGON BALL at 0.08/202K & 0.08/204K and 0.31/557K compared to last week’s 0.05/217K & 0.09/275K and 0.25/506K, JOJO’S BIZARRE ADVENTURE up 0.05 to 0.26, ASSASSINATION CLASSROOM up 0.07 to 0.26, BLACK CLOVER up 0.06 to 0.23/378K, FIRE FORCE up 0.03 to 0.19/308K, NARUTO up 0.06 to 0.18/301K, SAMURAI JACK up 0.05 to 0.16/268K"

All of the 12-3 AM portion of Toonami over 300K! Doesn't quite beat the Gotham Nights though.

I used the adverb "apparently". That means that it was apparent to me that's the case, but now that I have anecdotal evidence to the contrary, it appears it is just me.

"Adult Swim’s line-up performed as follows:  DRAGON BALL at 0.09/208K & 0.09/251K and 0.22/458K compared to last week’s 0.08/202K & 0.08/204K and 0.31/557K, JOJO’S BIZARRE ADVENTURE down 0.05 to 0.21, ASSASSINATION CLASSROOM down 0.06 to 0.20, BLACK CLOVER down 0.06 to 0.17/246K, FIRE FORCE down 0.04 to 0.15/299K, NARUTO down 0.03 to 0.15/288K, SAMURAI JACK down 0.05 to 0.11/231K, and GEMUSETTO MACHU PICCHU down 0.02 to 0.09/187K."

Wow, did Black Clover screw up THAT badly? Sorry, showbuzzdaily.com, not buying it. That should probably be "346K". Even so, numbers were down across the board last week.

Since due to the news-bomb that was trump catching COVID, the news ruled last Saturday, and neither JoJo nor AssClass made the Top 50 (both with 344K total viewers).

Hopefully Demon Slayer in its 2nd run can bring up the rear better than its umpteenth-run predecessor. Would be nice if it stayed 200K or better!

Well, BAMA vs. Ole Miss won the night, but a little bit fewer heads up trump's ass means Toonami's JoJo and AssClass were able to crack the Top 50 again, with both shows checking in at 0.17!

Well folks, the results are in, and it's official: "Holy Calamavote" was an unholy megabomb:

To be fair, at least everything made the Top 50 this time. And both eligible Toonami shows kicked Calamavote's ass in 18-34! Really not too shabby for 1:30 and 2 AM! But man, was the Eric Andre sneak a hilariously bad idea or what!?

Baseball playoffs and a cable TV unification boxing match against something Toonami’s viewers do not want to see.  Was anyone surprised by this?

Everyone is voting.  Everyone gets it now.  No one needs to be reminded, since odds are they already went to the polls or are waiting for said polls to open up.

The good news is the 2nd half actually did relatively well:

Adult Swim’s line-up included the special HOLY CALAMAVOTE at 0.16 and the ERIC ANDRE SHOW at 0.13, and its regular shows rated as follows:  DRAGON BALL at down 0.05 to 0.13/252K, JOJO’S BIZARRE ADVENTURE down 0.03 to 0.14, ASSASSINATION CLASSROOM down 0.02 to 0.15, FIRE FORCE down 0.01 to 0.14/259K, NARUTO up 0.01 to 0.14/275K, and DEMON SLAYER steady at 0.13/253K.

That's right, folks. ASS CLASS at 2 AM led the block!
