Toonami Unevenedge Ratings Discussion 3.0: Let The Good Times Roll!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Well, that's interesting. Apparently this week only, it's been replaced with reruns of Live Rescue. But since Toonami doesn't have any premieres left to speak of, since for some dumb reason they haven't considered Black Clover to be one since it got dropped from its original 11:30 timeslot to midblock hell, it's like Alanis Morrissette's "Ironic".

I wonder if they would use an upcoming hiatus in Black Clover's run to return it to prime position once it DOES return. That might not be a bad idea.

So we FINALLY got ratings from the LAST SATURDAY OF MAY (5/30)! Looks like they came out last Saturday evening--go figure! And all things considered, Toonami didn't do THAT bad:

https://programminginsider.com/saturday-final-ratings-nasa-spacex-live-launch-on-discovery-tops-all-telecasts-in-all-key-figures/

Also, 5 years and 2 days ago, [as] ACTN fans who followed InuYasha for years finally got to see Naraku die in The Final Act's penultimate episode, which got a completely unfathomable by today's standards 1M+ viewers and 0.45 in adults 18-49:

No need to bother with the grid this week or next, for reasons which SHOULD be obvious, but we do have this:

http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-saturday-cable-originals-network-finals-6-6-2020.html

"Adult Swim’s late-night line-up performed as follows:  DRAGON BALL at 0.10/260K & 0.12/245K, MY HERO ACADEMIA at 0.25/491K, PARANOIA AGENT at 0.18/343K, MOB PSYCHO 100 at 0.16/322K, BLACK CLOVER at 0.15/291K, NARUTO at 0.13/245K, and GEMUSETTO MACHU PICCHU at 0.12/212K."

LMAO they left out Ballmastrz: 9009, which actually was part of Toonami, and gave us Gemusetto Machu Picchu, which wasn't! But then again, these days the lines between which shows are Toonami and which aren't has never been more blurry, as just like when Toonami returned just over 8 years ago, [as] plays 6 hours of anime per week. However, unlike then, 3.5 hours are actually outside of it, while only 2.5 hours are within!

MHA actually didn't do that bad, but too bad all we had to follow it was the disappointing Paranoia Agent, which SHOULD have stayed at 1 AM.

Getting back on Toonami's ratings and away from Toonami's shitty neo-fascist competitors, thanks to MHA, this block as a whole did slightly better than last week, at least judging from what we know so far. But I guess we won't know until Ballmastrz 9009's numbers come in.

Mob Psycho 100 STILL hasn't done what it did in week 1 through FOUR more episodes and beat its premiere in total viewers; however in 18-49, it actually HAS done that 3 out of the 4 weeks so far. As for week 5, it's pretty clear at this point it missed, but hey, 3 out of 5 ain't bad!

Premieres--who needs 'em? As long as Toonami keeps the packaging fresh, not really! But this is a hilariously stark contrast to 2019, where they left the packaging downright stale but aired 2 reruns the entire summer!

I also said Live PD is actually just on a break, something he did NOT say.

I said the possibility of it being cancelled is present.

Especially with news breaking the show‘s staff destroyed evidence in a murder case.

Cops was at least honest enough to make its "stars" sign waivers, while Live PD has a more cavalier attitude about that. I doubt the latter is coming back. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if we start to see fictional shows about police (like Chicago P.D.) be either cancelled or put on lengthy hiatuses amidst all of this.

It’s already begun.

I’m kind of wondering how this will affect that little sub genre of “super powered public service officials”.

I think Fire Force is safe. They're a department people actually RESPECT.

I just hope DeMarco didn't go and pick up Cop Craft. That would be the dumbest, most tone-deaf move ever!

The guys in Fire Force are not cops. They're firefighters. Please. This show had a delay last year already due to worrying social events, and the last thing they need is another one.

Fictional police shows account for the highest ratings of all 4 basic cable channels. I hope they realize they need some change.

A look back to 5 years ago, and the end of InuYasha: The Final Act:

Top-40-Cable-SAT.13-Jun-2015-e1434459324

Well, we FINALLY have full block ratings for last week, 6/6/20, and believe it or not, they actually got posted DURING Toonami last night. Ballmastrz did about as crappy as you'd expect.

https://programminginsider.com/saturday-final-ratings-telemundo-leads-prime-time-among-adults-18-49-and-18-34-with-double-movie-feature/

Then again, it IS kinda nice to see 7 shows once again on the rundown at the bottom of the article! Digging a little deeper, we see that in the absence of Live PD, the #1 show was actually a 10:30 episode of The Big Bang Theory on TBS, and Toonami lost big to Nick-At-Nite but once again beat TZGZ.

AVERAGES: 322.5K overall, ranking 18th out of 23 for the year; 214.8K 18-49, 17th for the year.

Surprised they didn’t descend into 200K with Ballzmasterz considering how awful that show is.

This is a block running on fumes, but it’s boosted by the unceremonious cancellation of Saturday’s top dog.

At least it gets some real star power in My Hero Academia premieres for the next 2 weeks, but then after that...??? 🤷‍♂️

Never will understand why they didn't swap Mob and Black Clover UNLESS that means we're getting Season 2. Oddly enough, as things are now, we've got 2 more episodes of Mob's Season 1 rerun than we do of BC episodes that are dubbed, but it's quite possible at least 2 more will be dubbed by the time we reach that point. They may even go into overdrive on BC at a rate that ensures it doesn't have to pull a JoJo and take an extended break before it catches up to where it took a break in Japan.

Of course I get why Paranoia Agent is at 12:30, but it only has 5 episodes left, which is also one less than Mob Season 1. I see it rerunning somewhere down the line, perhaps immediately.

I also see no way there won't be a marathon on the 4th of July, and it will probably be either MHA or PA.

The sustaining ratings throughout the night despite the weakness of the MHA Season 3 encore made the difference this time, as the block averaged 353,833 total viewers and 256,667 adults 18-49, both ranking 11th for the year so far out of 24, above average for 2020. As for the 12-3 AM time frame in previous weeks in 2020, it was 12th and 10th, respectively.

MHA returned from its hiatus and immediately hit the Top 10 with a pretty impressive 0.27 in 18-49, but even it couldn't hold off Trump's meltdown with 18-34:

These numbers are pretty sad:

"Adult Swim’s line-up performed as follows:  DRAGON BALL at 0.09/211K & 0.08/212K, compared to last week’s 0.10/256K & 0.09/236K, MY HERO ACADEMIA down 0.05 to 0.22, PARANOIA AGENT down 0.02 to 0.17/358K, MOB PSYCHO 100 down 0.01 to 0.16/344K, BLACK CLOVER down 0.04 to 0.12/257K, NARUTO down 0.03 to 0.12/244K, and GEMUSETTO MACHU PICCHU down 0.05 to 0.08/170K."

Then again, Toonami didn't do as well as usual 5 years ago, either:

Ok, so it's finally the weekend, and I have a WHOLE BUNCH to update y'all on!

First, the last week of MHA:

https://programminginsider.com/saturday-final-ratings-tnt-wins-prime-time-among-adults-18-49-and-25-54-with-telecast-of-2018-feature-film-avengers-infinity-war/

My Hero Academia (Adult Swim, 12:00 AM, 30 min.) • 0.499 million viewers [#229] • 0.289 million adults 18-49 • 0.22 A18-49 [#15] • 0.24 A25-54 [#53] • 0.08 A55+ [#670]

Paranoia Agent (repeat) (Adult Swim, 12:30 AM, 30 min.) • 0.358 million viewers [#431] • 0.219 million adults 18-49 • 0.17 A18-49 [#66] • 0.18 A25-54 [#136] • 0.05 A55+ [#762]

Mob Psycho 100 (repeat) (Adult Swim, 1:00 AM, 30 min.) • 0.344 million viewers [#456] • 0.204 million adults 18-49 • 0.16 A18-49 [#89] • 0.16 A25-54 [#173] • 0.06 A55+ [#742]

Black Clover (repeat) (Adult Swim, 1:30 AM, 30 min.) • 0.257 million viewers [#691] • 0.156 million adults 18-49 • 0.12 A18-49 [#179] • 0.13 A25-54 [#292] • 0.04 A55+ [#812]

Ballmastrz: 9009 (repeat) (Adult Swim, 2:00 AM, 15 min.) • 0.260 million viewers [#678] • 0.156 million adults 18-49 • 0.12 A18-49 [#179] • 0.13 A25-54 [#310] • 0.05 A55+ [#783]

Ballmastrz: 9009 (repeat) (Adult Swim, 2:15 AM, 15 min.) • 0.228 million viewers [#791] • 0.139 million adults 18-49 • 0.11 A18-49 [#245] • 0.11 A25-54 [#442] • 0.05 A55+ [#805]

Naruto: Shippuden (repeat) (Adult Swim, 2:30 AM, 30 min.) • 0.244 million viewers [#735] • 0.150 million adults 18-49 • 0.12 A18-49 [#203] • 0.12 A25-54 [#351] • 0.05 A55+ [#805]

That was, of course, down from last week, but it resulted in the 2nd quarter of 2020 being better than the first, and for 2020 so far to be better than the last half of 2019.

Nothing yet for the Dragon Ball Super marathon on July 4th, but LOOK WHAT WAS #1!

If you were wondering how the DBS marathon last weekend did, well, wonder no more!

DBS draws, and it retains, yo!

Also, you can compare it to the worst-rated lineup of all time a year before!

NOW maybe people will shut up when I say 4th of July weekend should be almost always be marathons-only!

And finally, 5 years ago Kill la Kill and SAO2 were of course still kicking ass!
