he probably needs more positive reinforcement. but coming here to search for it, is his demise.

i feel bad for the guy actually.

my daughter (the one i brought down here w/baby) allowed herself to get consumed with depression. lazy has a big part in this.

she is slowly coming around.

i will say this. she got a job here within a month. sure it's only PT, but she is more active. and tries to fight the temptation to stay in bed allday.

if he could only find a small gig. even volunteer. i think he could make a better attempt at fighting this.

eh...what do i know?

i think most sensible people blame his parents for allowing it to continue instead of hauling his ass out to a temp agency

I just have no idea how it ever gets to that point.....Alleged mental illnesses aside, there is no excuse for it....Hell, if bipolar people couldn't work we wold have no Walmarts.

Oh, it's all shtick....But he uses it to try to convince us that he's legit mental as if we can't see clean through it.

Phillies is actually lucky he's lucid enough to hold a conversation for extended periods of time, or not in jail. Many Bipolars are bad enough or have a complete lack of support to the point where they are either medicated into a routine stupor to compensate or end up in jail. You would not believe the number of poor guys that I have seen in the psychiatrist's office talking about how they are getting forced treatment because of prior arrests or because their families are going to kick them to curb cause they are too big of a risk or hassle to deal with.

It's a shame too cause the ones most at risk that I've seen are poor young people, typically millennials. I got stopped by this woman who was an emotional wreck while I was making a follow-up appointment a few months ago. She was talking to me and was shocked that I could even attend school even on a part-time basis or that I had ever held employment for years before having a mental breakdown. She told me I was lucky and that she had been committed 5 times she was 19 (also a bipolar) she must have been at least 40s. I count myself really lucky in some ways that was able to get help for medical insurance that I otherwise couldn't have had access to, I would be in much worse position if I hadn't, like the living under a bridge type. At this point, I have made progress in treatment and have an opportunity to recover.

Obviously, I don't know everything about Phillies' condition or particular circumstances, but it is entirely possible for someone with his clinical condition to be unable to work or even function normally for varying periods of time. I don't blame you though, because these types of things that reside in neurology are difficult to explain to others who do not have alot of direct experience in them, which is, unfortunately, the vast majority of people in today's world. I am not saying Phillies is totally faultless to his condition, but he's certainly faced with some rather extreme hardships. And I know first hand I would not wish such hardships on anyone.

I think I missed the specific content, but yeah, that was pretty stern for this place.

Not sure what you are really supposed to say to someone that says that took a handful of pills.

I have spoken to him privately several times, he stated things which are convincing to me having dealt with my own mental illness. Things that people who don't have an actual issue of some kind would not otherwise be able to describe in detail without prompting or leading.

Not to mention I believe he has mentioned the specific medications he takes here several times, which I know for a fact are medications commonly used to treat bipolar disorder among other mental illnesses. Most people that do not have mental illnesses do not readily rattle off psych meds with accurate names, or the classifications that those drugs reside in.

Btw, I am not saying he should be coddled, but a bit of understanding would probably be appropriate. It is actually very important to recovery that the correct level of compassion while not compromising someone's expectation of responsibility (to the individual level they can reach) be respected. These are all complicated parts of dealing with shit like this that take time, but it's not the responsibility of anyone here. It would be nice if it was not intentionally used as a way to bludgeon him over the head though.

Do you honestly think Phillies would go through the trouble of researching types of medications, their specific common combinations used to treat mood disorders and also be able to talk about the classifications of drugs they are in?

I dont think with the low level of intellect of the users here they are even capable of understanding this post, really.

What else is he going to do? Dude is unemployed and spends his life on the internet, that's a lot of time to fill through out the day.

And I have been around long enough to see the shit around here.

No compassion.

Do you realize that he made such a post a few hours after being relentlessly attacked in a very personal manner right? I'm not saying that he should be just allowed to make such posts here with no one saying anything, but a bit more concern and at least some acknowledgment of context would be more appropriate.

You know the harmful people that stigmatize mental illness so that people hide it, kill themselves, and people are so shocked because that person never seemed depressed? You're part of those harmful people.

He just doesn't strike me as the conning type, there are plenty of users here who do have those qualities and have displayed them readily. I'd be more inclined to believe those individuals were faking various shit before him. Not to mention, I do agree he is lazy in some aspects, many people are to some degree or another, it just is worth considering when talking about what someone would put effort into doing or not.

Well this escalated nicely.  I'm not defending Phillies either, and his lack of a job is his own doing.  But it's been well known for years that his bi polar disorder is severe.  And, since we occasionally see him meltdown here, his inability to leave his self made prison clearly isn't just about him being lazy.
