Got rid of Cable

Took over two hours of phone conversations and having to go into the building and talk with more people, but fuck cable got up to $190! I didn't even have channels like HBO or Showtime etc. They just raised it by $60 out of the blue. I ordered an HD antenna from amazon so I can have some basic channels. Other than that I'll have to find shows like the walking dead on Hulu or something, and go to the bar to watch sports which is usually the case anyway.

Move!

If I hit the lottery or make bank I'll consider moving for a better cable provider. If I were to move it would probably be to one of the cities that has Google Fiber. I know Pittsburgh will never get it because our city is laid out like shit on the sides of mountains.

Somebody here once accused me of lying when I mentioned a cable bill that high.

Eh. I've never been one for cable I guess.  I'm thinking of downgrading my internet package though for the first time in years because my funds are low, and honestly if I get myself in the right place I might just cut it off all together. I've been spending too much time on the damn internet.

Spending time online at least justifies paying for it. I was getting to the point where I was rarely even watching cable, and when I was it was more out of just needing something on while I ate or did laundry.

would love to get rid of this. but have to keep the grandpa happy. -__-

personally, i only use netflix and hulu. and of course the spousal units love of movies.

we have..probably of 2k? maybe? it's a lot.

I guess I'm like an old ornery grandpa being dragged kicking and screaming into the current age in some ways. I don't watch hulu or netflix or anything, I'm fine with cable. If I were to rely on Internet services like those for my TV watching, I'd have to get a second computer that I could dedicate to nothing but hooking up to my TV so I could use this computer for other shit while I watch TV.

You do bring up a good point. I only watch a few channels, and of course cable is usually like $100 a month or more, while netflix is what, like less than $20.00 a month? I definitely get the appeal, but eh.

when i actually had dish in my name at the other house,

i was so damn happy when they started 'make your own package'

it lowered my cost, but then i was only watching the 3 channels i liked.

When I saw those commercials for (I think it was) DirecTV last year about their a la cart thing where you can pick and choose whichever packages you like so "you only pay for what you want," But I'm like, I'd probably want only one channel from each package, and a bunch of different packages, so would I really even save on much? I need my sports channel (NBC Sports Bay Area is the only one I care about), my two cartoon channels (CN west and CN east are the only ones I care about), TBS west, TBS east, and Comedy Central (I guess those would each go in a basic cable package?), a couple of the local channels (they often tend to broadcast the SF Giants games that NBC Sports Bay Area doesn't). Off the top of my head that's probably all I need, which I don't think is much, but I would estimate that to be a total of 4 packages.

yeah dish has a better selection for the 'a la carte' i mean, you still have to pick a package, but if i remember it was pretty on point with what i liked.
