AoT: .....  it seems not everyone likes this show as much as we expected them to!

I hated it during the first season the second season is just a void  now

DBZ kai is really the only show I'm actually watching ... well that and shippuden/GITS

A couple interesting trends to note as of late:

The gap between the 8:00 PM and 11:30 PM showings of DBS is closing with the earlier airing improving and the later airing dropping. That doesn't do Toonami any favors, but removing the earlier airing doesn't seem like an option. Kai seems to be picking up the slack, and I'm guessing AS doesn't care too much as long as both showings of DBS continue to hold up well.

Jack is doing very well, but 11:00 is most likely gone after Jack ends. The DB shows or Titan can't hold that audience, so unless they've got a big surprise coming soon, FG should be getting that slot back. That might be for the best since Family Guy tends to do better in the 11 PM slot anyway, and that could help lift the block overall.

Titan S2 doesn't look to have the hype or buzz after S1, so 12:30 might have been the right call for it after all. It's also only 12 weeks of content, so it wouldn't have even guaranteed that Toonami would keep 11:30 if it premiered there. At least with DBS, it looks like that can hold down 11:30 indefinitely.

The rest of the line-up is down, but so is everything else. As long as it remains in line with the AS average, Toonami will be fine.

First of all, I think it should be obvious that Attack on Titan would be doing better if we weren't waiting two-and-a-half years for the new season, or four in general. And an 800K average isn't too bad compared to what JoJo's sometimes got. I'm sure they made the deal with Funi for it for a good price, or else they wouldn't have placed it so late.

About DB Super... yeah, I guess it's just general viewer apathy along somewhat with the 8:00P airing. One thing I suppose they could try would be, after Jack ends, to move it later on. Swap the Dragon Ball shows, or maybe Super and AoT until the latter ends. Perhaps the best way to get more people to watch the other airing of Super would be to hook those who don't expect it at the beginning of the block.

Gundam Unicorn is still available to stream subbed, but it was also on Crunchyroll with both the sub and dub. But most Toonami viewers aren't the kind of people who would willingly seek out those sources to watch a show. So maybe it just isn't catching on with the public? And while I do expect them to air Season 2 of Iron-Blooded Orphans, that very well could be it for Gundam on Toonami. At least I've heard people say that IBO's second season is superior, so the franchise would go out in a high note.

Really, I'm not in any sort of panic, because I know genuinely awful things could happen at any moment.

Well lookie here:

AOT may have bombed hard, but Super bombed even harder, and Kai even beat it!

Ouch to Gundam Unicorn, being the LOWEST slot of the night in 18-49, even getting edged out by Shippuden and GITS!

Oh man Attack On Titan's second season ratings so far have not reached the blockbuster heights that it's own hype set for itself. The block starts off with a huge bang thanks to Samurai Jack and right when the block could use another huge ratings bang via Attack On Titan, we instead get something that's a bit disheartening considering the expections that everyone had. Though by no means is Titan doing terrible

At least Titan is good.

Super is just.. embarrassing. Embarrassing to the DB franchise and to Toonami.

So why isn't Titan doing any better than Jojo? Is it because of the 4 year gap?  Or has our appetite for murder porn been sated by 7 seasons of the Walking dead?

Just a heads up

Its cinco de mayo weekend, we got a big boxing fight, nba and nhl playoffs. So ratings could be "ouch"

I dunno about NHL playoffs, and I think you're right about boxing, but NBA is a non-issue going forward. Playoffs games will not air on Saturday nights.

Might hurt Mike Tyson Mysteries on Sunday nights though!

Anyway, here's my weekly wrap-up:

TOTAL VIEWERS RETENTION

8:00 PM Dragon Ball Super 914,000

10:30 PM Family Guy 1,395,000

11:00 PM Samurai Jack 1,302,000 (93.33%)

11:30 PM Dragon Ball Super 977,000 (75.04%)

12:00 AM DBZ Kai: The Final Chapters 996,000 (101.94%)

12:30 AM Attack on Titan Season 2 808,000 (81.12%)

1:00 AM Tokyo Ghoul 719,000 (88.99%)

1:30 AM Hunter × Hunter 656,000 (91.24%)

2:00 AM Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn 575,000 (87.65%)

2:30 AM Naruto: Shippuden 560,000 (97.39%)

3:00 AM Ghost In The Shell HD 532,000 (95.00%)

TOTAL VIEWERS AVERAGE - 791,667

It turns out that Dragon Ball Super actually had the worst retention of the night, and Jack for once failed to beat 10:30 PM Family Guy. The 12-3:30 portion of the block is down 28% in total viewers vs. the 20% for the rest of [as] vs. this week last year. That's not very good, even if the total viewers average was UP slightly (~2k) from last week.

ADULTS 18-49 RETENTION

8:00 PM Dragon Ball Super 468,000

10:30 PM Family Guy 834,000

11:00 PM Samurai Jack 824,000 (98.80%)

11:30 PM Dragon Ball Super 603,000 (73.18%)

12:00 AM DBZ Kai: The Final Chapters 619,000 (102.65%)

12:30 AM Attack on Titan Season 2 481,000 (77.71%)

1:00 AM Tokyo Ghoul 433,000 (90.02%)

1:30 AM Hunter × Hunter 382,000 (88.22%)

2:00 AM Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn 338,000 (88.48%)

2:30 AM Naruto: Shippuden 341,000 (100.89%)

3:00 AM Ghost In The Shell HD 341,000 (100.00%)

ADULTS 18-49 TOONAMI AVERAGE - 484,667

Samurai Jack managed to retain almost 99% of the 18-49 portion of the audience from Family Guy. Even if it was at its season low, that's still pretty good! Super at 11:30's retention of adults 18-49 was even worse than its retention of total viewers. All of a sudden somehow Gundam doesn't seem that damn bad, even if it WAS the nadir of the night across ALL [as] in 18-49! However, the average was down almost 15k from last week, and also the 12-3:30 portion of the block was down 13% from last year. We don't even know how far all [as] was down, so that might actually be a good thing for Toonami!

And finally:

CURRENT SHOW AVERAGES

Total Viewers

Dragon Ball Super (8 PM) - 883,063 (16 episodes)

Samurai Jack - 1,352,571 (7 episodes)

Dragon Ball Super (11:30 PM) - 1,148,688 (16 episodes)

Dragon Ball Z Kai: Final Chapters - 1,032,118 (17 episodes)

Attack On Titan Season 2 - 817,000 (2 episodes)

Tokyo Ghoul - 746,200 (5 episodes)

Hunter × Hunter - 829,245 (49 episodes)

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn - 694,412 (17 episodes)

Naruto: Shippuden - 860,747 (156 episodes)

Ghost In The Shell HD - 521,538 (13 episodes)

Adults 18-49

Dragon Ball Super (8 PM, Estimate) - 431,000 (16 episodes)

Samurai Jack - 868,429 (7 episodes)

Dragon Ball Super (11:30 PM) - 700,438 (16 episodes)

Dragon Ball Z Kai: Final Chapters - 627,059 (17 episodes)

Attack On Titan Season 2 - 502,000 (2 episodes)

Tokyo Ghoul - 465,400 (5 episodes)

Hunter × Hunter - 493,061 (49 episodes)

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn - 422,529 (17 episodes)

Naruto: Shippuden - 477,631 (139 episodes)

Ghost In The Shell HD - 325,692 (13 episodes)

Adults 18-34 (Estimated)

Dragon Ball Super (8 PM) - 276,333 (15 episodes)

Samurai Jack - 585,429 (7 episodes)

Dragon Ball Z Kai: Final Chapters - 425,235 (17 episodes)

Attack On Titan Season 2 - 316,000 (2 episodes)

Tokyo Ghoul - 312,600 (5 episodes)

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn - 288,529 (17 episodes)

Weird, now in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, BOTH Tokyo Ghoul and Gundam Unicorn stick out like sore thumbs, as on an aggregate average basis, they're outrated by the Viz shows ahead of them! Then again, those shows both had MUCH better starts as they're the longest-run shows currently on the block!

This is what I was afraid of.  However, since the weak link here appears to be the Dragon Ball Super rerun, I imagine that Adult Swim will most likely try to do something with that first before adjusting the rest of the block.

Super is like if a company hired what they deem an "all star employee" who is the best at what they do. But then they start coming  in late every day and  have to leave at noon while getting no work done and everyone else has to pick up the slack. Then management yells at the rest of the staff for doing a horrible job while the all star gets employee of the month. ;D

^ You should watch Shirobako. I think a lot of us here would get a kick out of it.

Super is like if an executive tried to fix what GT got wrong by retconning it and going back to the earlier point of the story, but he's too busy looking at focus groups, ratings, and numbers to make something great.

Does anyone here actually like Super?  We have a lot of people here that like a lot of stuff.... but it doesn't seem like anyone here is actually into it.

My expectations for Super's quality were pretty low, but the one thing I expected from it was  some fast paced well animated battles. It hasn't even been able to do that yet.

I'm gonna have to swap my vote to GT. Gt > Super at this point.

My opinion on it has wavered.  I started out enjoying it, then realized the fight went nowhere because they were only testing out what Goku can do out of Beerus' curiosity, but then I enjoyed the filler so far.

I am not much of a fan either. I only watch it really out of support for the block. If it wasn't for that I don't think I would have picked it up on its own. It's been very boring to me this far.

Currently on the block I mostly enjoy Jack and HxH. Everything else I sort of half pay attending to. Wasn't the case in 2015 or 2016. Hopefully something different and fresh comes soon!

Jack's Wednesday night 10 PM rerun just doesn't seem to be holding up as well against the NBA Finals as its comedy counterparts:

I daresay when Jack ends we might not see weeknight action again for a while.  :(

So far I caught two of the Wednesday showings.  I realy should've watched them all so far.

That and SNL seem to be the only two things competing with weekend.

I also realized CN's constant airing on Teen Titans Go and their horrible reboots have made fans state that the network is in a horrible state now, which could be one reason why ratings are down all across the board this year,

Toonami's biggest direct competition in the sports world was Canelo vs. Chavez Jr. in boxing. Somehow I forgot about that, even though it usually trended higher than Toonami shows!

Also, DB Super at 8 PM had Megamind as its lead-in. We'll see how well that worked out...

I don't think adult viewers not liking what's on CN for the most part is causing them to watch Adult Swim less, though I suppose it may play a factor in more Adult Swim viewers dropping cable. I also think the overall staleness of the Adult Swim's daily line-up is finally showing signs of losing people's interest. Despite that, Adult Swim remains #1 with their key demographics so most of the viewership loss may not have much to do with what Adult Swim is airing. Most people wont keep overpriced cable and a locked in contract with a satellite company just for a few channels, even if they still love Adult Swim it's not practical to pay that much just to be able to keep watching it when most of the shows are available in greater quantity for less money via streaming.

Now THAT'S how you do it, [as]! Tonight they showed a topical for AOT during the 12:15 Boondocks before the commercial break, practically 5 days before the episode airs!

And interestingly enough, this Boondocks episode features a bully who knocks out his targets in ONE PUUUUNCH, making me wonder why they didn't try this last year!

Getting back to AOT, I REALLY hope it cracked 900K last week, let alone a million! By the law of averages, things have gotta get better sometime; I guess we'll find out in about 7-8 hours...

It's ratings may suck on Toonami... buttttttt it's still as popular as ever.

What's interesting is this time we actually get to see how well the 6 PM CN movie (in this case Megamind) did in total viewers and target and off-target demos as a lead-in to DB Super at 8 PM! As you can see, it dropped pretty greatly in total viewers and slightly in adults 18-49, but GAINED in adults 18-34! However, DB Super is down from its lofty 18-49 height 2 weeks ago so we don't really know if that particular movie was the best lead-in. We DO know that CN has a rather formidable audience at that time and leads-in to Super well. Some actual SYNERGY going on between the time share networks; whod'a thunk it??

Meanwhile despite the return of the main cast to the forefront, Attack on Titan just keeps getting more and more disappointing. It's almost down to Space Dandy 2nd Cour levels of disappointment (On 7/26/14, Episode #17, or #4 of the 2nd cour, got 750K and 396K 18-49 before turning things around considerably for the rest of the season. Guess what's next for AOTS2...). And Tokyo Ghoul isn't doing it any favors, and Gundam is just on too late to know if it's doing good. Only the hardcore of the hardcore stay up for it apparently. I hate to say it, but I think the block is actually missing One Piece!

Jack continues to be the saving grace on a block Toei keeps ruining.  So while Jack gets dat ass, the rest of the block disappoints.

But it's still better than if One Piece was airing.

I wonder how long they made this deal with TOEI? If this were any other show it would have been pulled or moved by now. I hope they included some kind of provisions for themselves in a scenario like this. They had to have known what splitting the ratings for the biggest draw would do to the rest of the night, right? Either way as long as this situation continues so will these ratings. I'm sure by now they understand that as well. But if this is acceptable to them considering the situation, then fine. But there's no really improving from about this every week and unless they make a change.

But a press release came out right before upfronts about AS being #1 in 18-34 so as long as they can keep telling advertisers a particular show is winning its timeslot in with 18-34, 18-24 or even just men in those same age brackets, then they may just deal with it.

Well, my brain seemingly can't stop listening to "Future Times". And it's got some songs that are good for a pick-me-up.
