Yeah, I agree with that. Given that One Piece was 674K/409K 18-49 it probably would have topped 500K/345K 18-49!

Believe it or not, with a 0.57, roughly 387K, Gundam IBO did better in 18-34 than it has since Episode #15, the last time it topped 400K. Meanwhile, JoJo stays above 400K, which is pretty good. One-Punch Man's rerun's average is of course unchanged since CWCLV took its timeslot, with roughly a 225K in 18-34, which is really not THAT bad for 3 AM! We'll never even have a clue how Hellsing did in that timeslot but I'm pretty sure it blew it away to the tune of like 300K-350K 18-34, not to mention One-Punch Man is probably pulling close to that in that timeslot in reruns!

I know it's too early to say but maybe just maybe they should swap HxH and JoJo come January. Even though I figure Battle Tendency will get more interest, Hunter x Hunter is gonna really ramp up by then and it's already proven itself this year regardless of it's time slot. So maybe they could consider that. I figure they'll put something new at 12:30 in January but they could put HxH at 1AM and JoJo at 1:30 to see how that does. On the other hand Hunter will be fine at 1:30 and JoJo would probably look just fine if it wasn't following DBZ.

 

So that movie, I think it did alright for where it was considering the first hour was not counted at all so what you have is an average of 4AM-5:30AM or 3AM-4:30AM if you want to think of it that way. Had that first hour been counted it likely would have averaged quite a bit better. I don't really see these results causing Toonami to air more movies but I do think it met their expectations for the time period. At the very least it bested Hellsing X and FMA Milos despite airing much later in the night either. It didn't quite beat EVA 2.22's rerun that ran from 2:30-5AM but again only the later hour and a half was counted in this case and it likely would have beat EVA 2.22's rerun had that been the case.

Unlike JoJo AND IBO, HxH has always done well to retain the viewers from it's lead-in so you're talking nonsense boyo.

 

The only thing that's gonna take one of those five long running series off is a contractual issue like say a potential conflict of interest. They're not gonna drop any of them of their on volition.

Hmmm, you're probably right! Though if I interpolate over the lost hour and through the course of the movie tapering down I get more like 347K, not quite good enough to beat it:

 

One Piece - 409K (known)

CWCLV :30 1/5 - 388K

CWCLV :30 2/5 - 367K

CWCLV :30 3/5 - 347K

CWCLV :30 4/5 - 326K (known for 3-5)

CWCLV :30 5/5 - 305K

 

The only X-Factor is that 0.24 for the first American Dad. Since One Piece got a 0.32 and the movie got a 0.25 in its last 90 minutes, the decay might have actually been greater early on, more to the tune of this:

CWCLV :30 3/5 - 337K

But like I said, we really don't know. Now as for whether or not Toonami does this again, I say they will. They might want to pick a movie with a little less of a lullaby-inducing score, but it is completely bizarre that nowhere on their website is the movie streaming, nor is it available on-demand. I still have high hopes that it will stream 4 weeks after it aired (the weekend of December 2nd through 5th) as normal, so that I can finally hear what Asuna said when she was asked why she came to Agartha! Despite its lack of on-demand availability, I believe there IS a chance it gets a replay on one of the three upcoming holiday weekends (Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's), so that they don't have to air three weekends of marathons. As for whether such a re-air would be at Midnight, 12:30, 1 AM, or possibly later, that remains to be seen as well! And I would also say of the three, it would most likely be Christmas Eve since I don't believe ratings are even calculated for that night.

 

So let's just hope it did well enough for them to repeat the feat on November 4th 2017, although maybe with a movie that's actually been requested such as Redline or Eva 3.33. And let's hope CWCLV re-airs on a holiday weekend to break up the monotony of marathons!

This is why I post the rolling averages. DBZ Kai was actually ABOVE average slightly. The others (excluding CWCLV because it was a one-time movie event) were all below average, and I guess if you want to get technical, CWCLV was WAY below One-Punch Man's rerun average but it didn't contribute to it.

 

Also, JoJo might not be a DimW or Punchy, but it's doing better on average through 3 episodes at 12:30 AM than Gundam IBO did in its first 3 at midnight on average, despite the fact that so far Gundam has the higher peaks.

Well, I can say definitively that despite overall numbers for both shows being up and 18-49's being flat, 18-34's were WAY down this week:

Yeah, I'd say that's probably the influence of UFC alright. JoJo just isn't turning out to be this God-tier show everyone thought it would be, at least not so far. DBZ Kai at this point in the game had only averaged 1016K/540K, however, and no one in their right mind wouldn't call that "God-tier!"

 

We'll find out how well everything else did later today, but looks like a pretty bad night overall for Toonami.

Everything was already low to begin with. By the time OP came on, of course it'd be off the charts. I mean, by 1:30am we were already in the 700k range. Not much hope there.

 

IBO keeps bringing the rest of the night down. Although... and I hate to say it.... JoJo really didn't do the block any favors this week (or the week before-hand) either.

 

Damn you America, for only caring about DBZ and like... two other series when it comes to anime in America. >_>

Well, I guess this one rounded up to 500K 18-49 on the skin of its teeth. DBZ Kai and everything from HxH to OP was down from last week; OPM up but only because it compared with the rated portion of Children Who Chase Lost Voices, which was technically an hour later in the night. JoJo and Gundam gained, but only by 1K each.

 

Intruder III just hasn't been as successful for Toonami as Intruder II, but I guess that's OK since it's sort of a transition. College Football has been an ever-present thorn in Toonami's side, and huge matches in Boxing (11/5) and UFC (11/12) didn't help, either. Hopefully 11/19 will do better, since most of the big teams have wuss opponents and there's no UFC or boxing.

(I do know that if we ever built up showing more movies to the point that we could have a Half Month of Movies one December, I would be quite pleased. More movies on Toonami whenever they are shown in general would be fantastic)
