K_N Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 I live on the coast of Georgia, I really hope it stays away from me.
Ginguy Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 It might hit the tip of Florida and run up the coast, according to an early model I saw. Seriously, I'd start prepping now, or making plans to get to high ground.
Naraku4656 Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 man maybe i should have bought flood insurance. oh well
Doom Metal Alchemist Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 I wanted to link Baby Got Back, but you stole the joke. S:
Phillies Posted September 5, 2017 Author Posted September 5, 2017 there's a third storm forming now too btw Are you shitting me?
K_N Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 Are you shitting me? Nope. Irma is a cat 5 hurricane. Jose is a tropical cyclone. And there's the yet-unnamed "Tropical Depression 13" in the gulf, with a 70% chance of becoming a cyclone.

Phillies Posted September 5, 2017 Author Posted September 5, 2017 fuggz when did you become a weather man?
Chapinator_X Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 I've been doing prep work since Sunday. Hopefully, it'll lose power by the time it gets near. It doesn't flood by me, but I'll probably lose power. I don't think we have any trees big enough to wall us in since Wilma hit, so I'm hopefully I won't get walled in. I just gotta calm down and make sure I stay cozy and safe.

K_N Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 This is nothing new this time of year. Irma is the most powerful hurricane ever recorded in 256 years of meteorology. Yes, this is new.
Phillies Posted September 5, 2017 Author Posted September 5, 2017 Irma is the most powerful hurricane ever recorded in 256 years of meteorology. Yes, this is new. We are all doomed.
Naraku4656 Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 if i have to work from home because of this storm i'm going to lose my damn mind
NaBarney Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 Idk what any of this means but serious people are saying this is some actually unbelievable next level shit.
Phillies Posted September 5, 2017 Author Posted September 5, 2017 Idk what any of this means but serious people are saying this is some actually unbelievable next level shit. It looks like someone stuck their cock into a bag of skittles.
fuggnificent Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 Irma is the most powerful hurricane ever recorded in 256 years of meteorology. Yes, this is new. i meant there being multiple storms in the ocean, not irma
Phillies Posted September 5, 2017 Author Posted September 5, 2017 fuggz if that thing moves north it could go over your home state.
fuggnificent Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 Idk what any of this means but serious people are saying this is some actually unbelievable next level shit. well it looks like itll go through fl first before it hits me. that'll weaken it.. right.... right??
Phillies Posted September 5, 2017 Author Posted September 5, 2017 yes it will weaken it. Will probably only be a catergory 2 by the time it hits you.
K_N Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 Idk what any of this means but serious people are saying this is some actually unbelievable next level shit. Well, those colors are wind speeds. Also, see that thing that the top that says "Min MSLP: 869.1mb"? That's the atmospheric pressure inside the storm measured in millibar - the lower it is (1013mb is normal atmospheric pressure right now), the stronger the storm is. The worst storm ever recorded made landfall with a pressure of 903mbar - if Irma hits with something in the range of 800, it's going to completely decimate anything it rolls through. Hurricanes are also measured in a unit called "Accumulated Cyclone Energy" - Harvey was rated 11.2 on that scale, Irma is currently rated at 26.9 and rising.

Hold on though isn't this all speculation? I mean is that really what Irma status is^ It could loose power before it gets closer.
K_N Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Yes, it can and probably will lose power before it gets closer. That is what generally happens. Unfortunately... it also has Jose behind it, which is contributing to Irma's low pressure system as it too forms into a Hurricane - realistically Irma should be losing power already, instead it's gaining it.
