Rage really isn’t worth seeing live unless you’re already teed up and yelling at some jerkoff you met like ten minutes ago seems like a great way to spend a Saturday night. My buddy from ‘SC is a huge Rage fan and he yells at the stereo every time they play.

Steinbeck is depressing, even for English majors, but what really kills HS English is the way they teach it. Steinbeck is meaningless unless you (a) had a older relative survive the Great Depression, (b) live in Salinas (which is really nice for a farm town), or (c) are taking a history lesson on the first 3 decades of the 20th century. If you can’t derive any perspective out of what you’re reading, what’s the point? For the record, as decent as Steinbeck is a prose writer, you’re not likely to read him for his word smithing. It’s for his characters, all well written and sympathetic, but unmistakably creatures of the Dust Bowl. Most HS freshmen aren’t going to have a real insight into the droves of people that escaped the Midwest only to waste away here in California. Unless you see it for yourself, it doesn’t really make sense.

I didn’t piss myself at the Home Depot. I call it a win.
