Therapy is needed as well as psychiatric care.
I'm willing to bet that a cluster b personality disorder is involved; further, my money is on narcissistic PD. Unfortunately, although there are behavioral treatment modalities that can be effective, narcissists don't seek them out because they don't see any problem (to wit, it's us, not them). Also, the therapy is hard work; one needs to be really motivated and strongly committed. It can also be a financial drain; I don't know how much would be covered by insurance, or what the cost out of pocket would be, but I do know that in the US, mental health is not a priority when it comes to coverage and reimbursement.
