  3. The Quiet Man (1952) Planet of the Apes (1968) The Ten Commandments (1956) The Great Escape (1963) Any movie with Lon Chaney Sr. Any 3 Stooges short in the Curley or Shemp era
  4. Not nursing homes, retirement communities and assisted living facilities. We had kind of a mini epidemic of chlamydia at one of the local facilities - somebody picked it up someplace, and the gent who was servicing half the widows in the complex shared the wealth. It's kind of awkward, having a conversation about safe sex with somebody who was born before WWII.
  5. I worked in family practice for ten years. Fridays were the worst - every geriatric dude in the county calling to see if we had Viagra or Cialis samples because Medicare would only cover 5 a month. You're 75 - how much sex do you actually need?
  6. I remember when Viagra first came out - in order to get a prescription for it, one had to undergo cardiac screening, including possible clearance from a cardiologist, to insure that one was healthy enough to use it with minimal risk of dire consequences. Now, one can just call a number on the TV or go to a website, and hey presto! All the erectile assistance one could ever ask for. Did it actually turn out to be that safe, or did profit and boners turn out to be more important?
  7. Maybe because you don't complain, maybe you're very polite, maybe you're charming, maybe you're stoic, maybe a combination of all of these... Or maybe you just look miserable and pathetic. ( I have a brother whose face relaxes into that long-suffering pathetic look. When we were kids, people used to give him free stuff just because they felt sorry for him.)
  8. If they can cure it, they can charge for it, plus for the follow-up visits.
  9. Considering that there are maybe six cookies in a box, even 2 1/2 hours is a long time.
  10. On a related note, if I ever hear Willie Nelson warble "Seven Spanish Angels" ever again, I'm not sure what I'll do, but it will be newsworthy.
  11. The pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle. The chalice with the palace holds the brew that is true
  12. So do a video.
  13. Yeah, slut is good - whore has too much of a business connotation.
  14. Well, yes. You will get the answers you state, not whether they are high ("bells and smells") or low (bare bones). Totally off topic: it doesn't matter, because the rest of the world sees the RCC as an amorphous blob anyway. One of my favorite quotes (right up there with the one in my sig) is from Thomas B. Allen's Possessed: The True Story of an Exorcism, about the case that inspired The Exorcist. The possessed child's parents consult their Lutheran minister, who, when it becomes apparent that there is demonic mischief afoot, tells them, "You must go to the Catholics. They know about these things."
  15. Granted. However, if you ask an Anglican if they're high church or low church, you'll get an answer. If you ask a Roman Catholic the same question, you'll get a puzzled look.
  16. Stop. Just stop. Yes, J.R.R. Tolkien was Roman Catholic. C.S. Lewis was Anglican. Their offices were down the hall from each other, and they used to share an allegory stick. Anglicans can be high or low church. Technically, Roman Catholicism is considered a high church, but I've never before heard it referred to as such; Catholics are either Roman or Orthodox, and both are equally "high." (and now I wish I was.)
  17. My brain hurts.
  18. What does this even mean?
  19. Um, England is not a "high Catholic country." Ever hear of Henry VIII? (Yeah, yeah, I know it's called "Catholic Lite," but still...)

  23. Sheer perversity.
  24. I had to explain Zombie Jesus to one of my younger sisters today. 🀦
