2024 Presidential Elections: the schadenfreude commences

When they said rabies test, I kinda expected it was because of this. That's not something they'd just do for random confiscation, I imagine. But absolutely required if infection was possible. -

The fact that it did just smacks of either subterfuge or desperation. And.. I can't really wrap my head around being that desperate for a news angle. Somebody, somewhere in the great Machine, looked at this happening, and, at this point in the election cycle, determined it needed national attention? It's just... MD on a national scale. Willing to look like complete fools because somehow that owns the libs.. -

The biggest shame here is just how much the whole event was politicized. Which... frankly seems too suspicious. At first, it sounded exactly like a case of "my son got lost in a hot air balloon," so, imagine my surprise when I find it's been validated. Still feels like it leaves questions. Something like this doesn't just blow up. Did they snitch on themselves to spin up some attention? Was snitch just preparing to manufacture some outrage? A long term plan? I mean, honestly, if this were politically flipped, there'd be a hundred "false flag" accusations by now. Convenient how quickly they'll believe something if they think it benefits them. -

...You side with the people that will cram a roadkill bear into their car, leave it for the evening, and dump it in central park. Or cut the head off a whale. Get all the fuckin way out of here with this bullshit. -

Ehhhhh. Is she really getting anyone worked up, though? Mostly nobody's even responding to the content, it's just, as you say, pure astonishment that she's willing to look that stupid. She knows just as well as anyone else here that none of us are buying it, and yet.. she posts it anyway. And I, for one, refuse to believe that's what passes for trolling around here now. Not when we've had some absolute legends in the day.. -

You're telling us you genuinely believe Biden calling Trump supporters garbage means Harris might lose due to... alienating Trump supporters? I know we call you dumb around here a lot, but that sounds like you might have an actual learning disability. -

Kinda do wonder whether shit like this might fade out once they're no longer able to follow the cult leader.. or if the right will just implicitly embrace/encourage this shit, because fuck knows they're not all that interested in trying to win legitimately. -

Probably still pretty long odds it would translate to a push for statehood.. -

This really feels like a huge factor, especially for lackluster support from Dems. How tf you gonna follow an act like Obama without at least trying to convince folks shit's gonna get done? Especially with Sanders making so much noise. And AOC to boot. Being a career politician, yeah, the country might've been run fine (certainly better than what we got...), but.. the party as a whole has been suffering from a lot of talk and not enough action, and she couldn't really even talk the talk. -

It'd have to be something a lot worse than groping to "end Trump's campaign." Like. Bare minimum "giving Giuliani a bj." Groping anyone would just make him more relatable to his inbred voter base. -
Maybe it turns out all you gotta do is not be an evil piece of shit and you'll be allowed out in the light of day..

Idk.. this feels like a "believe it when you see it" deal. I'm not even entirely convinced the "remaster" part is going to include significant, if any, trimming, or if it's just going to make it look prettier. On top of that, even if pacing is improved, it's kinda already stained by its reputation. You're not going to get anyone new to slog through several arcs on the promise of "it picks up later.... like, way later."

Truth be told, I've started to question if we even can build new large-scale internet communities in the current internet landscape. Everything has become so marketing-dependent and everyone is just so very sick of it. The people wanting any social media format to rise to power the most are those that stand to make money off of it. It's no longer about building a community, it's building an audience of consumers. Anything remotely large-scale is just going to fall prey to the same mechanics, and be at the mercy of big advertisers that will steer any platform towards what will generate the biggest short-term profits. You're doomed if you don't bend to their whims and lose funding, and you're doomed if you do and lose public support. Idk. Bit of a ramble. Just been mulling over how much of a shitshow the internet has become, and the impacts on social media, and I personally think it can all be traced back to advertising having an ever-growing influence on what does or doesn't survive. -
It's kinda even more surprising when you realize the name... we just jumped from Helene to Milton? Fuck that's a lot of named storms in a short span of time. Even if they're mostly just spinning up and doing nothing in the middle of nowhere, that's still a lot of activity.

Rick and Morty the anime drops full trailer, August 15 release date

Mighty Boosh put it best: "Elements of the past and the future, combinin', to make something not quite as good as either." There may have been potential in the idea at some point.. but the writing is so far removed from the source material that it may as well be bad fanfiction. -
What Tv show are you Watching on Cable, Netflix, Hulu, etc?

In my search for good background noise, rediscovered MXC - Most Extreme Elimination Challenge. This shit was incredible back in the day, and dammit, the writing still holds up solid. -
Finally cut out cable last month, sorta just chilling with free-to-view stuff until I finally pull the trigger on some subscriptions. Ghost in the Shell holds up surprisingly well. Kinda missed seeing this all the time pre-Toonami. Dunno what deal [as] got to basically have permanent streaming rights, but I'll take it. Incidentally, the original Laughing Man incident was supposed to happen earlier this year...

No no, it'll be over because they won't want to participate anymore. A "we're taking our ball and going home" situation. -

Incidentally, can confirm, subbed ep is freely available on [as] app (and presumably website). Guess it makes sense, [as] production, would have total streaming rights. -

I just figured the black-and-white was mostly because this is trying to be treated as a faithful adaptation, as close as you can literally get to "manga but animated." But maybe also kinda yeah, I think too it'd lose some of the impact if it were to be colorized. -
One Piece Episode 689 Discussion
rpgamer replied to CorbeauKarasu's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Been wondering, but.. something occurred to me.. what was even the point of that entire coliseum part of this story? Like... it's established as a trap for Luffy, and the bait needed to be the fruit... but why the fuck would they actually put up the actual fruit for grabs? It's just... there, easy pickings for their enemy. Why not use a fake? Why not lie and not put anything in the chest? Why not rig it in some way? It just makes absolutely no sense that it was ever a possibility someone would be able to take something that powerful and use it against the family.. I guess maaaybe if there's some long term plan of "hahaha, it was sabotaged all along and now you're going to die in 3 days" or something. But, currently, feels like a very weak plot point.
