  1. Idk.. this feels like a "believe it when you see it" deal. I'm not even entirely convinced the "remaster" part is going to include significant, if any, trimming, or if it's just going to make it look prettier. On top of that, even if pacing is improved, it's kinda already stained by its reputation. You're not going to get anyone new to slog through several arcs on the promise of "it picks up later.... like, way later."
  2. It's kinda even more surprising when you realize the name... we just jumped from Helene to Milton? Fuck that's a lot of named storms in a short span of time. Even if they're mostly just spinning up and doing nothing in the middle of nowhere, that's still a lot of activity.
  3. Mighty Boosh put it best: "Elements of the past and the future, combinin', to make something not quite as good as either." There may have been potential in the idea at some point.. but the writing is so far removed from the source material that it may as well be bad fanfiction.
  4. In my search for good background noise, rediscovered MXC - Most Extreme Elimination Challenge. This shit was incredible back in the day, and dammit, the writing still holds up solid.
  5. Finally cut out cable last month, sorta just chilling with free-to-view stuff until I finally pull the trigger on some subscriptions. Ghost in the Shell holds up surprisingly well. Kinda missed seeing this all the time pre-Toonami. Dunno what deal [as] got to basically have permanent streaming rights, but I'll take it. Incidentally, the original Laughing Man incident was supposed to happen earlier this year...
  6. I had a dream that I shit my pants... surely this was a sign.
  7. Incidentally, can confirm, subbed ep is freely available on [as] app (and presumably website). Guess it makes sense, [as] production, would have total streaming rights.
  8. I just figured the black-and-white was mostly because this is trying to be treated as a faithful adaptation, as close as you can literally get to "manga but animated." But maybe also kinda yeah, I think too it'd lose some of the impact if it were to be colorized.
  9. Been wondering, but.. something occurred to me.. what was even the point of that entire coliseum part of this story? Like... it's established as a trap for Luffy, and the bait needed to be the fruit... but why the fuck would they actually put up the actual fruit for grabs? It's just... there, easy pickings for their enemy. Why not use a fake? Why not lie and not put anything in the chest? Why not rig it in some way? It just makes absolutely no sense that it was ever a possibility someone would be able to take something that powerful and use it against the family.. I guess maaaybe if there's some long term plan of "hahaha, it was sabotaged all along and now you're going to die in 3 days" or something. But, currently, feels like a very weak plot point.
  10. [as] still has a website??? Judging from the app on my Roku, usually anything actively airing is on a significant delay, if it's unlocked at all. Actually, checking just now, I've only just realized how much is freely available. Still, not sure I wanna wait that long to resume watching things, and I'm a bad pirate..
  11. Oops. Cut the cable just in time to miss this starting up.. S'ok, I never get to watch anything on Saturday night anyway, Max ought to be just as good.... right?
  12. I mean.. I get it. It's running with the old trope of "nothing shown in sequential order." Because Elle's whole thing is time happens all at once or whatever. It'll be one of those things that maaaaybe makes more sense by the end when it all ties together, and will still require remembering it all, and probably still take someone cutting it all into sequential order to really make sense.. whatever can be made here. I just don't think they needed R&M to tell that story, and lifting the characters to put them in it has drained them of most of their characterization, and forces a lot of really flat/awkward writing that simply doesn't fit.
  13. I was just saying this needs to join in on Toonami Rewind. >_>
  14. Catching up.. hot damn! In case anyone isn't familiar, the type of sword she's using looks more like an urumi. Those things are seriously the most terrifying weapons I have ever seen.
  15. Damn.. had a look, and this is only just halfway through the whole arc? Yeahh.. think I might be checking out of this one soon.
  16. I've enjoyed it.. but can't help but feel it doesn't really have staying power. The "everything fast paced" gimmick can't carry the show forever. Fun, but not necessarily something I'd go out of my way to catch.
  17. Could prolly turn these into just one catchall instead of each episode... Soo.. I guess we're not rotating which shows get the double-up? I suppose of the three, Sailor Moon is maybe the best choice right now.. Would it be so wrong if I wanted to see them pick up Reboot to join these and fill in the fourth slot? >_>
  18. Hot damn am I oblivious.. only just noticed Matt fucking Mercer has a voice role here.. and evidently also One Piece, and AoT, and Jojo, and HxH.... I mean, I'm not usually one to really catch on to voice unless they're particularly iconic (JYB, Blum, etc). And Mercer maybe doesn't particularly stand out from any other deep gravelly voice.. but damn, always kinda cool to see his name pop up. Actually far more prolific than I realized. Most folks prolly know him from Critical Role, but I'll always remember him from some of his earliest work on There Will Be Brawl.
  19. ...Why tf is anyone even upset at a lack of any sendoff? I mean.. shit, none of the other shows ever really get any acknowledgement when they leave. "But Naruto is huge!!" So? It's also so bogged down with filler and atrocious writing that nobody who truly cares that it's leaving was ever waiting week to week to tune in. The actual story ended months ago, it's not like this finale was actually some major to-do wrapping all the things up. We've gotten inconsequential fluff for half a year now. What is there to send off other than to say "thank fuck that's finally over"? It's just not even worth the effort to give it any extra attention as a "finale" since none of this adds anything of value to the story. The story which ended back in March.
  20. The only logical conclusion here is this is basically just for the Japanese R&M fans. Those that enjoy western media and can appreciate their cultural spin on it. With the hope that westerners that enjoy anime will surely love seeing one of "their" shows being made into anime..... without any real consideration for how much overlap there really is for anime fans and R&M fans.. For them, the anime is basically on the same level as anything else on offer. For us.. well, it's just combining two enjoyable media to create something not quite as good as either.
