I recently watched a youtube video how much of modern American consumerist culture is based on bullshit identies. Obviously things like designer clothing have been around for quite some time. This has now gone beyond to innocuous things like handsoap.

Anyway, I was thinking about the first time Aldi opened near me in the early 2000s. Groceries were still rather affordable, as we remember. Then came Aldi. In these early days, you were forced down aisles instead of being allowed to roam about, the ceilings were low, the paint was darker, the produce was on what looked to be portable tables, and they only accepted cash. Some people were embarrassed to shop there.

Today, new Aldi stores allow you to roam about each aisle, the paint is bright, the tables don't look portable anymore, they indeed now accept card payments, and there are Aldi stores in bougie areas where people drive fancy cars. It's almost like this German efficiency is telling American consumerist culture to fuck off. Walmart tried to open in Germany and they failed.

one opened here, it's nothing to brag about IMO, but it's there and has some good deals.

but i don't typically shop there, that's reserved for every basic bitch in a 50 mile radius.

Most of their stuff is hit or miss with me but they get shit no one else does...like pink lemonade pop tarts, and a frozen deep dish pizza... haven't seen one of those for years

Their beef is trash, but that's what my local butcher is for so I dont fault them for that...no worse than those gray ass cuts from Walmart.

Their bananas are dogshit (joy and Carmelita) but the strawberries are always sweet. The peaches are ok, but I most eat canned peaches and pears...not for health, i just like canned peaches and pears.

Its my go to for eggs and milk....much cheaper than anywhere else.

I cant glaze em like Benji, but Aldi definitely gets a portion of my money during refrigerator reup time.

Are white people even allowed inside an Aldi?

Only recently immigrated Europeans. White Americans tend to get enraged that the cashiers are allowed to sit down.

We got an Aldis a few years ago. Maybe it was a Lidl’s. Idk nvm.

🫠

ok so we actually got both. I went to Lidl but the lights were so fuckin bright that me and the other.50 had to walk out.

never been to Aldi’s but they’re opening a second location out here but both are more on the south shore. I know them and Trader Joe’s get a lot of attention for recalls

I enjoy Aldi, though you have to know the things that are way better there, and avoid the not as good stuff. Luckily for me there are more hits than misses.

Aldis yes there's a mofo s the way I say it.

Anyways, Aldis has been around for a long time in my neighborhood. Before the food was cheap but extremely shitty quality.

But it's definitely stepped their game up. Been to a few in Orlando and they were fancy.

I live within a half-mile walk from an Aldi and a Safeway, both within screaming distance of each other. My wife and I go to Aldi for the cheap stuff and Safeway for anything Aldi doesn't carry.

Wish they'd start selling their own store brand of Old El Paso stand & stuff taco shells, though. I don't like the other kind. The stand & stuff shells sit nicely on your plate and you just have to load them with whatever taco fixings you like. Fuck, I like to sit the hard shells inside soft shells, like a crunch wrap.

I normally avoid the Aldi Walk of Shame aisle . . . but it's their 50th anniversary and they had some really tempting items this time. I bought the last orange blue water tumbler at my store.

I’ve only been a few times. It was usually like a holiday and I was low on butter or lemons or something. My ex didn’t like it cause it wasn’t ’blue line friendly’….couldn’t have Ben and Jerry’s for the same reason.

I remember like forever ago they were accused of selling horse meat right?

My guess, Ben and Jerry's is from "super liberal" Vermont. As for Aldi . . . refer to my earlier joke about cashiers being allowed to sit down.

I mean I know Chick-fil-A hates gay people but their nuggets are still crack.

See ..i found peace with that because im thinking the CEO or whatever that made those comments took the brunt of that blowback.

The one here definitely employs gay men and Uncle Bobby still eats there...so no sense in me not getting 12 minis and 6 poly sauces.

The main reason Walmart failed  is that war mart nice dose not work in Europe, but Aldi does work as a budget grocery store with an efficient way to shop

Germany was the only country Walmart opened in Europe. It did not work because Germans thought the friendly American style customer service was fake, which is indeed true, and they have strict labor laws that don't allow Walmart to give their workers the shaft like they do here in America.
