discolé monade Posted March 6 Posted March 6 European Union leaders are holding emergency talks to agree on ways to quickly increase their military budgets after the Trump administration signaled that Europe must take care of its own security and also suspended assistance to Ukraine. 5 Quote
Dark_Cloud_Overhead Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Trump changes course, delays tariffs on most imports from Mexico until April ::rubs neck:: Anyone else feeling a little whiplash? This whole tariff thing has just become a big joke. Nay, it probably always was. I was thinking this all might be intended to create chaos in the markets and open up opportunities for people in the circle around him to make a big grift off the ups and downs, but it just seems so haphazard that it's probably too generous to ascribe any kind of rational thought to what's more likely just pure buffoonery. 2 Quote

Trump seems to get fixated on things and unable to let them go. It's like they take over his mind, like fentanyl, tariffs and Greenland. If he had any sort of strategy, he would've been trying to find a way to pull the wool over everyone's eyes on Social Security and Medicaid. He didn't do that, he just kept pressing with his obsessions. The only thing that seems to have made him stagger on tariffs is the stock market, which he seems even more obsessed with as it is his personal barometer of how well he is doing. 4 Quote

After World War II we basically made them put in their constitution that they can't have any kind of real army. How the f*@! are they supposed to protect us?! Seriously, somebody there should just tell him they have an emperor. If he thinks someone like a Sith Lord in charge there, he might actually show them some real respect and lay off. 3 Quote
Raptorpat Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Does he know of any "fair" alliances or is the goal just to pull America out of the US-centric post WWII world order and revert to pre-WWI "great empires" carving the world up between themselves? 5 Quote

Dark_Cloud_Overhead Posted March 8 Posted March 8 (edited) Heated clash: Donald Trump and Justin Trudeau’s post-tariff call reportedly turns explosive, filled with profanity and tense exchanges Something tells me this part of the trade war at least ain't gonna end anytime soon, especially since it seems to have considerably strengthened Trudeau's liberal party's position heading into the upcoming elections there, taking them from what looked like a total wipeout to having a solid shot at actually winning. Talk about unintended consequences, heh. Edited March 8 by Dark_Cloud_Overhead 6 Quote

1pooh4u Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Trump basically saying “shut up about egg prices” by sharing the Charlie Kirk article. Not surprised I’ve seen it said more than once that “liberals are obsessed with the price of eggs” and I gotta tell ya, shit like that makes me wanna commit.,.,.nvm just that’s literally ALL THEY TALKED ABOUT PRIOR TO THE ELECTIONS 🤯😆 6 Quote

Jman Posted March 10 Posted March 10 My broker is still optimistic about a rebound but he’s put my stuff in a more defensive stance for the next quarter to be safe. But the economy is tanking, because it turns out that running on vibes, hate, and tarrifs is stupid. Honestly if the idea is to piss people off enough there’s enough goodwill towards mass infrastructure projects to employ people, they’re on their way. 3 Quote
rpgamer Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Nah, I'm 100% on board with believing they're intentionally tanking the market so all the stock bros can buy cheap to inflate their worth when shit settles down (i.e. when everyone realizes how bad Rs are for economy [again] and expect Dems to fix everything [again]). Just a question/matter of how easy it will be to undo what has been done, and the nature of the deeper consequences.. 3 Quote

discolé monade Posted March 31 Posted March 31 Trump to Announce Country-Based Reciprocal Tariffs Wednesday now i'm REALLY interested in this. that is...i'm REALLY interested to see what ag and textile will be in this. congress approved an additional bailout for cotton growers here. in this area, it's 85$/acre of cotton, with most fields in the hundreds (you can maths), with additional support for failing market......m'kay. i'm going to take a wild guess and i would place bets that these "farmers" - and i do use that term loosely - that are field to port only will be hit hardest. i actually hope so. NOTHING stays in this country. nothing. cotton, peanutes, soy. next i would say vehicles for obvious reasons. and finally, i think beef. again...same "farms" raise cattle that is...you guessed it: farm to port only. NOTHING stays here. just adding my 2cents that absoulutly NO ONE but me asked for. lol 3 Quote

I also got to look into tariffs countries place on our goods. Idk if these 100% and 300% or 50% tariffs are even real and if they are real, does the tariff get placed on the goods all the time or does something have to trigger the tariff? Nothing Trump ever says is ever true or completely true. I hate that he makes me have to look shit up. It’s like the son of a bitch is giving me homework. 🫠😆🫠 4 Quote
discolé monade Posted April 1 Posted April 1 the 'farmers' (those that i mention farm to port, not for american consumption) are some of the biggest welfare queens to date. they make money when they fail this is from 2023, In 2023, the median income from farming for households operating commercial family farms was $167,550, with a median total household income of $253,496, while the median total household income for all farm households was $97,984, exceeding the median for all U.S. households 2. Subsidies: Federal farm subsidy programs can significantly impact farmer income. Examples of programs include: PLC (Price Loss Coverage) - $33 billion in taxpayer costs projected for FY24-33. Highly subsidized federal crop insurance - $101 billion in taxpayer costs projected for FY24-33. ARC (Agriculture Risk Coverage) - $19 billion in taxpayer costs projected for FY24-33. It's important to note that the vast majority of farmers do not benefit from federal farm subsidy programs, and the subsidies tend to go to the largest and most financially secure farm operations. this would be the industrial farmers - field to port not your farmers markets and those small farms that you see fail every year. 3. Tax Breaks: Farmers can benefit from various tax breaks, including: State Tax Credits . Renewable Energy Credits . Research and Development (R&D) Tax Credits . Earned Income Tax Credit for Farmers with Low Income . Conservation Expense Deductions . Depreciation . It's crucial to track all expenditures and understand taxable income and deductions. 4. Insurance Pay Outs: Farmers often rely on crop insurance to protect against losses due to natural disasters or other unforeseen events. The amount of insurance payouts can vary greatly depending on the type of crop, the location, and the severity of the event. 1 4 Quote
