I think I'm not gonna renew my youtube subscription this month. I'm tired of their bullshit algorithm, and there is just so much AI generated garbage being recommended to me. I guess I'll deal with the ads, as they give me negative reinforcement to not watch as often. 

The thing is I'm still gonna pay for ChatGPT Plus. It's too useful a tool for foreign language learning. It has been fairly accurate when it comes to calorie counting.

I’m being randomly bombarded with ads for “affordable housing in your area” today. 

But the one ad I accidentally clicked on was talking about housing clear across the country. Why must you toy with me like this, internet? Why?

Since team USA won the gold medal in hockey I'm going to make a bold ass prediction and if I'm wrong I'll the hold the L, a Canadian team will the Stanley Cup this year. I predict that the third time will be a charm and the Edmonton Oilers get it done.

I normally love Aldi products, but their Fiber One knockoff bars are absolutely horrible. The number one ingredient is fructo-oligosaccharides, which I won't pretend to know what it is, but you can fell it's heavily processed. Add that to a high amount of sugar alcohols and you get a product that causes intense bloating. I had one and just trashed the rest.

This absolutely does not matter at all. I just thought it was kind of funny in a stupid way.

Oh good. I spent probably half an hour searching Tubi for a movie to watch, and finally settled on some slasher centered on…social media influencers…

I’ll just keep it on as background noise while I play around on my phone. That’s what I do most nights, anyway. 🤷‍♂️

Are the streets still crawling with taxis, or has rideshares like Uber and Lyft taken a big chunk out of their business?

I've been in a decluttering mood lately. I fixed my feed on reddit and turned off the homepage on youtube and unsubbed from many channels. I'm also going through my storage unit and slowly getting rid of things. They recently increased my price by 20 dollars, and this was the first push into my wanting to declutter. The price is not worth it anymore. I would have been a customer for another few years, but they just had to be greedy. Oh well. Now, I want to declutter so many aspects of my life. Life, lemons, and lemonade, I guess.

It’s pretty much business as usual in Manhattan. Staten Island is fucked with a lot of streets left unplowed including some of the most high traffic avenues in the borough

Uber/Lyft competes less with Manhattan taxicabs than they do with other legacy FHV sectors like black car, limo, livery, and commuter vans.

Each for-hire vehicle sector has its own host of regulations, and the Uber/Lyft business model to undercut everyone (in addition to relying on part time labor) was to claim they were intrinsically different and none of the existing reg schemes applied.

The New York City Council created a new FHV license class I believe in 2018 for "high-volume" services which allows the City to impose regs solely on Uber/Lyft. They also enacted a license moratorium at the same time because Uber/Lyft had grown out of control and congestion was at its peak, but the moratorium actually benefitted the high-volume companies at the expense of the other FHV sectors because they could just poach drivers/licenses and the other sectors couldn't afford to do anything about it.

I turned the youtube homepage back on after unsubbing from hundreds of channels and Jesus, I never realized just how toxic the algorithm truly is. It's staying off, perhaps permanently. It now kinda reminds me of the old youtube, and I say kinda because the old youtube still gave you recommendations but they weren't hyper-focused on your viewing habits.
