I always avoided pineapple on pizza because it sounded so nasty. That is, until a friend brought me a couple of slices that he made at home. It was actually pretty good.

When I went to Philly for [as] Fest I remember being so let down by their pie. Pretty sure it made me sick.

all chicago's got going for it, is thick deep dish, so if you're into crust, than chi'town is your place.

nyc pizza is large, flat, and just right for folding, but that' doesn't make it superior.

now, i'm not saying the greeks know what they're doing, but the greeks know what they're doing: that is, every greek ownen pizzeria was absolutely some of the best. some had deep dish some had thin style. 

but this joint was in cali - killer pizza from mars, and i'm pretty sure they were martians. so mars has the best pizza.

so here's where I'm at on the pizza vs pizza thing

as a NY'er if you can fold it in half and it maintains the shape...that stiff sexy triangle and no flop....perfect slice of pie

OR

there is the tomato pie: square, cheese on the bottom, sauce on the top, crispy edges, soft middle, solid square.....perfect slice of pie

then there's chicago: deep dish, flaky crispy crust, loads of toppings, have to eat it with a fork or it falls apart.....perfect helping of CASSEROLE....ITS A GOD DAMNED CASSEROLE....ITS NOT A SLICE....

I remember @tsar4 declaring that deep dish really isn't the quintessential Chicago Pizza.  It seems to be more of a tourist thing..

Deep Dish isn't a casserole either - it's more akin to a focaccia (literally hearth bread, which is basically a leavened flatbread with various toppings on it), but it has some ancient ties to a type of pizza that's particular to Rome, pizza blanca.

I got to try it in college...it wasn't bad but not something I ever needed to do again. But if you get the opportunity, it's worth a try.

Nobody wants to sit around waiting over an hour for food, unless they've planned for it.  If you're just out & about with friends and get hungry in Chicago for pizza, you're gonna get Chicago tavern style.

Last time, I went with my bro to the Giordano’s next to Midway, and I liked the tavern style way better than anything else I’ve had in Chi.
