ITN: Former President Carter (no longer) in Hospice Care

Former President Carter is perhaps the most famous for what he has done after his Presidency than for what he did during his time in the White House. He is famous for working with Habitat for Humanity and building houses. The images of him on construction sights are pretty iconic.

Based on the above report from NBC its looking like this is just about it.

His term as president can probably be described as mediocre at best, but he's arguably done more good for the world afterwards than any other man who's held the office.

I wouldn’t say his presidency was mediocre, but it was derailed by a few events that were completely outside of his control.  His post presidency gives us a glimpse at what could have been, but it has also shone as an example for Presidents after him on how to comport themselves.

He basically set the bar for what a post-presidency should look like.

I dont think there is another former President who has done as much as he has.

Like you had already pointed out, he built houses for poor people. Physically. It wasn't a photo op, he wasn't on Instagram posing with a hammer mid-swing for likes. Sometimes he would just show up and people didn't even know he was going to be part of things. And he did it until he couldn't do it anymore. No matter what any other former President attempts, unless they are physically in the background somewhere quietly building houses for poor people with no thoughts of publicity, it won't be Jimmy Carter level.

I thought hospice care was for people who were dying imminently but I guess it’s for anyone with a terminal illness who’s no longer receiving medical care for said illness but instead are receiving supportive care until the inevitable happens.

Yeah, hospice is just comfort care. You stay home or in a home-like setting and there's a bunch of numbers that can be called to set off a chain of events when the patient either passes or is going to soon.

Well, crap.

Jimmy Carter is likely going to go to sleep within a week now, his greatest friend and love of his life has passed on. I was really hoping he'd make it to 100.

I turned on the Rosalynn Carter funeral and Jimmy does not look great (obviously). Basically in a mobile hospital bed in the front row with a suit jacket and blanket on, head tilted back back/mouth open.

Yeah I thought for sure he was going to die soon after his wife. Then last night I saw the article saying he’s reaching the end and I thought “he’s going to be dead by morning” At this point he might outlive all of us. Seriously I have no idea how he’s still alive.
