well, fucking bring it then.

i'm so over this 'christian nationalist' bullshit.

THIS IS why church and state need to be separate. invoking violence in the name of the 'lord' is some kind of bullshit.

Ultimately, the Bible serves as a fierce rebuke to decades of Republican Party orthodoxy. Much like Jesus’ command that his followers must choose between “God and money,” Christian Republicans must choose between their political inclinations and their faith. To borrow from the Bible, they “cannot serve both.”

I am firmly convinced that if Jesus did come back tomorrow, the very first thing he'd do would be to walk up to her and punch her right in the tits.

PA is tightening up a bit as well. Fettermans health is absolutely starting to become a factor in this race. The debate they have scheduled in October is going to be a huge moment. If Fetterman cant make it through the debate then Oz might actually win this thing.

Which is crazy, because he is a freaking horrible candidate.

This looks so bad. Hard to watch those clips of him struggling to spit out something coherent. I didn't know about his auditory disorder requiring closed captioning, wonder how the debate can accommodate that... Are they going to let him use tech to transcribe his opponent's comments to text in real time and constantly pause for several seconds to read them before responding? Sounds awkward to watch.

And yeah, these tight polls are a horrible sign for the Dems given the intrinsic bonus poll results have given to Democratic candidates in recent history.

Polling aside, debates have never really changed many minds. If folks were going to vote for Fetterman or Oz, the debates won't change their minds.

Agree to disagree re: debates having never changed minds, however I'd say this won't be a traditional debate as much as a public test/display of basic faculties for the candidate who just suffered a massive stroke which he acknowledges nearly killed him. If he can't make words right or understand what people are saying to him it could change some minds.

Again, I don't think it makes much of a difference. Biden won against Trump despite sounding like a senile old man because people hated Trump. If enough people hate Oz, they will vote for Fetterman regardless of his stroke.

Once again, if Jesus were to return tomorrow a fair percentage of "Christians" would be like "Guys, seriously, what is the deal with this hippie?"

True Biden's senile moments didn't sink him vs the similarly aged and widely hated incumbent, but there is a stark presentation difference between a stuttering gaffe-prone elderly politician who still appeared capable and comfortable in many recent televised debates for hours at a time, even that one against an unhinged dietpilled-out Trump, and a man in his early 50s recovering from a recent debilitating stroke who is currently unable to properly process and understand what people are saying to him or speak clear coherent sentences for seemingly any length of time.

It will be a close race and Oz is going to get a lot of votes. PA is a state that voted for Trump. A healthy Fetterman could siphon off some of these Trump voters with his big oaf energy but if he can't understand words or speak them in a way that makes sense to people I think that might be a pretty big deal breaker for some of those voters.

PA is a state that voted for Trump in 2016. He lost it in 2020. Sure, Oz will get lots of votes but if people don't like him enough, it won't matter if Fetterman can debate or not in his current condition.

They really don't. They think everyone else is the bad guy for not conforming to their christo-fascist ideals.

I really have to disagree with that one.

Do you think Jingo posts here because he wants to show us the error of our ways and join him in making the world (his version of) a better place? Bucket?

No.

They want to upset people. They want to harm people. They want a reaction out of people. For attention.

They're four-year-olds shitting on the floor while making direct eye contact.

They don't really understand what words like "fascism" means (If they did understand it, and believed that they were good people, they wouldn't engage in it). They don't really understand Christianity (obviously), they only use it as a cudgel.

Because they don't want to make the world "better"; not even in the skewed, white-christian-capitalist utopia you imagine they want.

They don't want that because it wouldn't be any fun not harming people and watching others cry because of their actions.

They know they are bad people.

They relish in it.

No but they do believe they are making the world a better place. They want to remove the world of their enemies because they think they are protagonists and everyone else is evil. It is a delusion they accept because it absolves them of any type of personal responsibility. They think they are "good" people and everyone else is a degenerate or enemy of their ideology.

We are seeing the same thing here that bloomed into fascists being voted into power in Italy and Germany. People afraid of the world changing around them so they adopt reactionary politics because they think those changes are wrong. They think they are the heroes but they are wrong. And I doubt many of them will have that awakening that they were wrong.

There is a historical precedent for what's happening in this country. We have legions who think they are right when they are enabling hatred that they believe that God endorses. They are all sheep.

Jingo here smugly thinks he is right and thus he can get away with saying whatever he does here because he thinks we are the wrong idiots. He thinks he's the good guy. He thinks he wins because he can get a rise out of us and expose how we are dumb.

We need to accept that this is radicalization. This is people brainwashed by the GOP/QAnon/MAGA cult who have been taught that they are the good ones when they are clearly not in sane and actually decent world.

If we flatten them out as mustache twirling devils, we underestimate them and we really risk losing everything.

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2022/senate/az/arizona-senate-masters-vs-kelly-7390.html

Arizona is now tightening up as well.  Lake has an outright lead for the Governors race, and Kelly has seen his lead start to shrink. I thought that AZ was pretty safe for Democrats because the GOP candidates are pure garbage. But maybe not. The national atmosphere may be just so overwhelming that it drowns out how shitty the GOP candidates are.

I thought the discussion was about sponges' "Boy howdy"'s, he begins like half his political posts like that.

Hey, fuck off.

Boy howdy is how i begin half my sentences irl.

Its called being from rural Wisconsin.

Its a legitimate part of my lexicon.

Most of my sentences end in "i tell ya what."

Because i do.

I don't believe I've mentioned it here but the MAGA congressional candidate for my district, Darius Mayfield actually went door to door in my neighborhood to lock in votes. The guy is a real smooth operator - he's black and is trying to sweep aside racial tension and other very real problems in this country. His slogan is "Not Black. Not White. American." He's very clever at downplaying it but he outright calls himself an America First candidate so yikes.

Anyway, he came to my door and asked me if I would vote for him. I lied and said yes to get him to leave. Then he wanted to put a yard sign up. I declined. Then he wanted to get a picture with me. Declined. I found this extremely annoying and disruptive. So now I like the guy even less. I really hope he doesn't win in our district. Our county is Republican but the municipalities are more mixed so we will see.

We need to watch out for MAGA candidates that present themselves as "common sense" and reasonable because at their core, they believe the same things as all the crazies but they're just more quiet about the crazy parts.

How come you didn't tell matrixman to fuck off? He's the one who gave me the idea that the MAGA crowd loves, "Boy howdy." 😆

Anyway, if you took real offense (not sure if joking or not) but if so, I apologize.

But I must ask a follow-up question that may, but I hope doesn't offend you: When you say, " I tell ya what," do you say it like Hank Hill with emphasis on the H?

I don't think Sponges is a MAGA supporter lol

Ah yeah it really sounded like you were saying he was a MAGA supporter from the way you were wording that. I mean a lot of people talk in the dialect. The whole point is that politicians do indulge in local dialects to try and be more relatable with the voters. Doesn't mean the Boy Howdy folks are necessarily all MAGA supporters. That was where I was coming from haha

Not offended, just flexing with angry language.

The hard H pronunciation is more of a southwest thing, although i do this thing where i put a long H in front of W sometimes.

Think it might be a German thing.
