Not that I'm invested but if you would just take Stilgar's advice, your selfies would look more feminine. Slap some lip gloss or something on for color

I don't have any lip gloss but might buy some at some point.

I've also had people tell me that in the year since I started transitioning, my facial features have softened. I didn't start with, say, a square jaw, though. The features I started with were pretty androgynous; I've had people tell me I look younger than I really am. My mom, grandparents, aunts, and therapists have noticed the most changes to my face.

As one of my daughters once told her grandmother, "There is no beauty without make-up."

Look up a tutorial on 'Swan Neck' for selfies. There's got to be one out there, there are tutorials for everything else on the planet. It helps kill the double-feature chin that appears on poor selfies.

Do not go 'Duck Lips' though, it's played out and stupid. Most people look like they've been hit in the face with a sock full of bees. Or bullheads. They have bitch-stingers too and are more than happy to use them.

Frickin' Dollar Tree. They have make-up, it's cheap so you aren't out massive amounts while trying things out and it's still functional. Simple eyeliner and some gloss with a hint of tint because you don't know what color works for you otherwise you'd have tried lipstick by now anyway. It'll draw attention to the eyes most, lips slightly second due to the coloring, and away from jawlines and double-features.

And bare in mind that all this advice is coming from someone who has only really posted their cleavage because they hate taking pics but do like annoying the bloody hell out of people and who also does do a lot of weird things with make-up for the focusing effects but not necessarily glamour shots.

1. On top of the selfie tutorials, I might invest in a selfie stick. All too often, I've had to delete selfies off my phone because they came out too blurry or I otherwise didn't like how they turned out.

2. I've never done duckfaces and never will. So 2009.

3. So far, I've only bought makeup from Wally World and even then, it's been mainly primer and foundation. I have other stuff that my therapist and her receptionists have hooked me up with, but I haven't used all of it yet. But I live a short drive from a Dollar Tree so I could find some eyeliner and lip gloss there. As for the gloss, I might have to bring my mom, aunt, or some other female relative with me to help find what color works for me. All I know is that I'm not a fan of red. At least I started with full lips; made some cis women jealous.

4. There is no four.

The only difference between the two pictures up there is the glasses.

Just get new glasses.

Do not go with a full strong red, even as a tinted lip gloss, right off the bat. You don't know if it will age you or look tacky. GSH used a bright dust rose on her photo shop, aim for that sort of color and work towards emphasizing your eyes in simple terms instead.

And yes, maybe new glasses to help draw that attention up and away from the chin.

Bright dust rose...got it.

The most I've ever done with my eyes is the odd bit of mascara. I don't do anything with my lashes most of the time, and I started out with good lashes. Been getting by with a natural look so far.

New glasses sound par for the course. When you say they'd draw attention up and away from my chin, what do you mean? I don't think I started out with a very "manly" chin. Is it because of the scar? Something else?

I'm gonna break down what I did to your picture and what is realistic to help you both take better pictures and just look more feminine in general.

Hair is a big factor. I styled your hair and gave it more volume while draping it over your shoulders. You'll have to find which product works best for you, but I advise not doing full washes on your hair (i.e. using products) more than every other day, so around 3 times a week. The rest is just taking a brush and styling it. All I did was part your hair in the middle and feather it out to drape in the front. Having it drape forward over the neck also makes your neck look thinner.

I made the frame on your glasses a wider, full frame pair that was sort of cat eye style. I think the slightly thicker frames work better with your face shape.

For lip gloss, I just used a bolder pink color. Nothing too crazy, just accenting the natural color of your lips with a darker coloration. This is going to compliment your eyes and draw the gaze back and forth from your lips and eyes.

I applied a bit of an ivory look to your face, which can be achieved with very simple foundation if you desire. Nothing fancy here. Otherwise I put a simple eyeliner around your eyes. Mascara would be nice here, too, maybe something that adds volume to your lashes.

Your pose and angle are the biggest factors in taking pictures. I didn't change your angle but I swapped your pose to have your chin sticking out a lot more. Looks more flattering.

Beyond that it was simple brightness and contrast with a bit of color modification to look more appealing. I could have done more to clean it up but this was a rush job to show you how to quickly look more feminine and have a better picture. While I did thin out and stretch your eyebrows a bit, don't worry about this too much. It certainly helps but just avoid letting them become bushes. Another minor tweak was to your top. I pulled it down a bit and made the shape a wider, almost semi circle. A lot of women's clothing has this deep, circular cut, often to show cleavage.

I really don't think that picture on the right is a realistic outcome for her . . . I'll say no more.

I think there was a South Park episode on this.

I can only do so much in 10 minutes, homie. Wasn't trying to make a hyper realistic blueprint nor an uncanny valley air brushed image of social media's version of perfection.

1. My hair has two main instructions: Wash and wear. I had my hair swept around to my right (your left) in that selfie because I didn't want my bird to get caught in it. I wanted to show both me and him in the selfie.

2. Next time I get new glasses, I'll look into a cat eye frame. Same color as what I have now, though; I like black.

3. The bold pink color you used for my lips in the Photoshop looks good. I think I might give that a try. As I've established before, I go for as natural of a look as possible, but I can add some more drip.

4. While I have lighter foundation, I found that it was too light for my skin. I tan easily.

5. Every time I take a selfie, I keep getting that double-chin effect. I don't want to look like I'm staring at the floor, but not like I'm staring at the ceiling, either. I got the same effect when I changed my name and gender marker on my ID and had my new photo taken. That always happens for some reason. I tried sticking my chin out a bit more but don't want to look like I have shitty posture or am craning my neck all funny.

6. I wear the glasses that I wear to hide my eyebrows. What do you do, trim them? I've been plucking around the edges this whole time.

Your pics as current tend to draw attention to your chin and chin isn't really a great part of most people's faces. It's a chin. And there's only so much you can do for a chin. But you can do things to your eyes and lips to make them the focus of the face and leave the chin to the background.

You don't need to line the entire eye, light line across the top should help you to see what is possible while still retaining your more desired natural look.

Y'all are so kind to help this deluded child out, but you've all been to this rodeo before....giving advice to someone too stubborn to understand the help has passed suggestions and teetering on imperatives.....

But glad this got spliced out

The other thread is for posting selfies and potentially getting good-naturedly ribbed for it.

Plus, can't help it. Con season and I'm digging through make-ups, mapping things out, and mapping make-ups around a mask mandate.

Why are we trying to help this piece of shit again?

If they've posted anything that touches the level of rancid crap they hit in Rants on Aug. 16th, by all means let me know of it because there are always conditions.

Otherwise, consider this a test.

If bucket could have passed it he would still be here and there are those that didn't have a problem talking to him when he wasn't in full shit-bag mode. Granted I think they were just sitting with popcorn waiting for the inevitable but meh.

Don't pluck from the top unless they're really obvious strays. Always pluck along the bottom of the brow - you always want to kind of open up your eyes, not look grumpy.

Find a tutorial about how to do whatever shapes are popular now (I'm still doing the same basic shape I was doing in the 80s, or I'd offer more suggestions, but the one thing I do know is NEVER pluck from the top down, always from the bottom up.)

Last time I plucked was a few nights ago and did that from the bottom and outside ends. I get a lot of strays in that area of the brow. For a while, I've been debating with myself on whether to do an eyebrow slit as well and if so, which eyebrow I want to do it on.

As for my lips, I've been getting by with lip balm this whole time. I'd like to try lip gloss but I chap easily no matter how often I balm up.

What, pray tell, is an eyebrow slit? In simple terms for my feeble boomer brain, please.

Don't know if anyone noticed in the main selfie thread but I tried a different angle when I took the selfies with my bottle of Carolina Reaper hot sauce this afternoon (EDT). I also had my hair down and moved to the front to make my neck look thinner in those pics. I tried the angle because of the light coming from the skylight in my kitchen and I also wanted to capture both myself and the sauce bottle and do it well.

As for an eyebrow slit, I have a razor with a trimmer blade on the back. Think I might use that to shave a slit in one or both brows.
