i am not a huge fan of oregano.

i mean, i don't hate the substance. i won't screw up my face and return the dish to the chef for re-seasoning.

i just don't think it really adds much to the flavor profile, and i've never once thought to myself, "you know what this dish needs? more fucking oregano."

i have, however, eaten dishes that had too much and it's pretty easy to do as it can be strong if overused.

so, yeah. i'm meh on oregano.

unless we're using oregano as a euphemism for pot.

in which case, this dish needs more fucking oregano.

I ... actually cant tell you what oregano tastes like. If it calls for it in a recipe I sprinkle it until it looks like its enough but ... I have no idea if it adds anything

it has this strange, i don't want to call it a flavor, metallic "quality" to it. i think that's why i find it can be overpowering if over used.

but yeah, i couldn't really describe its "flavor" either.

I love it. I use it in my chicken quesadillas. I add it to the crock pot and slow cook the chicken all day until its falling the bones. That shit is dynamite.

well everyone tastes things differently. i've heard, for example, that some people don't like cilantro because, to them, it tastes like soap.

maybe my taste buds just aren't dialed in to oregano.

also, do you know where i can get some "oregano" which is clearly a euphemism for something else?

You know what I wasn't so hot on the stuff before, but then like two years ago I just kept thinking "this shit needs more Oregano" damn near every time I ate and now it's constant

Read some time ago that most of what we term "Oregano" is actually Mexican Sage.

Oregano comes off as a placebo herb. You can add it into an Italian seasoning blend, a sandwich, or a Mexican dish, but it doesn’t make a lasting impression. Even if you sprinkle it on pizza, it gets lost in the cheese.
