For best case scenario, getting fans of Adult Swim and Toonami on-board would help normify the community to the point of palatability. Just send in swarms of anime and [as] fans. Anyone really, but those demographics would probably find this place to be rather charming.

Ideally, something to switch up the "prison of lost souls" atmosphere the current boards have where people who are old enough to know better are still taking part in immature e-slapfights. Or at least giving newbies a Cliffnotes version of all the messiness so that they can catch up on so that they too will be able to decipher 12 pages of in-references from hell. It can be a PDF with hoohas, roadkill cooking, casual racism, giggle-chills, kegalspasms, and a timeline of drama that stems all the way back to the mid-2000's.

There was originally a subsection envisioned to act as a hub for "artists" - it's here, but it's invisible because there are no boards set up.

I might be able to find more intent on the freeforums, but it was intended less for people to show off/sell their wares than it was for creative types to get together or help each other and stuff like that.

I had discussed with Luuv about using the forum as a sort of test audience or supplementary platform for creativity. That includes the graphic novel I'm working on, which was a part of what he and I were thinking of. I wouldn't want this to be my primary platform; I'd have my own website and social media for that, but it was nice to consider sharing early ideas and content with people I sort of knew. 

Likewise, creative competitions would be great. We've done a writing one here and we used to do other things on the [as] boards, like poetry, art, and even videos. Curating those types of things would go a long way without needing financial incentive or setting up shop.

  I heard about that. Luuv and I discussed that a bit, as well as the Bricen Chronicles area, which was designed for play by post type gaming.

I think we should look to be something more unique than reddit/4chan lite. I'm not sure where we can really advertise for creative and artistic types, unless we look for tumblr ex-pats (minus the porn), or various smaller writer/creative content forums. I think we have an existing creative arts area, we just don't have a lot of people sharing.

Again, and I hate to repeat myself but I will if I must, the overall level of toxicity here has to be lowered significantly if we have any realistic desire to attract and retain new members.

Off subject, but could help financially, probably not, but, when someone gets banned, they can pay to be unbanned? 

Like, let's say I got banned for a week, and there is a 10 dollar fee I can pay in order to lift the ban. Or 2 dollars for each day of the ban, it can be paid to lift the ban. So if I were banned for a week, I could pay 14 dollars and be out of banned land.

I'm sure that's dumb, but just throwing out stuff.

while i don't necessarily think it's a bad idea, it doesn't appear this forum software makes it too easy to monetize user actions. maybe i'm wrong, but there have been several monetization ideas in the past and they were all eventually dismissed.

there's a paypal to make donations, yes. but in order to do a pay-to-reinstate scheme, someone would have to be monitoring the paypal pretty much constantly, and then manually attach the donation to an un-ban action. no one is interested in putting forth that much effort.

Re: Anime, I'd kinda question how... idk, worth it, it would be to try to boost that crowd. I would definitely love if the anime discussion were more on the level of the old days, when things actually got discussed, rather than the current play-by-plays that everyone does. As is, advertising for new members interested in Toonami, I'm just not really sure how much we have to offer for them here, especially given other options I imagine exist. For non-[as] anime, seems like it'd be even harder to justify new folks feeling like this is the place to be. Idunno man. Maybe all we need is enough new blood to shift the environment to something different. It certainly wouldn't be a bad thing. Just, sorta, putting myself in the position of someone new, and trying to consider what there is here that would keep me here.

On that note, shitposting. I mean, that's basically our niche. I suppose if that's our vibe, we don't really need to clean up all our shit posters. I've always sorta thought that if this place was ever going to grow and develop the sort of community we had in our heyday, we'd be better off trying to remove several members that are universally reviled. Basically, all the garbage that's still here that drove off so many good users. Because if that shit pushed some dedicated members to bail, there's little real chance of retaining anyone new with it still around.

But if it's made clear we're basically all just here to rip on each other, maybe it's not as bad as I thought.

If you want to start getting people together, go for it. I don't think streaming is integral to making it a regular thing - I think you can set ssbu lobbies to hold up to eight people.

All it takes is someone to say "hey let's play on x night, I'll set up the lobby" and then for people to play. Extra things like streaming are secondary.

Yes. I can do that. Streaming is a great way to expose MORE people to it, also, a way for people to keep up with the stats, game, etc. worst case, it’s there for posterity’s sake.

As for Jackbox, streaming is the ONLY way to get people to play.

Some do. Not really, though. I don’t see ANY Nintendo streams compared to everything else. For every 5000 other streams, there’s one Nintendo game stream.
