FYi I dropped Darling in the Franxx around Episode 16 or so.  I can't remember which exactly. I definitely didn't see Dr. Franxx's backstory.

a looot of People started dropping it around ep 16 for various reasons

they started haphazardly retconning plot points they'd previously been setting up in that episode

  1. like they were implying the Klaxxosaurs were mutated humans, then nope, totally unrelated species,
  2. they implied Mitsuru couldn't pilot with Ikuno cause he was gay and in love with Hiro, then NOPE turns out he just wanted to fuck Kokoro this whole time
  3. they introduce the nines and imply they might be gay, then nope they're Klaxxosaurs and therefor cannot be gay due to having different reprodictive needs than humans and the show specifically says it's inhuman to be gay and being gay inherently makes you an irredeemable bastard

ect.

that was the point the series just....fucked itself in every direction and only got worse from that point on

Demarco dun good!

Seriously, don't agree with many decisions that guy makes but that's a good one right there. The only problem is.....

He's gonna air TG 3 and 4 instead. You know he will.

But it's made by Trigger, the creators of Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill!  How bad could it be?!

DEMARCO, YOU DUN GOOFED!

Jesus Christ please God no!  AND THERE'S A FOUR NOW?!

Am I the only one who thought of it as meh instead of crap? And is there a point to me stating such?

It had its ups and downs, but it definitely veered into a complete train wreck of retardation at the end. It was actually a frustrating series because I felt like the pieces were there....  but they didn't put in the effort.

From what I've read they basically came up with the concepts and designs first and then just threw a story together around those designs. That's not how you write anything that's going to be good.

The 3rd season was two cours but they're calling cour 2 S4 for some reason. I have not even been tempted to look at it. Youtube even knows not to try to suggest that I watch a clip. It knows better.

It was only partially made by Trigger since it was a co-production, the lead staff was mostly A-1 Pictures.

Thought Darling had potential but I stopped watching it. I still want to finish it at some point but from what I have heard most others did not care for it and for me to stop watching it says a lot when I hear that as well. Makes me think maybe I made the right choice. So yeah Toonami passing on it is probably a good idea.

had they stuck to the ending they were originally hinting at, rather than veer wildly off course and retcon everything into an ending that made absolutely no sense it could've been great

The whole Virm thing was a bit of a left turn.

I found DITF to be relatively inoffensive for the most part, but I can definitely agree that the story just did not click together properly.  Like, first it starts out like an EVA clone, then it decides it wants to reconstruct EVA...  and that's not even considering the massive lapses in judgement and common sense that have to be necessary for some of the character relationships to develop (I'm looking at you, Mitsuru).

I’m just sensibly chuckling one of the bigger shows this fall is a remake of Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad.  And it’s inspiring the most fan art, because an artist had to let everyone know about his preference for thighs.

Also, did you know that Tsuburaya is actually disallowing the sale of SSSS.GRIDMAN doujins at this year's Comiket?

They’re releasing body pillows and the like too, the hypocrites.

If they think that’s gonna stop the Rikka lewds, hoo boy, they have another thing coming.

A fellow man of culture.

I'm not a power-weeb, so I had to look up who that is.

Anyways, this is the best I got on the subject. Enjoy.

Honestly, I didn't care for Darling in the Franxx that much. I don't like that many mecha shows to start with but I just felt like the show was pretentious for what it was doing. It's one of those animes that kind of checks all the right boxes visually and thematically but falls short of actual story and plot. I would say it's like the SAO of mecha, but that is just my personal opinion.

It promised a solid sci-fi story about rebellion uprisings and epic alien fights, and character deaths.

Instead we get 90% shot full of moe faces, a confusing ending, and no main character deaths except for the two main couples who just "go to another level of existence."

The writing was specifically tailored to focus on the teenage moe angst and romances, sacrificing anything that would've made it dignified and sensible.

The first 6 episodes were pretty darn good. After that, it was just a whole lot of "huh?" And then the twist at the end...

Yet, maybe because I still liked its style, I stuck with it and saw it through to the end.

But did they really ascend to a higher plane, especially since they got reincarnated in far future...?  Also, what was the point of making 02 merge and form a new being with Strelizia if they were just going to kill her off in the last episode?  Just to make some point that "love is love no matter the form?"  I'm sorry, but that's not the kind of point for this show to be making.  If I want a mecha with a good romance, I'll turn to Eureka Seven.

I think the only big thing the ending did that I truly liked was kill off the leads.  I would be genuinely pissed at the ending if they ended up living.

which is a point that would have been made far better if the show hadn't asserted that Homosexuality is a non-human trait and if they had let Mitsuru and Ikuno be gay

DitF shat the bed earlier by focusing on the doomed love triangle and teen drama crap, but then when they played their cards on what the main plot would be, that turned out to be even crappier.

The best part about the show is the Zero Two flashback episode, the main couple’s big confession, and rubbing one out to hentai of Zero Two and Kokoro. Otherwise, it did a good job at disappointing everyone very early on unlike Trigger’s other efforts (save for Kiznaiver and Where Magic Becomes Commonplace)
