DragonSinger
My sickly ass just didn't get a lot of good angles because I was to weak to even move much. This got set up when I went to see @katt_goddess who was at the Venture Brothers table. Doggy!
Popular Post DragonSinger
They were doing like a casino Avengers type deal, but some of their friends had wandered off. I do wonder what the whole group looked like together. They were giving out DragonCon chips too. I could almost see sparkles around him. This sucker actually rolled pretty damn quickly. 9
katt_goddess
I gots to see the @SorceressPol person! Be jealous, numb nuts. You missed Venture hell on Earth on Sunday. That entire area was filled to capacity with henchmen, Monarchs, Dr. the Mrs EVERYWHERE, and the usual assortment of people who decided to not be a henchman, Monarch, or Dr. the Mrs. The photo op had to be timed by security in order to function. 1

I believe it. There was something going on this year, it's like the humidity just killed anyone with joint issues whatsoever. If this keeps up, my next costume is going to end up being [ unironically ] Dr. Dugong just so I don't have to walk anymore.

Seriously, there are always plenty of kids floating around, especially on Saturdays when the parade happens. And plenty of the booths keep track of the ages / maturity of the kids with the parents in order to keep from them getting swag that might not be appropriate for them. The Venture Booth usually has a few things set aside for little kids like tiny bubble jars and science stickers. And this year, we would hand the daily buttons out upside-down to parents so they could opt out of not having their kid demand one.

DragonCon has cops everywhere, and they are very strict about enforcing rules concerning costumes with weapons that have to be "peacebonded". At any event where there are tens of thousands attending, you should be somewhat aware of your surroundings, especially if you have a kid, so just have a normal amount of vigilance and have fun. There are drunk idiots at night, but they don't tend to do more than shout out stupid things or puke in potted plants. That's about all I can think of because DragonCon is sort of weird as a convention because it takes place among multiple blocks of downtown Atlanta instead of being held in a convention center. For that type of setting, you'll stay safe by sticking with the herd and paying attention to where the crowds are moving to late at night.

I think people who are serious about their costuming have a good idea of how long they can look good before make-up starts rubbing off or their outfit starts falling apart. So they pick which hours to strut their stuff, and then change back into regular clothes.

I was there a few weeks ago and I was just like .... why is the traffic so retarded. I was trying to get from the Aquarium to a Hilton and I was so stressed out by the time I got to the hotel. For Dragon Con, the 'big day' for most people tends to be Saturday because a lot of them are part of the parade. Saturday is a big photo op day. For the Bunny Hutch people, Thursday night is costume night. And for any particular show with a big enough fan base, those customs are polished for whatever day the big panel is. My Saturday costume was my alternative costume. The one I really wanted to do was worn on Friday but the humidity made the spirit gum fail by evening. There were people who visited the booth who had a new costume every day.
lupin_bebop
YAY! DRAGONCON! I couldn't go this year, because I went to a BUNCH of Cons this year. I COULD post all the pictures.....also, got to meet (and drink) with the voice of Majin Buu. Dude is a straight badass. I might make an overall Con picture dump thread.....anyways. Glad you had fun. I've always wanted to come to DragonCon, but have never gotten to go. I've always seen really good cosplayers there, and because it's in the ATL, it's in my hometown. It's sad that I don't get to go to a con in my hometown. Trade off is that I get to go to plenty of cons here in the Big D.

I have arrived late as usual, but here are some boring pictures from Atlanta Supercon 2008: James Urbaniak and Doc Hammer doing a Venture Bros. Panel: Cast of Aqua Teen Hunger Force at their panel: Brian O'Halloran regaling the room with production stories: Poster I was given by [as] for "liaison services" (HELPeR): Ridiculously sharp Halo sword: Signed Xtacles promotional poster: Signed Venture Bros. Seasons 1 & 2 DVD sets: The poor 70/30 guys were shocked anyone noticed them so we got to spend a lot of time chatting and hanging out. The Xtacles wasn't out yet, but it ended up doing poorly, and [as] didn't pick the show up. I think they actually closed up shop the following year. Adam Reed had left to start making Archer, and eventually others from 70/30 would join him, including The Xtacles creator, Matt Thompson.
