CorbeauKarasu Posted April 1, 2018 Posted April 1, 2018 these days, it's hard to imagine anything shocking or scaring general movie audiences very easily. we've seen "attack of the 50 fot whatever" a hundred times and lord knows how many godzilla movies. and then there's attack on titan. so my question is, how big do you think a giant humanoid would have to be on screen in order to truly surprise people and maybe scare them a little in the pit of their stomachs?

SlappyKincaid Posted April 1, 2018 Posted April 1, 2018 I feel like in the right context, a ten foot tall guy could be pretty scary, it would need to be convincing effects and acting. A ten foot tall guy ordering a sandwich or something wouldn't be scary, but if he was smashing up cars in a parking lot, I think I would be scared and would be well within my rights to be scared. Although watching that in a movie, probably not so much.

discolé monade Posted April 1, 2018 Posted April 1, 2018 well, back around the 700's vikings were the biggest thing to giants looming over englishmen by about a foot or two. i'm not surprised by seeing people in the 6' to 7-8' range. so...i'm gonna say if only one 'giant' about the size of the 3 arm machine from 'war of the worlds' but in a grouping? probably about the size of the giants in GoT ~ that would be quite unnerving.

I'm wondering if something around that size would be sufficient. then there's the idea of altering its features to make it seem less human than human-oid, which could play a role in the effect of the final product. but then what about beings that can stride across continents...would that be better or just seem absurd? stand on the earth and be visible from space? taller than an actual mountain?

Like Kane in the movie See No Evil is a scary ass giant guy, because he's sneaking around and gruesomely murdering folks. Godzilla in the latest movie isn't scary, because he's fighting giant bugs. Godzilla wrecking Japan for waking him up is scary, though.
